Candy Spelling is reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and she's the stingiest bitch around!
The heiress to her deceased husband's fortune has just been sued by a former employee for wrongful termination.
Turns out one of Candy's maids was being cheated out of her salary each day.
According to the lawsuit filed yesterday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the former maid says she was forced by Spelling to clock out of work each day for two 10 minute breaks. But the maid wasn't getting paid for her breaks.
By law, aren't full time employees allowed/required to take a 10 minute break after working four hours? And that's a paid break too!
But not according to Candy's people, who claim they were required to give the maid breaks, though not required to pay for those breaks.
As for the maid, she obviously got fired and is now seeking unspecified damages. That's code word for a shit-load of money.
Time to pay up Candy!

I'm an ICU Nurse and I'm lucky to get 10 minutes to eat lunch in a 12 hr shift. No Breaks! The hospital cleaning ladies are constantly gone on paid breaks though. She should apply at a hospital!

I used to work for AARP at a call center. You got in 10 minutes early (required) and took 30 for lunch and two 10 minute breaks. You weren't paid for any breaks. Even though we were there 9 hours, we were paid for an 8 hour day.
The FACT is that an employer is required to ALLOW a 10 minute break for every 4 hours of work (the employee does not have to take the break if they do not wish to do so). The employer is NOT required to pay for the break. That's the law. Perez, have you never worked in the Real World?!

Tori had gotten married, then left her husband one year later to go with a married man. I understand why Mr. Spelling was worried. I'm sure Candy will leave Tori her share of the inheritance when she dies. That is how it is done when a parent is worried about leaving a huge amount of money to an irresponsible child.
Breaks aren't required by law, only lunches..if you work more than 6 hours you have to have at least a 30 minute unpaid lunch…thats the way it is in texas at least….i know california is different….but to be fair, most employers do provide their employees with paid breaks!

Cheap fuck! FYI, in New York paid 10 or 15 minute breaks are not mandatory, but are always paid at any job I've ever had. The labor law states that a 30 minute meal period every six hours is mandatory, but doesn't have to be paid and never is where ever I've worked.

Yup….in NY it's 15 mins of paid breaks every 4 hours worked for people that are on salary. Not everyone knows about these breaks so they are not taken. All people usually worry about is their 1 hour lunch breaks. If it's a private company they usually don't pay for lunch therefore you're required to work 9 hours. That's 8 hrs of work and 1 hour of lunch.
in the state of california, any employee working more than three hours gets a paid 15 min break. if that employee goes over five hours, they get a 30 minute unpaid lunch and a paid 15. anything over 7 hours and they get two paid 15's and an upaid 30. if they work over 9 hours, that unpaid 30 minutes becomes an unpaid hour break.

Perez…in the real world, employees who work for an hourly wage (not salary)…do not get paid breaks, this applies to myself and everyone I know who is currently employeed. You clock out after 4-5 hours and go on break! However, I think it has to be a 30 minute break. So part of Candy's defense is legitimate.

Nobody knows who I really am, but I can tell you I have nowhere near the money Ms. Spelling has. Yet, I gave a 50" TV to a group of Nuns. don't they get paid by the hour not by the minute? where I'm from we get paid for two 15 minutes break (morning and afternoon) plus lunch (1 hour).
Laws vary by state, but in Indiana employers are only required by law to give you at least 30 minutes for lunch during an 8 hour day. Breaks aren't required, and if you get them, employers don't have to pay you for them. Shitty, eh?

HERE'S WHAT THE CALIFORNIA DEPT. OF INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS SAYS ABOUT REST BREAKS:
"Every employer shall authorize and permit all employees to take rest periods, which insofar as practical shall be in the middle of each work period. The authorized rest period time shall be based on the total hours worked daily at the rate of ten (10) minutes net rest time per four (4) hours or major fraction thereof. However, a rest period need not be authorized for employees whose total daily work time is less than three and one-half hours (3 1/2).
Authorized rest period time shall be counted as hours worked for which there shall be no deduction from wages"
So, "no deduction from wages" means 10 min. rest breaks are PAID BY THE EMPLOYER….!!!!
Each State determines its own break laws, although Federal law may be different. Employers MUST follow whichever law (State or Fed) benefits the employee most.
