The whole purpose of the pageant is to represent the United States. While her opinion is slightly archaic, she did not do as she was asked ( like Miss Arizona…) The point of asking questions that reflect personal ideologies is to get an appropriate response that is indicative of how the issue of gay marriage should be handled. She could have answered that question by simply stating that the people should decide the laws for the state in which they reside.
