Slumdog Dad Arrested!
We reported earlier today about the father of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali trying to sell his 9-year-old daughter for almost $300,00 and guess what???
He's been arrested!!!
Thank God!
Rubina's mother Khurshida learned from her oldest daughter of the "adoption" and immediately filed a complaint with Indian police.
"My elder daughter had informed me… I did not believe he would actually go through with it," said Khurshida, who left her money-grubbing husband in 2001.
Apparently Rubina's father, Rafiq Qureshi, had plans to sell his daughter to a Dubai sheikh!!
The sheikh contacted Qureshi after learning of Slumdog's Oscar wins back in February. His wife was no longer able to have children and wanted to adopt Rubina to become his own!!
Qureshi is not budging from his claim that he refused the sheikh's generous offer for the young girl! "I politely said Rubina is happy with me and wanted to leave. After this they made an offer of money in English which I did not understand," explained her father.
"Then they requested me to leave her there overnight and take her in the morning. I refused and took Rubina away with me."
Regardless, there is now said to be video of the undercover operation in which reporters met with Qureshi and expressed interest in illegally adopting the Slumdog star.

more to this story than you're reporting rez….not saying the dad aint a scumbag, but so is her mother (bio) who apparently has had no contact with the little girl in 7 yrs. then again, diff culture and rules so i cant say thats entirely her fault…really it comes down to hollywood not compensating the girl and her family the way they should have because they are poor indians not wealthy 'mericans or euros…do you think this would have happened to dakota fanning or anna pacquin after release of their pics? nope.

Isn't it kind of hypocritical that you are giving dubai hell for not letting Madonna buy a kid but your giving these ppl hell for a sheik, who is incredibly wealthy wanting to adopt this child, It is very rare in these countries for girls to be taken care of. Do I agree with her father trying to "sell" her no I don't but it does happen all the time over there and this child very well would have been better off with the sheik. This report is completely fabricated. But why is it wrong that the father thinks he wants to give up his daughter so she can have a better life. I wish someone rich person from Dubai would adopt me. Think about how much better her life would be if she was adopted by those people. If she stays where she is now, she is probably gonna runaway when she is a little older cause her father is going to pressure her to marry someone cause he can't take care of her or he is gonna want her money. I can understand that is sounds absurd to many people, that is because they live in North America, but you have to be open minded when it your dealing with someone from another culture.
