Marriage is about love. sure there are rights and laws that come with it, but when you think of marriage do you think og a union between two people who truly believe they are soulmates or just a legal document and act? Everyone is entitled to be in love and fully express it. Who are any of us to decide who does and does not deserve the right? Our country has overcome many diversity issues and this is certainly one of them that needs to be resolved. I personally hope and believe that we as a people can stop being so close-minded. Having a religious view is perfectly fine. Most of my family is christian and I even tell them that we are not in a postion to judge. You can't decide that the love between a man and a woman is any different than that between a man and a man. We have worked so hard to be a nation that accepts everyone and gives equal oppurtunities to all, why stop now?

I am down with everything. Who am I to judge anyone?? That's for God, and if God didn't agree with homosexuality, he would not have created individuality. Why would He create a person, just to condemn them?? He doesn't. We are ALL beautiful creatures of the Lord. He does not make "mistakes".
The only thing that bugs me, is that civil partners can be on eachother's insurances. I have been with my fiance for 6 YEARS, have his child, own a home together, but I can't be on his insurance!! How is that fair?? and I truly do not mean that offensively.

I believe that there should be equal rights for gay people. BUT I dont believe that churches should be forced to marry gay couples if it against their beliefs. Equal rights and seperation of church and state should go both ways. The church shouldnt be able to force the government and the government should not be able to force the state…

I think if two men love each other or two women who love each other can marry, if they want to of course. Marriage is for those who love each other, everyone. Including Gay's and Lesbian's, everyone in this world is equal.
Frankly, this whole situation makes me sick. The fact that there are still people in this world as ignorant as Little Miss Caliifornia (and the many others supporting her and her "beliefs") is disgusting. I am a straight, married woman and i have no idea why everyone in this world doesnt have the same rights to marriage I do. Someone who doesnt even beleive in God can go get married, not a civil union, at any time. And yet, these supposed Christians dont want a homosexual couple married,. Grow up people.

First let me point out that this is not a political question.
Atheists don't believe in God, and the church doesn't believe in gays and lesbians. So why would either group want to get married in a church? Let me put it in pop culture perspective: It's like how PETA doesn't believe in wearing fur. It's common sense, no matter which side you're on.
marriage is the legal, social, and spiritual commitment of two people. i am not gay, but i don't think it is my right to deny this to anyone- straight, gay, black, white, or pink. to me it's like denying interracial marriage– which wildly enough- was not fully legit here until 1967. what are you worried about? that gay marriage will somehow lessen the value of your own holy vows? or that you will be invited to a gay wedding? god forbid… and for real: this doesn't affect anyone except the stiffies needing something to get worked up about and the people being oppressed. live and let live.

How many gay vs. how many straight people do you think access this website? I'm not against gay marriage but I think this poll was kind of stupid and definitely biased. I don't think the people that view this site and participate in polls on it really represent the vast majority of Americans.

religion is the antithesis of what America is. our centralized religion is Christianity, and that's fine, except that many people push their view on us. not everyone is conservative not everyone thinks the same. "Norm" is created by society. The only reason we think "gay marriage" is "odd" is because we were taught by our generations of religious culture that only male and female relationships are considered "normal". Just because we were "raised" in a certain way doesn't mean we can't open up our eyes and try to see that there are many ways of "normal". Just like how we've overcome our gender and race differences (remember the bra burning days of the 60's? and look at the first black president!), over time, I think "gay marriage" won't be seen as "odd" Of course, it will be a hard, and long battle… I just hope it doesn't take long. That's my two cents.

First, I believe believe gays and lesbians do have the same rights, privileges, protections and responsibilities as heterosexuals. No one is sitting on the back of the bus because of their sexuality. Second, the seperation of church and state has been twisted and no longer is represented by its original intent. Lastly, yes but just don't call it marriage. Why redefine an institution that has served society well for thoudands of years for a very small minority?

I would love for Americans to all be treated equally. But the truth of the matter is, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. No one can be forced into thinking gay marriage is politically/biblically correct. People need to make these choices for themselves. I don't think it is fair that you (perez) can state your beliefs, and Miss California cannot without being bashed upon and broken down. Just a few thoughts.
