Some Good News For Detroit!
The auto industry may be faltering, but…
A new $146 million film and television studio is opening in one of the suburbs of Detroit.
Allen Park residents and laid-off auto workers will get "first crack" for jobs at Unity Studios Inc.'s 750,000-square-foot facility.

YAY, Detroit!
WHOOP WHOOP!!
P.S.—– I'm ready for my closeup!!
Good cause i need a job! Go jags!
HAHAHAHA..That's hilarious. I'm in the film industry. The auto-workers doing visual effects? Now that's funny. According to the movie "Roger and Me", the layed off auto workers are so lazy that Taco Bell won't even hire them. What a JOKE.
Way to steal Union work from Hollywood, Detroit! Fuck up your own industry and then steal from ours.
Good for Detroit.
Bad for LA.
Re: sonny – Re: brofoski – We have our Governor and Mayor to thank for that.
Are you kidding>?? I heard about this months ago from friends in Detroit and it was on the news, too. You so WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY behind.
I live in Michigan, soon to be moving.
Have you been here and been to Detroit.
Don't worry, the studios will be back.
No actors are going to want to live here.
The weather is crappy, the people not too bright, there is no culture, art, food, anything here.
The roads are undrivable.
For example the road leading to the Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce dealerships is so bad that if you bought one, you could not drive it home from the dealership, it would have to be flat bedded, I am not kidding.
We have a barely competent Governor and perhaps the most corrupt city government in the history of this country.
ooohhh me!
Re: Angus8 –
But the suburbs are really pretty. Lots of trees, hills, and large lots. Re: brofoski –
If China didn't steal their jobs, then they wouldn't steal yours.
P.s. those workers didn't screw it up at all. it was the ceos and headhonchos. Those workers were just doing their jobs just like you.
FINALLY!!!!! we just might get a break here in michigan, you oh so cool, cali pep's think we are hicks, i lived in l.a for a year, thought you were a bunch of rude pep's think kind that step on pep's backs to get ahead in life! our roads do suck though, and so does the weather 6 mos outta the year, the rest of the time, it's beautiful! you'll start seeing that in movies!!!! so fffffck hollywood!
This is just another way for the studios to fuck over unions, and the UAW hypocrites will line up to help them.
Re: lissalips – I live in Michigan too, and Detriot is a pit.
hillary swank just got done filling me a movie in JXN MI woop woop
I live in Allen Park, and I can't tell you how exciting it is to hear about the film studio. Allen Park is an amazing, up-and-coming city and the studio is a great addition to it. Goooo Mayor Burtka and everyone who made this deal happen. It's amazing news; Michigan and more importantly the Downriver area is ecstatic.
Re: Angus8 – Good thing you are moving. Michigan doesn't need people like you (while I do agree that the roads are insanely terrible).
Re: dannnnnnnnna:) –
That is right, you don't need people like my father and I that make multiple six figures, own half a million dollar plus properties and drive hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cars and pay tens of thousands of dollars in taxes.
You definitely don't need us.
I have had to replace 3 tires and 1 rim on my S class Benz in the last year and the state won't reimburse me for their crappy roads, but will they reduce my taxes, absolutely not.
Flint and the surrounding areas have collapsed and Oakland county is in shambles.
75% of the commercial buildings by Somerset Mall are vacant.
I am closing on my new condo in Miami Beach in a few weeks and I could not be happier.
I wouldn't say the AP is up and coming. Grew up there. BUT this is great for the city
Angus, don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out!! There is enough negativity surrounding Michigan, 1 less person like you here in Michigan is a step in the right direction!
Grab your $6,000 dollar homes while you still can!
Re: Angus8 – Angus8 - I, for one, appreciated what was clearly a well-thought, brief analysis. You sound to me like you are sad to leave, but feel you have no choice anymore.

Okay, here's a questions for anyone - isn't $146 million a kind of dinky sum when you get down to it? Are the tax breaks for studios really that good in Michigan? Enough so as to get them to abandon Toronto for a lot of the outdoor scenery work?
Why am I having trouble picturing productions packing up and moving to Detroit? Be more cost efficient to buy Detroit and then demolish it.
