Guy Ritchie decided to take Madonna's recent adoption denial as an opportunity to get some attention, offering the following statement:
"Madonna is a fantastic and loving mother who cares deeply about her own children, and children who may need additional help and support. I fully supported Madonna in her decision to apply for this adoption, and I am saddened that her application has been rejected. She is motivated only by being a caring parent who seeks to share some of the advantages and opportunities that her life has given her. This time it did not work out, but there will be other opportunities and I wish her well in them. She is a great mum."

Last night on TV someone said she should just give the money to the families of children in need and let them raise the children in their own country, but with the benefit of a good education that Madge's money can buy. He is James Kambewa, 24, who fled in disgrace after Mercy’s mother Mwandida, who was a 15-year-old schoolgirl at the time, fell pregnant. Mwandida died eight days after giving birth. James has never been seen in the family’s home village of Thwonde in southern Malawi since the outcry and until yesterday he had no idea that a wealthy pop star was planning to adopt Mercy, whom he has never seen.
James, who has a casual job as a night watchman, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘I am longing to hear more about Mercy. I was never allowed to see her and now I am determined to make up for that.
‘Her family was very angry with me when Mwandida became pregnant. My own relatives advised me to leave town. It was a big scandal – both of us were
in disgrace.
‘Now I hear that my little girl will be famous, and best of all I can form some bond with her at last.’
James, who lives in a one-room hut with two male friends in a poor area of the nearby city, added: ‘I need to think about what all this means. I need to try and make sense of it.’

Madonna returned to Britain tonight after ordering lawyers to 'do everything' to win her adoption battle. The singer, 50, was said to be 'devastated and shaking' at having to leave Mercy James, four, behind in Malawi.
As she touched down at Luton airport, the strain visible on her face, her Gulfstream jet was met by ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

He and Madonna did not appear to speak to each other, but Ritchie has publicly supported the adoption of Mercy.
However, the pair were said to have argued over the issue while still married, and Ritchie's father John said yesterday that his son would be 'very relieved' by the court's decision.
Officials have already returned Mercy to an orphanage, despite the appearance of a man claiming to be her biological father.
Security guard James Kambewa, 24, said he was willing to take a DNA test to prove he was Mercy's father and wants to raise the child.
If the court in Malawi accepts his paternity claim it is likely to be the final blow to Madonna's hopes of adopting the child. Mr Kambewa, who lives in a remote village 100 miles from Lilongwe, said he was told Mercy had died with her mother the birth. He told the Sunday Mirror: 'I bear no grudge against Madonna. But I am Mercy's father and I want her to stay with me… I will make it plain that my daughter will be staying in Malawi with me.'
Madonna had been told the girl was an orphan and Malawian authorities said her mother and father were dead. The girl's other relatives had consented to the adoption. The row echoes that over the adoption of David Banda, when his relatives came forward to oppose plans for him to be taken out of the country.
