Less Than Zero Sequel To Be Released Next Spring!

Filed under: Film Flickers > Robert Downey Jr.

wenn5162883downey.jpg

Author Bret Easton Ellis has written a sequel to his 1985 drug-addled novel turned into a cult film, Less Than Zero!

The sequel is due out next May under the title Imperial Bedrooms and will visit the characters from the original story in their present-day lives.

Could the second novel mean a sequel to the film version of Less Than Zero, which starred a young Robert Downey Jr.??

"The cast is still around, so it would be really funny to see [them film a sequel]," Ellis told reporters this week. "[The film] can be either a stunt and seem really gimmicky, or it could work out. But I think it would be of interest."

Our fingers are crossed!!

    Uhhhmmm…

The movie of "Less than zero" had Robert Downey's character of Julian die at the end…

However, the book has NOTHING to do with the movie…I mean, other than the characters names that is…I mean, I read the book AFTER I saw the movie and was like…

    WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

  2. 2

So, what..? Downey is a down-on-his-luck GHOST, chasing around after his buddies that tried to rescue him in Palm Springs (a little too late) in the final scenes of the original movie? Who gives a shit about these characters they were all self-absorbed jerks, much like our HOST MARIO

  3. 3

HAVENT SEEN THE MOVIE, FRANKLY I HAVENT HEARD OF IT…BUT ROBERT WAS HOT BACK IN THE DAY…

  4. 4

Did anyone watch fur!! There was something even more sexy about him than usual..

  5. 5

Oh NO!! This is one of my favorite movies! I cant imagine how it would work..not to mention RD JR died at the end..so that means..what he would appear as a ghost?? I would see it but..nothing would compare to that movie! It was such a great flick..awsome cast and great soundtrack!!!

  6. 6

Ellis hated the film adaptation as it doesn't have a resembalence to the novel. & I haven't watched it for that reason as I don't want to see a film that even Ellis admits butchered the plot. I can't wait for the sequel though.

  7. 7

It was a great movie and as much as I loved it, I don't think I'd want to see a sequel or a "where are they now…" kinda thing. I won't say that I'm completely against it, though. ;)

  8. 8

Loved the movie and Robert is an EXCELLENT actor people! I would go see it!

  9. 9

i'm only watching if he has to suck a dick again.

  10. 10

Can't Hollywood come up with any ORIGINAL scripts anymore? Who wants another remake? Remakes are NEVER as good as the original. Ever. ♥

  16. 16

OOPs……I guess Its not a remake =] But Still, like everyone else said, how can they do a sequel when he dies? Ugh, Hollywood is so weird nowadays. Originality is dead in Hollywood though, I still stand by that.

  17. 17

Pretty stupid to think Robert Downey Jr could be in it….I mean, everyone knows his character died in the first story!

  18. 18

This was Brad Pitt's first scene in a movie. They show him tossing his hat after graduation. You can catch it on some cable stations. Funny a year earlier he
was due to graduate from a college here in our state. But he took off for Hollywood. I guess the rest they say is history.

  22. 22

Who would care, Julian died at the end. Nobody really cares about Andrew McCarthy or that girl. Maybe James Spader would be interesting.

  27. 27

Excellent novel. Movie was the worst kind of Hwood adaptation….waste of time for a sequel….

  28. 28

  31. 31

  32. 32

a sequel to the BOOK… come on people, don't blink at me, if it ever gets on film, it would be with Andrew McCarthy & Jami Gertz, and a new cover by The Bangles

  33. 33

  34. 34

WHY?? Stupid Fucks! leave it alone!!!

  36. 36

Re: iliroq – omg yea I saw fur it was so good.
It's is like one of my favourite RDJ movies!
And I know he was really sexy once they shaved his hair off.

  37. 37

    I love American Psycho

  38. 38

The original book is excellent but the movie was a sanitized piece of Hollywood shit. They toned everything way down.

  39. 39

    Re: Lala11_7

Agreed! I would love to see a remake made exactly like the book.

  40. 40

I knew about the sequel a long time ago, and can't wait.
    ————-
Re: Lala11_7 – Yeah, I saw the movie in the 80's and didn't start reading Brett Easton Ellis' books til much later, and said the same thing after reading "Less Than Zero". This is one book that I am glad they did not stick to the original story in movie version!
    ———–
I would like to see a sequel of the movie…because I like to find out what the characters are doing 20 some years later. I wouldn't even care if it were a straight-to-video release. ;)
    ———–
But that is one thing I absolutely love about BEE, a lot of his characters intertwine between his books, and you keep up with them because of that.

  41. 41

Oh Shizzle, Less than Zero was the ish back in the day!!

  42. 42

But Brett Featured characters from the origional book in his two later books. sounds like somebody just needs to sell a few books. Additionally, the movie strayed kinda far from the book so it would be tough to base a movie sequel on the new book.

  43. 43

    Downey's been there done that.

  44. 44

THIS MOVIE IS A CLASSIC OF THE 80'S SOME THINGS ARE BETTER LEFT ALONE ITS LIKE MAKING OVER THE BREAKFAST CLUB WHERE JUDD NELSON AND MOLLY RINGWALD (BENDER/ CLAIRE) GET TOGETHER AND YOU REALLY SEE THE ACTUAL HOOKING UP. I MEAN LEAVE IT ALONE THINGS LIKE THAT ARE LEFT TO THE IMAGINATION OF THE AUDIENCE. LEAVE IT ALONE.

  45. 45

    yay!

but this has nothing to do with the robert downie jr. movie of the same name.

    but yay for ellis
