New Kirk, Chris Pine, Reaches Out To First Captain, William Shatner

The star of the new Star Trek movie, Chris Pine, is making peace with former cast member William Shatner.
Shatner originally played the role of Captain Kirk in the Star Trek series but was denied a cameo spot in the new movie. That led Shatner to speak out publicly against the decision and rejection.
So Pine took it upon himself, perhaps after the suggestion of his PR rep, to contact the bitter Shatner and try to resolve things.
According to Pine, he says:
"I wrote William Shatner a letter and explained who I was because I heard there was bad blood between him and the studio. I said, 'I'm just an actor who happened to get a role that happened to be James T. Kirk, and I'm not trying to usurp your status or anything'. He replied, 'Thank you very much for the letter. I wish you the best of luck.' I have it on my fridge."
Awe, so heart warming and so well-played!
Wonder if Shatner will watch the new movie?

You know, I loved William Shatner and have tried respecting him, even when he was a raving alcoholic. But the more I hear and see him reacting badly to George T (Sulu) and to the whole new movie, and now to Chris Pine personally — I think to myself, "God Shatner, you're being the biggest dickhead."

And that's Shatner's loss because all of us who supported Shatner all these years are now seeing the real dick behind the man. I felt sorry when his wife died and I felt sorry that he was having medical problems but I am not going to feel sorry anymore. You have to be gracious in Hollywood because your last success may just be your last, EVER.

#2 Zippedychick is WRONG. There wasn't a cameo written in there until Nimoy stepped in to try and heal the rift by suggesting one. He turned it down afterwards just to be a total dick *(cuz when your good friend goes to bat for you, and you turn it down — it's pretty much a slap in the face).

Shatner is an alcoholic, and known to be quite a jerk in real life (not sure if you met him Perez, but I did twice - and one event Diana Ross was there- and everyone was talking about what a diva what a diva and how they hated working with them, I assumed they were speaking of Diana Ross, but it was HIM!! funny right??- up close he is always drunk and has that alcoholic pink nose with the broken capillaries around it (like a homeless guy with the brown bag)

I think that Shatner turned down the cameo for the very same reason that a lot of the hardcore Trekkies will NOT see this film — it's nothing more than a highly polished turd, and most of us feel that JJ Abrams lied to us by making promises that the new movie would fit well within Trek canon, then finally confessing that it was an alternate timeline story. I may still like Lost, but Abrams has lost my respect.
