Yay Tony Blair!
The former British Prime Minster has called for a "quiet revolution in thinking," suggesting that the Pope might not be as in touch with public opinion as he could be.
Especially when it comes to homosexuality!
Blair says, "There are many good and great things the Catholic Church does, and there are many fantastic things this Pope stands for, but I think what is interesting is that if you went into any Catholic Church, particularly a wellattended one, on any Sunday here and did a poll of the congregation, you’d be surprised at how liberal-minded people were."
Blair converted to Catholicism in 2007.
The new convert says, "When people quote the passages in Leviticus condemning homosexuality, I say to them — if you read the whole of the Old Testament and took everything that was there in a literal way, as being what God and religion is about, you’d have some pretty tough policies across the whole of the piece."
Traveling on behalf of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, which aims to promote understanding of different faiths, Blair says he believes it is time for religious leaders to reevaluate their texts as more metaphorical than literal, and come to terms with homosexuality, because that's the direction the next generation is moving in anyway.
He says, "I think there is a generational shift that is happening. If you talk to the older generation, yes, you will still get a lot of pushback, and parts of the Bible quoted, and so on. But if you look at the younger generation of evangelicals, this is increasingly for them something that they wish to be out of — at least in terms of having their position confined to being anti-gay."

Mr. Blair is to be admired for his beliefs. Of course he'll never be able to win with the Pope, who is so out of touch with the real world. I hope the next Pope will be someone who is in touch with real people. The current Pope is chasing people away from the Catholic faith with his outdated policies.

I was a Catholic, until I realized the world around me did not include the agenda of the Church. Going to an AIDS ravaged country and preaching not to use condoms- come out of the holy air and into the real world. There are not enough priests, yet gays and women are not welcome. Women are second class citizens with no hope of ever elevating to equality within the Church. Enough for me!
I did not even mention my feelings on the whole child abuse debacle (not a gay issue- a mental health issue).
People can choose to do and act the way they want but it is strange for him to convert to a faith and then try to change it. He should not have converted if he didn't believe it was right.

Clearly Mr. Blair does not understand what he has read in the Bible. Of course we aren't going to do everything that was done in the Old Testament. The OT is before Christ. You are to live by what Christ taught. Jesus taught us that some of the old ways that were mentioned in the Old Testament were incorrect. He and the apostles said in the New Testament, however, that homosexuality is wrong. Now, that doesn't mean that I go around hating other people because that too is wrong. I love gays and lesbians just as I love everyone, but that doesn't mean that it is ok.

Mr. Blair didn't convert to Catholicism in 2007 when he stepped down, he was always a Catholic but couldn't practice his religion as part of being PM. To be the British PM there are certain things which he must do which means he must be a member of the Church of England, e.g. appointing the Archbishop of Canterbury.

If public opinion is going to be the moral compass, then people should just stop pretending that they believe in God. Go off and do whatever the heck you please. The Old Testament is about making babies and filling the earth with God fearing people. It condemns homosexuality because it does not produce children.
Is a shame that we are so blind to know that AIDS and all the stupid wrong things we do now in the world have been causing problems. God did not said to have sex with animals and we did, he asked us to respect his word and we did not but now we like to live the way we think is right. All we have to do is go back to the basics of life and we will be safe.
