R.I.P.

Sad news.

Rocky Hill, a founding member of bearded rock giants ZZ Top passed away last Friday.

Hill was the brains behind the ZZ Top's 1983 hit Legs as well as many other songs from the legendary group's catalog.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't end there!

Dusty Hill, brother of Rocky and current guitarist for ZZ Top had cut off contact with his brother over five years due to feelings of ill will Rocky had towards Dusty's wife. The altercation eventually led to the ZZ Top guitarist disowning his brother!

After contact was diminished, Rocky began drinking heavily and fell ill with cirrhosis of the liver!!

A friend of the Hill brothers spoke to reporters in Dusty's defense: "At that point Rocky was a raging alcoholic… They hadn’t spoken until about 3 months ago when Dusty finally contacted Rocky. [Rocky] went into the hospital because he was pretty bad off."

The brothers never reunited face to face before Rocky's passing, but Dusty reportedly plans to attend his brother's memorial service tomorrow in Texas.

ZZ Top. Ah, classic rock! It doesnt get any better that true talent, confidence, and holding true to your style until the end. R.I.P Mr. Hill. Style Icon and I hope you knew it.

…life is too short for grudges…ultimately it's just a sad waste..

Was Rocky ever a member of ZZ Top??? I always thought the band consisted of Billy Gibbon (guitar) Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums). I went to Wiki and it says this: Billy invited Frank for his project, a blues-rock foursome. Needing a new bassist, Beard suggested his former band mate, Joe "Dusty" Hill, and the nascent band stayed a trio. That was in 1969….

    19. 19

ok…no one in the band died. Rocky Hill is Dusy Hill (man in center's) brother. Rocky Hill is not and never was part of ZZ Top. You need to get your info right…

    20. 20

so sad with the whole grudge thing. 'legs' was one of the best zz top songs..

Re: kate483 – Do you really think that who ever writes this blog will ever get their fact straight??? NOT!!

    22. 22

I can totally relate to this article. My oldest brother and my Dad had grudges and didn't speak for YEARS. My brother died of alcholic hepititus c in 2004 and I lost my Dad in 2007. LIFE IS TOO SHORT, PEOPLE, IF IT ISN'T RIGHT, MAKE IT RIGHT!!

    23. 23

I saw ZZ Top play in Los Angeles in 1987 and my ears rang for a week

    24. 24

Rocky Hill was not in ZZ Top!
He was the brother of Dusty Hill, who IS in the band.

    25. 25

WOW…I can't believe how many lies were just printed in this lame article. The date of the funeral is even wrong…and that's public info.

So this is how it's done?……Just make shite up?

The story is nothing but lies and it's sad that Perez has to stoop to this shite.

    26. 26

awww this is so sad, you cant hold grudges in your own family, you just dont know what will happen, then it will be too late RIP, thanks for the great music and band :(
