yay Im so glad you posted this (so unlike your normal music posts)! I saw this on Stereogum about a week ago and I think I've listened to it 100 times already. She should do a whole album of standards, her voice is beautiful!

Just because she has sold millions of CDs and has no radio play, that makes her a hasbeen? She released "Paper Bag," "Fast As you Can," "O Sailor" "Shadow Boxer" and more. Maybe you should have bought the CD instead of listening to the radio. God, people say the people running the music industry are killing bands, but i think its the idiot consumers out there.

I love her voice and it sounds NOTHING like other voices. Also, if you only judge an artist on what you hear on the radio without actually listening to the whole album, your critic of said artist is rather shallow and ignorant.. Sleep to Dream and Shadow Boxer are two of my most favorite songs.. if u actually listened to all of her music and stop being a slave to FM.. you would know that.. and wouldn't sound so juvenile.

I never once said radio play had anything to do w/ being a hasbeen. I said she is a hasbeen because she had 2 songs out in the late 90's and nothing since. What else do you call an "artist" that does that? If she did release something, she has a horrible promotion team.

You obviously must not have been around when even Perez was talking about people mailing apples to her record company because they got news that the album was pretty much shelved. It did pretty good on its release and she played many sold out shows. What more "promotion" does she need if she's satisfied with what she has and successful at what she does?
I got tired of her whiny gauzy voice a long time ago. I'm over it. But as always she really is a very talented artist.

So excited about this! She's an underrated, maligned genius, but at least some people get it. Every album is gold: music, lyrics, vocals, originality. She is the BEST to sing along to, too. LOVE HER. Perez's taste is all over the map, but some of his choices are great. Lady GaGa? Not so much. Fiona? Feist? Orion Experience? Hell Yeah.
