"Habitat for Hamtramck is a grassroots organization with the goal of rehabilitating houses in the Hamtramck area of Detroit and then giving them to families that can help further the positive redevelopment of the area. By accepting donations from the public then redistributing the accrued funds vis-à-vis cash payments to local workers and cash purchases of the building material which can then be gifted to the jobsite, the organization can bypass bureaucratic hassles and tax impediments, speedily accomplishing tasks that may otherwise take months to complete by larger, less pragmatic organizations. The organization will use a joint account that has the name of a public official on it, and every bank statement will be made public through a website that keeps real-time updates on projects, funds, and other developments, proving to the public where all funds come from and go to."

how about those lazy welfare slugs get off their asses and get a job - why should I have to pay for them?
      -
actually, as this is in Detroit I also ask why should I have to pay for a bunch of unemployed auto workers with barely a high school education who did less than nothing to improve their job skills and make them selves employable in the real world and now cry poor mouth when their "job for life" went up in smoke?

There's nothing but dumb polocks in Hamtramck….why should anyone give them money? They can get off their pastey asses and work like everyone else.

Thankfully most people don't read the comments after these posts. All of you haters seem to love generalizing and talk a lot of shizz, and it makes it harder on ALL people. A lot of people in a lot of places need help, and this happens to be one of them. You need to find some happiness in your life hotel, and get laid. Good luck with that!

Re: hotgirl101 – Seriously? what's your beef with the Polish or oh…IDK the Arabic Population (both prevalent) in Hamtramck? They're hard working folk…but the Crack-whores (apparently like you) who move in muss it all up. Thanks for that, btw. *Proud Polack!*

I teach school in Hamtramck and it's a cool place to work. There's quite a bit of history here as well as it being a multicultural haven. We have 33 different languages spoken in our district and the city is only 2 miles square, embedded within the Detroit city limits. There is also a growing artist community here because it's in close proximity to the cultural center of Detroit and on the weekends it's one of "the" places to go clubbing. You ought to know about a place before you start bashing it

Thanks Perez! Hammie has the best Polish restaurants and bakeries.

Michigan is a wonderful place. Hamtramck has the BEST food shops!!

Thank you for posting this. Everytime I visit Michigan it's such a sad thing. Many people there are clinging to hope, but don't know how to move forward and rebuild. Groups like this help struggling families start again.

P.S. For those who think Detroit is just an automotive town with a bunch of drunk illiterate GED holders that make fat cash on the line as a UAW workers…..You are SO fucking wrong. Most of my friends have Masters of Engineering, and MBA's and are JOBLESS. We have a ton of peeps who relocate here from all over Europe for the engineering schools and job opportunities. And yes, there is a place too for folks who just want to make a decent living and work an assembly job. Don't let a few bad apples ruin your opinion of the entire Metro area. Now if you want to rag on someone, stick with Kwame or that effin' retard Debbie Conyers.

I wish i could give, but i'm barely scraping by myself. Sorry!

Re: hotel283 – YOU KNOW ABOUT TODAY BUT NOT ABOUT TOMORROW YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE YOU MIGHT BE ONE DAY AND IT COULD BE YOU, WATCH WHAT YOU SAY.

    20. 20

TO BE HONEST WITH YOU FOR PEOPLE TO TALK DOWN ABOUT ANYONE WHO NEED'S HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD REALLY THINK TWICE ABOUT WHAT THEY SAY CAUSE YOU KNOW ABOUT TODAY BUT NOT ABOUT TOMORROW YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TOLL YOUR LIFE MIGHT TAKE YOU IN. SO WATCH OUT FOR WHAT YOU SAY IT COULD BE YOU ON THAT WELFARE LINE.

    21. 21

Thanks for posting this Perez! You should come to the Big D and visit sometime.

wow. I don't know why anyone should have anything bad to say. You don't have to donate, but don't put down US auto workers and stereotype. I'm polish, and my Great-Grandma and Grandpa are from there. It's really sad to see it the way it is, and frankly I'm kind of worried whenever I go to the Polish Village for dinner. It would be nice to go to the clubs because I heard Shadow Bar is awesome. Hopefully something happens and I can visit more often from Royal Oak
