Legendary kung fu hero Jackie Chan was a panelist at the Boao Forum on Saturday in China and, boy, did the actor let the moronic comments fly!
Said Chan of the Chinese people: "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."
Oh, really now???
Nobody will find that offensive, no!
Jackie, originally from Hong Kong, also has beef with the youth of China, believing that "they like other people's things. They don't like their own things."
And the icing on the cake? "If I need to buy a TV, I'll definitely buy a Japanese TV. A Chinese TV might explode," said Chan.

The Chinese government has had a horrific track record or exporting products that are unsafe for human use. He's also Chinese and understands the culture better than a gay, web-nerd, wannabe celebrity. I would say he's in a better position to comment on the subject at hand. You should stick to the subjects that you understand: obsessing over teenage boys and brown-nosing Madonna.

I'm Chinese and I'm not offended at all. I actually somewhat agree.
I bought a Washer/Dryer that was a chinese brand. Haire…sounded German, but whatever. Anyway, it broke after a month, and to try to get a part for it took over 4 months, when I finally got the part and they came to fix it, something else broke the next time I used it. I junked it and bought a new one. The cinese made DVD player I bought started to sqeak after 1 month and after 6 months wouldn't eject the DVD, it would just keep playing the DVD unless you unplugged it, but wouldn't eject or turn off. So…um, I kinda see what he's saying about not buying a Chinese TV.

he totally knows what he's talking about. we all 'know our own,' and in this case, jackie chan knows his people. remember the tainted baby formula and pet foods? there are also the innumerable and unaccounted for bootleg "prescription" drugs that are in various countries' markets that are being sold through legitimate pharmacies and are sickening/killing people without their knowledge. no country's exempt and Jackie's speaking about his own.

Hmm.. the chinese ppl are very strange and have a quite different approach to the world as we know it. His words were probably taken out of context but there is some insight to what he said. This is no different from when Bill Cosby spoke up about black youth and how they are not following in the footsteps of those who have paved the way for their freedoms. How often are products from China recalled because they aren't safe? Remember the Mattel debacle? It was a mess! Not to mention child labor! We all want to live in our happy little world with iPods and the like, and China wants our money, so they do what they can to maintain cheap labor. And, I do know alot about China. Firstly I am Chinese (altho not from China). Secondly, I have friends and family who goes to China every month. Whatever Jackie says is 99% true. About the TV, it is definitely 100% true. Most of the stuff made in China is of poor quality.

As a Chinese person, I don't take it offensively. To be honest.. there are some crazy chinese people who don't want to follow the rules, because they think it's still china.. or they can do whatever they want because they are not in their own repressed country.. Think about it… the chinese are the worst for pirating, counterfeiting, fake goods, and fake food!! seriously… there is a need to look at quality.. and safety.. it's not all about money.. I think his frank comments are refreshing. I'm not Chinese but I also belong to a visible minority that warrants criticism for its contemporary culture, or lack thereof. NO ethnic background is perfectly admirable. Maybe the Scandinavians are pretty cool? Anyone know of any negative stereotypes about people from Denmark, Sweden, or Norway? Aside from them I can think of pleny of improvements that can be made in most cultures today. Jackie Chan is being honest and I personally think his observations are pretty accurate.
