New Moon Casting News!

A new vampire has been cast!
Actor Michael Sheen (The Queen and Frost/Nixon), is set to take on the role of Aro in New Moon.
He will join the entire Twilight cast, including Robert Pattinson, as well as new cast addition Dakota Fanning.
In New Moon, Sheen will play Aro, the leader of an Italian vampire clan called the Volturi.
Director Chris Weitz confirmed Sheen’s casting and said he had ‘aggressively’ pursued the actor.
"Michael’s role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires," he said. "Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."
Sheen is also reportedly collecting a big paycheck for New Moon.

Dude, Chris Weitz just scored points with that casting choice! Sheen's the shit, he's going to make a hot ass Aros. I doubted CW in the beginning, but I think he's trying to de-velveeta cheese the franchise from that cheesy first installment attempt. I approve!
I'll hold judgment until I see his makeover as a vampire. Right now I can't see him visually filling the role of Aro, but I'll wait and see what magic the New Moon crew will preform… I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
ps–you guys, Aros isn't suppossed to be ahot ass. He's all fucked up looking with paper thin skin and is somewhat foppish and dandy like. Gracious yet with an undercurrent of malice. Sheen's the shit, he can pull this off with his eyes closed.
Michael Sheen played Lucian fairly decently in underworld but blegh! …why did they have to cast him in twilight?

Dude this cast is getting insane seriously I would think someone like him wouldn't want to be in this type of movie, but I guess its a garuanteed money train so why not….personally I think this one will be crap because the 2nd book is the worse of the series and not to mention Production was a little rushed on this which can't be a good thing at least HP took it's time on production.

You have no idea how lucky Chris was to pull that casting off…this man's last movie was nominated for best movie at the oscars and you might want to go rent Underworld 2 and 3…..that man is badass in them as a werewolf.

Michael Sheen is one of best actors around today - he commands every scene that he is in, which is why I think he will be great as Aro. Excellent choice.

Michael Sheen's an amazing actor, you should have seen him in The Queen, he was brilliant as Tony Blair. New Moon's lucky to have him on board.

Hell yes! He was terrific as the leader of the Lycans and I have faith that he'll be amazing as the head of the Volturi! I really am getting excited that New Moon might give us fans of the book much more than Twilight did.

I think he's going to be great. Everyone hated on Rob Pattinson for Edward, but once they have their make up done and wigs/hairstyle etc they look amazing.
He won't look like that so you've just got to imagine exactly what they can do with make-up.

What is going on with these casting directors? first they cast that Jamie Campbell Bower -kid for Caius and now this guy for Aro.. He looks so… NOT Aro-ish! I pitured Aro more like V in V for vendetta ;P you know..with the creepy smile and all
I GUESS THAT DOESNT SEEM BAD. I DONT KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT HIM. hopefully its good. the problem is is that chris weitz is a fantasy director and catherine hardwicke is a teen director. the movie is mostly about a teen realtionship. so if chris weitz makes it too fantasy, there will be a riot. i think both of them Should work together so it is great teen stuff but great effects too

I think he's a good fit for this character! Although when I read the books, I always picture Aro as Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Dogma, a million other things…) I thing when he's shaved and with the make up and flowing robe, he'll be perfect!

OMG, perfect casting. And it's NOT about looks with Aros–that's not what is emphasized in the book. What is emphasized in the book is that Aros is very disarming and charming–yet underneath the charm is a deadly, ruthless core. Sheen is PERFECT–he has this seemingly pleasant outer layer, but can give off the scary vibes at the same time! Chris Weitz is seriously trying to make this franchise more formidable, and I"m SO GLAD!

Since I have absolutely no clue who this man is…I'll reserve judgement until I see the movie. I've always pictured Aro a slightly older man though. Is there an unwritten rule in Twilight that you can't be changed if you are over 30? I love the series but that always bothered me.
Michael Sheen is an incredibly talented actor. I've seen quite a few of his films and he is always great to watch. He is a gifted mimic too (check out Fantabulosa!) Trust me, this guy is awesome.
