get your facts right, perez. there's at least 90 dead. @phenomanon: it happened in l'aquila, middle of italy. there's so many deaths because of the old (historical) buildings. a physician warned the governement a month a go it would happen, but no one listened.

I'm from Italy, exactly from Rome. We heard the earthquake tonight at 3:30. It was horrible! The epicentre was in the region Abruzzo and the news here in Italy said that now the victims are at least 100 people. The good news is that the rescue teams are on site and every disaster area is covered. The critical situation is for the hall of residence of the university where there're 7 students trapped under the rubble and for the hospital that is compromise for the 90%!
Here in Italy all the nation is in touch with tv, internet radio to follow the development of the situation…It's so sad…

I am very saddened by this.
My family roots are from Teramo, Abruzzo, which is about an hour away from L'Aquila.

I just spoke to my relatives in Rome. They said they felt it and it was really scary!! They said the toll is probably a lot higher. They also said L'Aquila wasn't the only place hit. My heart goes out to them!

…over 90 people have died (so far)…and scientist warned people about this earthquake and to evacuate immediately, but later muzzled by the Italian government not to alarm people!!

      Sad. RIP!
One month ago, vans with loudspeakers drove around L'Aquila telling residents to evacuate their houses after Giampaolo Giuliani, a researcher at a nuclear physics institute at nearby Gran Sassow, predicted a large quake was on its way.

Mr Giuliani, who based his forecast on concentrations of radon gas around seismically active areas, was reported to police for “spreading alarm” and was forced to remove his findings from the internet, although a video interview with him remains on YouTube.
