Quote of the Day

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Re: pollyalice – I agree. Perez needs to stop using Dr. King to further his cause! He is not helping. Im on the fence on the issue of gay marriage. As a straight married female part of me thinks that marriage is for a man and woman. One the other hand, I have gay friends that I love dearly and they deserve the same rights that my husband and I have. After hearing Perez and his verbal beatdown of that poor girl NOW using Dr. King's words to further his cause…..I think Perez has gone to far!
Perez, and all other gay activitists who use Dr. King to spread their message- PLEASE STOP.
As a minister of God, Dr. King would have never EVER endorsed gay marriage or any kind of homosexual activity. It is against God's law and Dr. King would have said so. African-Americans are tired of people using our movement of equality for their own selfish needs.
So cut it out!
Re: CRABBY APPLETON – I think we could take him down just like we built him up. HIS EGO IS TO MUCH TO HANDLE!
I guess its easy for some of the assholes on this site to say negative and hurtful comments about Perez and what he believes in because they're not oppressed and not denied HUMAN rights. And for all those who think they are Dr. King's mouthpiece saying he would not approve of Perez the homosexual, maybe so but he would approve of Perez the HUMAN BEING! Dr. King was for human rights for ALL who are oppressed in a country that hypocritically says they are "free" and offer "opportunity" NOT just African-Americans and racial equality. He was a TRUE christian who cared for all HUMAN beings. I probably can't say the same for some of you hypocritical asswipes including myself. I'm not a homosexual, and my belief on homosexuals is neutral, but I am a believer that all HUMANS deserve to exercise the rights that was were created for HUMANS.
"Out of the crooked timber of humanity-nothing entirely straight can be built"–Immanuel Kant
oh, now you decided to ge all deep! please…
Ironic that you would choose a Southern Baptist as an icon. Dude, you have to know that he would condemn homosexuality in the strongest terms…
Re: Big Black Dick – LOL LOL LOL
Deep. But what about Lady GaGa? and Jade Goody…surely she has communicated to you from hell by now. That is why we are here.
I really hope you read this Perez…everytime someone does not agree with who you are as a person….you CAN NOT hold that against them. As an African American i was always taught that people would not like me just because of the color of my skin. That is what MLK meant in that quote. He was a Southern Baptist. Most Southern Baptist ministers do not support gays…period! And as far as Coretta Scott quote..she said that because their daughter is on the DL. Not everyone is going to agree with your lifestyle…you can not force that on someone…You can not make someone like you!
civil unions, and have all the rights as Hetro people have. But, "Marriage' should only be between one man and one woman. It is the fabric of our society, and it is about creating and pro-creating children together, with one man and one woman – mother and father.
Do you want pedophiles to have the "right" to marry little children? Do you want people to have the "right" to marry and sleep with a horse or a cow? Not everyone should be given the 'rights' they so desire…Civil Unions (with the same protections and rights as “marriage”) are ENOUGH for gays and lesbians. You cannot change the fabric of society that has existed for hundreds of years…just because you are gay, and just because you “want it”.
Oh my!!! This is just plain wrong. Dr King was never speaking about gay marriage when he spoke those words. For Perez to use them for his own agenda is disgusting.
he spoke a lotta sense and the quote can be applied to any fight for equality. think you americans will look back on the outlawing of gay marriage in parts of your country in 50 years time and find it just as disgusting as racial segregation
Isn't it interesting that so many of the people on hear who claim to be speaking FOR Martin Luther King Jr. are also the ones who claim to be speaking FOR Jesus as well as FOR the Founding Fathers and let's not forget the most important presumption, they're speaking FOR God! And all of this without any apparent serious biblical scholarship other than the tired "Adam and Steve" -level. They're conspicously ignoring the Coretta Scott King quotes posted earlier (oh that's right, SKAYE1971, Mrs. King MUST have not been speaking out of truth and knowledge of her husband there, because YOU know the truth!)
As for all the African-American people on here taking umbrage with the use of the quote: Really? Civil rights only had something to do with you? I'm sure the Native Americans, Latinos, Asians, Physically-Challenged, Jewish, and yes, LGBT people who helped you out in that struggle are so glad to hear that it's now been decided only one group of people are allowed to claim discrimination, suffering, and the EXCLUSIVE use of INTERPRETING the words of non-violent, peaceful leaders.
Oh, and that's right…can you show me again Jesus' words on the subject? Go ahead.
Im sick of gay people using the Black struggle to compare it to thier own. I support gay rights and gay marriage, but your struggle is not the same as the black struggle. Just like being deaf…for example, is not the same as being black.
I have a question for you douches out there! IF YOU DONT LIKE THE QUOTE OF THE DAY, THEN WHY THE F*** DO YOU COME ON HERE?
Answer me!! Dont you agree perez?
AWww, oh well. Opinions, opinions.
