      But seriously? A question to all of you who believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman: how the hell does it hurt you if gay people marry?! How does it devalue marriage in any way?! I know a 19 year old girl who is getting married in 3 weeks to a guy she has known for a whopping total of 5 months. Anybody want to take bets on how quickly they'll be divorced? Oh yeah, she's quite the bible thumper as well. I also know a gay couple in their 30's, both established, wonderful people. After 10 years together, they still have one of the most incredibly beautiful, loving, committed relationships I've ever seen! And yet, they are not allowed by law in their state to marry. Our divorce rate devalues marriage far more than allowing two people in love and committed to eachother to give value and legality to their relationship.

      Why is it that heterosexual people completely take the institution of marriage for granted UNTIL it has to do with gay marriage? Hypocrisy isn't flattering, people. And I'm definitely very Christian, but I was blessed enough to be raised in a very liberal, loving family and church. All too often, people spend so much time scouring the Bible for the tiniest clause to launch their platform of what is essentially ignorance, that they completely forget that upon which Christianity is based: LOVE.

      In all honesty, I'm pretty torn on this matter. While Miss California has the right to answer the question as she pleases, if the question was "do you approve the slaughter of babies?" and she was all like "Why yes, i think baby-killing is a fun activity that everyone can and should try! They taste mighty delish with BBQ sauce!", would people still argue the fact that she can say whatever she wants on TV and still only be judged on 'whether the question was well thought out?'. I feel like no matter what, there is going to be a Catch-22 stuck in this problem.

      But another point, what's the point of asking contestants who are clearly only being judged on how good they look in a swimsuit rather than what their political stance on the recent liquidity crisis and so on is, politically based questions that people are going to take to seriously?? Its like giving a baby a calculator and giving it some non-linear algebra to solve.
      The two things just don't mix.

      All in all, the flaw lies within the Miss America pagent itself and the fact that people take a FACE-VALUE BEAUTY CONTEST AS SERIOUSLY AS A POLITICAL ELECTION.

      I think this whole issue was take way out of proportion. She was asked a question and answered it to the best of her ability for her state of nervousness. She knew her answer could either break or make her chance of winning and she chose to be honest to her self and thats just beautiful. I don't think she should have shimmied her way around that question like politians would have, thats just irritating. If others could live their lives in happiness by allowing gay marriage, than why not? That's my stance.
