Her husband is rumored to be interested in the Montreal Canadiens IF they go on sale. Gillette owns them now, but has not stated he is going to sell them.

And he's Canadian, and French Canadian at that…The Montreal Canadiens are bigger than religion in Quebec. But you wouldn't know that you ignorant fatass.

i think it would be great if her husband bought the habs… i work for them myself, and i think if they were to purchase our team. i heard they want to do it with guy laliberte who is the owner of cirque du soleil… they could do great things… but i do like gilette. great guy… comments on how nice and shiny my hair is, hes so humble and sweet.

You need to get your facts straight. The team IS for sale. Bidders have until 5PM today to make their offer. The team is not owned by Gillette, but by George Gillett (no 'e', and no affiliation with the razor company).

Sheesh.

Anyway, Celine isn't the one interested in buying, it's her husband's company "Productions Feeling". They are one of over 10 making bids today, along with Molson, Quebecor, and Serge Savard.

the Montreal Canadiens is MY team and just the fact that she want to buy them kinda turns me off. Yes, she has a great career, a phenomenal voice but here in Quebec shes like a goddess to almost every woman over 35. If she were really to buy the Habs it would just be plain weird. :S I think that the super diva should stick to diva things.

She is from Montreal and the Montreal Canadiens, the team in question, is an institution for us here. EVERYONE follows the team here, it's one of the oldest in the NHL. And it's Rene Angelil who's doing business here, not her.

Makes sense–she's Canadian, born and raised in Quebec, and they're a bit rabid about the Candiens there. They want a Quebecer, or at least a Canadian, to buy the Canadiens coz they don't want to be owned by Americans anymore. What's so bad about Canadians bidding to keep a Canadian/(ien) ins sports institution in the hands of citizens? I would much rather see the team kept in the hands of citizens than have it be sold to American businessmen, like most other teams have been.
By the way, Michael Buble is now a part owner of the Vancouver Giants as well (WHL team), and most people seemed to have supported that move! Just because someone owns a hockey team doesn't mean they're actually going to be making the substantive decisions with respect to the team or the brand. It's just an investment.

Céline Dion said on French television that all the money they make is divided 50% for her and 50% for him. I wonder on much of HIS 50% ends up in Las Vegas, everybody knows he loves to gamble …… I hope he doesn't buy the Montréal Canadiens team for that reason mostly.

The Habs ARE for sale, they ARE taking bids. I know this because I know someone who is making a bid. I don't care who gets them (Leafs fan) but to be totally honest, Dion and her husband have not been in Canada for years, they don't seem to have any interest in Canadian or hockey culture, and if the team is going to reach its potential it needs a fiercely involved owner who has a passion for the game. Being a Quebecker and having a lot of disposable income does not the right owner make.

Canadians love hockey. It is all sports rolled up into one: it is their religion. You Americans may not appreciate, but little Canadian boys play hockey on outdoor rinks from the time they can walk. They play it, they dream about it, they watch it on TV and listen on radio and have RIOTS when their home-team almost wins the Stanley Cup. Hockey is as huge to Canadians as Celine Dion is to Quebec: they love her their intensely and think she is a Saint!!!

I second the comment below by kcp1967. I'm a Montreal resident and anything hockey related is the best investment you can make up here. You can make a million just selling 2 cent bobby pins for $25 if they have the Canadians logo on them. Celine as well is huge. There's a street up north named after her and a giant globe sculpture with "Celine" written on it at one of the intersections.

Together? Celine + Hockey in, specifically, Quebec = Marketing genius. Like hot guys and kittens.
