The Alabama House has just approved a resolution by Republican Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery that "praises Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean for speaking out against gay marriage."
Does everyone in Alabama feel that way?

Hey Perez, you just have to used to the fact that not everyone agrees with you. ONE thing from reading blogs a lot of us agree on is that you are MEAN and not a gentleman. Actually, most of America feels that way. If gay marriage were put to a vote in this country it would lose! People are so concerned about being politically correct that they agree to anything in public but in the privacy of a voting booth it's a whole different story. In the year 2000 Alabama still had a law on the books that outlawed interaccial marriage. It was superceded by Federal law but in 2000 they brought it up for a vote to get rid of it and 41% of the people voted to KEEP that law on the books. So why would anybody be shocked that a state full of people who still think that blacks and whites shouldn't marry would be opposed to gay marriage. Bigotry is Bigotry.

I am ashamed of my state for even thinking of doing this. Alabama is ran by old money and old fashions. The younger generations think very differently. I am for Gay Marriage. I voted for Obama,and I beleive everyone should have Equal Rights. This is not ok. It just goes to show me how truley Red my state really is!

Wow, its unbelievable that the Alabama House would approve that. It's more understandable if they recognized her for speaking her beliefs, even though what she said IS offensive…just because you say "no offense" doesnt mean that her words arent offensive.

I was shocked by Miss California's answer and even more shocked by my states response to it.
I understand that everyone has his or her opinion.

I have a gay sister, and grew up in the entertainment business and was around a lot of gays. They never bothered me. Not at all. In fact, I preferred hanging out with them on some occasions. So….with that in mind, I say to you…using your position as a gay man, to serve on a panel of judges in a beauty contest, and posing a question that very clearly puts that person in a very unfair and awkward position was INCREDIBLY unprofessional of you, and classless. If that were my daughter up there, I would be hunting you down. She is representing a State where gay marriage was voted down, by a very large margin, so to an extent she might have felt responsible to represent her State in that fashion. Why even ASK that question? It's okay, in my opinion to be gay, and to fight for rights for your own…but when you stard to make your battle a weapon to use against other people, that is when it crosses the line. You need to re-examine your position in society and come to terms with where and when to present your case. The MISS USA contest was NOT your forum. I won't start 'hating you' just yet. I believe everyone is permitted a mulligan or two.

I live in Alabama and the laws the we have SUCKS. First of all, they won't let us have slots at my job Birmingham Racecourse KNOWING it will clear Birmingham's debt and raise money for schools cause they're closing schools left and right. Alabama is so stupid and dumb. As for Jay Love standing up for what Miss. Californa said doesn't shock me, I should've known somebody from Alabama was going to say something about the issue. I do not believe in Gay Marriage but HOWEVER I do believe in everyone should be treated the same way, gay or straight.

I consider myself an Alabamian as I was raised there for 15 years; however, I do not agree what my home state government has done. I am disappointed that Alabama would pass something that upholds discrimination against many of its own population especially considering the role it played in the civil rights movement. Alabama has taken many steps forward but it is evident that it still has a long way to go. I will always be proud of where I come from but that does not mean that I, nor many of its population, agree with what has been passed today.
What the hell is wrong with these people?? Being a Miss America is a job, and her job is to spread a message of peace and unity and represent her position in an accepting and forward thinking ROLE MODEL. Her comments were dicriminatory and inapropriate. Please people, remember not too long ago, women and people of colour did not have rights either. Our ideologies have to change with the times in order to exist cohesively and in order to achieve "world peace". Homosexulaity is a REALITY, not a sickness, not something that needs to be condemned. I am not going to speak for everyone in AL but I am from Alabama and I am proud of Miss CA. Had the roles been reversed and Perez been asked how he felt about the only marriage that is recognized is marriage that is between a man and a woman he would not have been POLITICALLY correct he would have been his usual rude self and said what he felt. We as Christians do not claim to be perfect, we all make mistakes but standing up for what we believe in is not a mistake. Miss CA lives her life for a higher purpose and a higher reward than Miss USA. Miss USA is nothing compared to the favor she has with GOD for standing up for him. God only recognizes marriage between a man and a woman and thats just how it is. We are not saying that you can't live the life you want we just believe that God has put us here on Earth for one reason and one reason only and that is to Glorify him in ALL that we do. Everything happens for a reason and God put her in the top 5 and God, not Perez gave her that question and she answered it the way she should have honest and true.
