Zac Tells Us Why He Pulled Out
So either Zac Efron is making a wise career decision or shooting himself in the foot.
In the Footloose, that is.
Speaking with EW, Efron said he pulled out (heehee) of the dancing remake because he didn't want to be typecast as "that musical guy," saying, "I'm sure Footloose would have been a huge challenge…but the actors that I love and the actors that work really hard in this industry are always shaking things up, trying new genres, acquiring new skill sets. That's what's always going to appeal to me: the unknown."
Instead Efron is flexing his acting chops in a flick called The Death & Life of Charlie St. Cloud in which he plays "a young man who takes a job as a cemetery caretaker where his younger brother has recently been buried. He has weekly meetings with his deceased sibling and begins a romantic relationship with a young woman believed to be missing in a sailing accident. He's not sure if she is real or an apparition."
Hmmm, that smacks of I Know Who Killed Me…and we all know how well that panned out for one Miss LiLo!

Footloose IS NOT a musical!!! It is a movie about a town where dancing is outlawed and a new student shakes things up by putting together a school dance. It isn't like Efron would bust out into song or anything. I think it would have been the perfect progression for him to show his acting chops (if he has any) while not completely straying from his fan base. Idiot!! The ONLY way it is going to work is if he can actually act and hold his own against heavy hitters.

Um sorry but this movie sounds nothing like "I know who killed me". Doing another musical wouldn't have killed his career, I mean look at Will Smith who was just in alien blockbusters in the beginning of his career.
I don't think it is Zac's best decision to pull out of Footloose. (dancing might shake the ear wax out of his ears!) Pretty boy is very limited in his acting skills so he should take a movie when he is offered it. I might actually see it now that Zac has pulled out of it. I think Chace can do a better job.

I think he's making a mistake. He'd be great in Footloose. I don't think doing 2 musicals would necessarily lead to typecasting.

Efron the Poof Pony had a goden opportunity to prove whether he had any acting chops when he was offered the chance to replace Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway in Equus. It wasn't the nude scene he was afraid of - it was the realization that people paying $100 for their theater seats would be asking for refunds after seeing him in that show!

STOOPID! I agree that movie sounds awful! so he has a lot of musicla in his resume…so what? John Travolta danced a lot in hhis begginings and he went on to have good acting carrier with different roles! oh boo hoo zack!

he is already there, he has done three highschool musical movies, and a hairspray movie and maybe another hairspray… why is he doing this? He knows how much he would love to do footloose but he is doing this because he dosent want to be that kind of actor anymore! come on zac! he has said in many interviews that he loves doing musicals, he loves the energy in them and everything! i love zac with a passion lol, but this really makes me upset
