Sad news.
Grammy-nominated gospel musician David "Pop" Winans Sr. died on Wednesday at the age of 76 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Winans was known as one half of the gospel duo 'Mom and Pop Winans' with his wife, Delores. Their album "Mom & Pop Winans" was nominated for a Grammy in 1989 and Winans was nominated yet again in 1999 for his solo effort, "Uncensored."
Winans fathered a family of hit musicians; daughters BeBe and CeCe Winans recorded the hit singles "Addictive Love" and "I'll Take You There," and sons Michael, Marvin, Carvin and Ronald, known as The Winans, recorded the popular "Ain't No Need to Worry."
Since January, Winans had been living at a hospice in Nashville due to both a heart attack and stroke that struck the gospel giant in October 2008.
The Winans family released the following statement regarding their beloved's death: "The Winans family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and continued support, but would appreciate privacy at this time."

When Christian music artists Angie and Debbie Winans released their album “Bold” this month, they never expected the angry reactions.
They got a death threat, successive telephone calls from gay and lesbian groups and boycotts from churchgoers in response to “Not Natural,” a song that addresses violence, promiscuity and homosexuality.
While all of those issues are socially volatile, it’s their stance against homosexuality that is drawing fire in both Christian and secular communities.
When the sisters performed last Saturday at the annual benefit at Greater Bethany Community Church in Los Angeles, some churchgoers boycotted. The church, which usually draws 2,000 to this event, had 125 attendees. Churchgoers knew in advance “Not Natural” would be performed.
Despite the controversies, the two are sticking to their stand.
“It’s just the word of God,” said Debbie Winans, 26. “We want to point people back to Jesus and his way of doing things.”
She and Angie Winans, 29, are younger sisters of renowned contemporary Christian artists BeBe and CeCe Winans.
To Angie and Debbie, homosexuality is not God’s intent for human sexual relationships.

I don't feel that The Winans Family are homophobic, but the majority are Christians. They are a great family that has blessed the world with Gospel Music for many years. I will pray for the family, my heart felt condolences to the Winans. R.I.P. David "Pop" Winans.
