Miss Vermont was stunned by Miss California's answer to our question too!
"Everyone has the right to their own actions, but I totally disagree with Carrie," said Brooke Werner in a new interview.
"I have a very different perspective on gay marriage and I would never had said what she said."
Although Werner hails from the latest state to recognize same-sex marriage, the beauty queen revealed that she was not the only one appalled by Prejean's answer!!
"A lot of people were shocked," said Werner of the mood backstage after Miss Cali gave us her answer. "We were all giving each other those eyes, we couldn't believe it."
Neither could we!!!
And what did Miss Vermont think of the question itself?
"…I thought it was a great question, its a very hot topic right now and was totally appropriate."

This is my first comment, I felt I had to register to comment as Miss California's comment really upset and saddened me. I live in Dublin, Ireland where we are working constantly to gain equal rights, within that marriage, for gay people and to see it being taken away in California recently and then hear Miss California's comment and hear news that people support her is a really blow. It never fails to amaze me when I hear of people being so disrespectful, ignorant and discriminatory. I always felt that Ireland having been in the tight grip of the catholic church for so long would be the last country to accept gay people and their rights as equals but looking at America now I'm not so sure. She may be praying for Perez and the gay community but I am praying for her, on judgment day what does she think God will have to say to her about the pain and insult she has caused millions of people.

It's the way he's acting NOW that will cause those people who are "on the fence" about gays to run screaming from the issue because of how he's handled this whole thing. Name calling is not cool. Neither is espousing hate. Mario does not represent all gay Americans and he certainly does not represent ME in a way that I would be proud of.

Sensationalism is a part of American media culture, and ever so often a polarizing issue arises that pits the two largest U.S “Culture War” factions in immediate and hostile opposition. This past Sunday at the Miss USA Pageant that issue arose when Perez Hilton asked Miss California Carrie Prejean the following controversial question in which her response has been linked to her loss: “Vermont became the 4th state to legalize gay marriage; do you think every state should follow suit?” This would not have been an issue had it not been for the blog posted by Hilton in which he called her a B****. It is not uncommon for many women in this society to use the word bitch to describe an arrogance within one another and in those situations it is acceptable (or at least not treated in such a hostile fashion). It is only when large groups of women want to stand up and isolate someone (namely men) when they make the usage of the word B**** a major factor. All the hype being placed on this issue is ‘much ado about nothing.’

Beauty pageants should be taken with a grain of salt as they don't portray the average woman. As a woman who does NOT fit into the "Barbie" mold (6 foot tall and 250 pounds, give or take) I am as much offended by the stereotypes pageants perpetrate as I am over what Miss California said. I haven't watched a pageant in years but I remember watching as a child and teen and wondering why I didn't look like that. Now I realize THESE WOMAN are not the norm.
Remember years ago when pageants of this ilk started to lose popularity because of the unrealistic images they portrayed to young girls? Maybe you're right - this is their attempt to add "redeeming social value" to these dog & pony shows.

Let me say right up front, sin is sin in God's eyes. No sin is greater than another. The sin of homosexuality is no more, or no less a sin than murder, adultery, stealing, lying, gossiping, or gluttony. THE REASON THIS SIN IS BEING SINGLED OUT AND ADDRESSED IS BECAUSE THOSE WHO COMMIT IT ARE PROUD OF THEIR SIN AND PROMOTE IT AS AN ACCEPTABLE LIFESTYLE! People who commit adultery do NOT have parades to celebrate their sin. People who commit murder do NOT have political action committees to make murder legal. People who steal do not have high school clubs and try to teach children that stealing is acceptable behavior. Homosexuality is a SIN in the eyes of God and is something to be ashamed of, NOT proud of.
Theologically, this is not even a debatable issue. All through the Bible, from the Old Testament through the New, homosexuality is defined by God as a sin. PERIOD. God calls it an ABOMINATION! I have heard the tortured theological arguments homosexuals have made, but there is absolutely NO WAY to change the fact this act is a sin. Just because there is now a homosexual version of the Bible where they have literally changed the passages that call this act a sin, that DOES NOT change God's inspired, inerrant Word. Just because there is a fast growing homosexual denomination-the Metropolitan Community of Churches- that does NOT change the fact God calls this act a sin. THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN CHANGE THE FACT GOD CALLS HOMOSEXUALITY A SIN!!!
The two greatest lies the pro-homosexual community has put out are: 1) homosexuality is something that you are "born with"; 2) 10% or more in our society are homosexual. First, modern science has CLEARLY rejected and been unable to prove that ANYONE is "born gay." IT IS A CHOICE! PEOPLE CHOOSE TO ENGAGE IN HOMOSEXUAL BEHAVIOR! LIKE ALL SIN, ONCE YOU DO IT LONG ENOUGH, IT MAY SEEM "NATURAL," BUT IT IS STILL A CHOICE THAT YOU MAKE. You are born with black skin or white skin. Taking your pants off to have sex is a CHOICE! Also, all legitimate studies done by the non-homosexual community clearly show that less then 1% of the population EVER engage in this type of sexual sin.
Of course, anyone who dares to speak up on this issue is labeled as "intolerant" and a "homophobe." I find it amusing that this group that demands tolerance from others, is very INTOLERANT when someone opposes their views. They also use the words like "hate monger" and other names to intimidate people from speaking out against their sinful sexual choice.
The fact is, this nation has bought into and embraced the sin of homosexuality just like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah did. In Genesis 19:24,25 the Bible says, "Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah-from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities-and also the vegetation in the land." If this is how God judged these cities for their sin, what will He do to this nation???
We live in a free society. If people who have chosen to engage in homosexual activity want to have their own schools, their own churches, their own television network, they have every right to. It is about time the church wakes up and realizes that those who promote this sin are bold and are stopping at NOTHING to get their message out to the masses. THAT is why I am always talking about how the church, those who know Christ as their Savior, have got to quit preaching to the choir and start taking the hope and love of Christ to the world at large.
For crying out loud! Does anyone even CARE what some little blonde Barbie doll "thinks"? She's not a head of state (well, empty head) or even relevant in the slightest. She's just another young piece of fluff without an ounce of life experience mouthing what she's been spoon fed all her life. For those reading this who are currently fighting homosexuality, let me tell you that God has never stopped loving you, and is simply waiting for you to turn from your sin and come back to Him. We serve a God of deliverance from sin, a God of forgiveness, and a God of restoration. Millions have turned from the sin of homosexuality and found complete restoration and fulfillment in living a life according to God's plan. What He did for someone else, He can do for you! I pray today that you hear these words, and choose to find freedom from your sin today. That freedom is only a prayer away.
I have told you often that we are not due God's judgment, we are OVERDUE God's judgment! This nation has not only embraced and glorified and made mainstream the sin of homosexuality, but we also embrace all forms of sexual perversion, we practice infanticide, and we worship and bow down to every false god and idol man has dreamed up. Our only hope is to turn back to God, beg Him for forgiveness, and pray He is merciful. If we don't, why would we not expect God's wrath had judgment when the United States is far worse than Sodom ever was!

Why is this such a big deal? Little Miss Cali does not believe in gay marriage. Welcome to the real world, where not everyone is going to agree with you! She was asked her opinion, and she gave it.
