This is much bigger then that stupid pagent bullshit, thank you for recognizing, this is a HUGE problem in this country (bullying).
I have heard this story so many times, yet this time has to have been the worst. The boy was only 11 years old and he took his own life. There needs to be something done about the amount of bullying that goes on in schools, especially towards those who are being teased for being gay. I'm sick of everyone just letting it happen. This should be the last time we see a suicide for being bullied at about being gay. There is no shame in it.
Thank you for posting this, Perez
top ten!
This is so heartbreaking. Anyone who isn't touched by this is just evil…
As a parent, this is so heart-breaking to me. Kids can be so mean, but I place the blame on the school…why didn't they try to do more? It's obvious that whatever they had tried to do did not work, and now this lil boy is gone because of it.
Thats awful. I hope the parents and sibling are able to heal.
This sort of thing makes me sick to my stomach. It angers me so that children have inherited the homophobic slurs that are used to treat others as "less". Regardless if this boy was gay or not, it makes me so angry that being gay is parallelled to being "bad", "wrong", or anything other than "normal". Who is to say what is normal? Nobody should have the power to make a child want to kill himself.
This has got to stop.
I live by stone mountain, thanks for covering this story perez.
that is just so sad i cant believe people has so much hatred that its ok to allow this to happend to a CHILD!
its people like miss cali and all her supporters who are the cause for these deaths.
im sure god lis ooking down at you all real proud
yeah right … !! he was a child , those parents of the bully kids should be held accountable to allow hate that they pushed an 11 year old to kill himself.
dont blame the children blame their family , a child only learns from his or her parents if their parents hate gays they will to.
this breaks my heart… kids can be so mean and hurtful to each other, and now especially there are so many places for them to learn that from, and learning words like gay in that manner as an insult, that really needs to stop. That poor little boy
i just read this..actually made me cry. it reminds me so much of how much i love my nephew, and if someone ever bullied him over something like this i would not be able to survive. I hope people learn from this, and i hope schools become more strict on not allowing any bullying = kids should get suspended for this typeof bullying AND schools should start actually using stories such as this to teach people about the horrible effects of bullying.
that's so sad…
this breaks my heart
This is so sad. This is another example of what happens when bigotry is passed down from generation to generation. Some people may think that you can't hate blacks, Latinos, or any person of another nationality/race; so they target what they deem as "unaceptable" which happened to be gays, lesbians, bisexual, and transgendered people.
It is heartbreaking to read that this child felt that because he was being called "gay" he had to take his own life. Gay is not a dirty word… but the way it is said to a child can be. People, please remember, if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all.
this is so incredibly sad, bullying is never right. Thank-you for bringing this to so many people's attention.
I don't want to preach, but I think this story should incite everyone to take a good look at themselves. Maybe, Perez, you may learn a thing or two as well, and the next time you think about posting something hurtful about a celebrity (miley cyrus, among others) you will phrase your gossip in a kinder way.
my thoughts and prayers to the family
this is heartbreaking. i'm not gay, but it makes me sick to think that people still do not understand the bible. gays are born that way.. give them a break. if this kid and the kid from last week (both 11yr olds committing suicide) arent proof that being gay is not a choice then i don't know what is.
Hate breeds hate!
.
This is so tragic.
.
Just today, my child told me someone in school was "no offense, gay" Where did that come from? I stopped it then and there! "So what!" I said. Their choice and that is fine. There is nothing wrong with that. "I never want to hear you use that term as a negative statement again!"
.
With a wide eyed nod, I know I made my point.
.
Bullies have to be stopped! As parents, it is our responsibility to teach tolerance.
.
I do my best to teach love and understanding.
.
I know I fail myself at times and take extreme offense to the haters here and throw it right back at them. I never said I was perfect.
.
I pray for this poor child's family. God give them strength.
Says the one who makes non-stop posts about Miss California..
Don't get me wrong, this is awful and made me nauseous, but you've been bullying Miss CA since she opened her mouth and answered that question. Bullying in EVERY form is wrong.
Thank you for posting this, perez
D':
It's so sad.
Ugh… That's so damn sad. I could have been that kid. But when I see these things happening, I can't even describe how I feel. In fact I was probably lucky I was smart and knew how to fake illness pretty well to get out of going to school on days I just couldn't handle it. I remember when I was young and liking boys and girls in the same way. I barely knew what gay was, I had never heard of bisexual. I thought I was broken and I was terrified of being gay. No one ever talked about it in my house, all the kids at school treated it like it was the most horrible thing. When I tried to tell my parents I was just told I was confused.
I got teased all the time at school for being transexual, (I didn't even know what the hell I was then. I said all the time to my parents I didn't feel like a girl and that I wanted to be a boy. My father screamed at me) I just dressed in boys clothes and all the adults just insisted I was a tomboy. No one would listen. I didn't have any friends, the boys wouldn't be friends with me because I was a girl, the girls wouldn't be friends with me because I was too much like a boy. It was hell, I did contemplate suicide, I was going to slice my stomach open. The only think that stopped me, oddly, is that I got interested in Pokemon and South Park, so I finally had something in common with everyone else. (I was into literature, classical music and old TV shows when I was young, not typical kid things) I was around that age when it got to be the worst too. No one that young should feel death is the only answer.
What irritates me though is that I really feel it all does stem back to gay marriage and equalrights. Because gays aren't seen as normal by these bigots, it puts the impression that they're lesser people. Or not people at all. Hell a lot of times those feelings are reinforced. Even if it only starts with one bigoted family it can spread to other kids who haven't heard anything about gays before. No one is teaching them it's okay. Kids see the news, they know, but if they don't see stuff like homosexuality being okay, they won't feel it is. They just absorb the negativity. So it just grows and spreads like a disease and the ones that suffer are the ones who are just being true to themselves.
This is so, so heartbreaking. People need to learn to be more accepting. We're all human beings and no one deserves to be treated like that, especially a little boy. My thoughts are with him and his family.
people have to stop. hate is wrong. social injustice is wrong. we need to uplift the marginalized, the bigoted, the disrespected, the oppressed and the disempowered. if this horrible tragedy is nothing more than a wake up call, then at least, start to think about what hate can and does do to people. an 11 year old ending his life????????????? things must change. there should be no place for prejudice; no place for homophobic bigotry. we have enough reasons to hate one another; sexual preference and or ethnicity are not good reasons. we are equals as human beings and should treat each other as such.
That is just so so sad.
This is so terribly sad, my brother is only turning ten. But i have been to his school many times and there are not such severe problems here in Canada. This is the real tragedy. There is nothing wrong with being gay, no one single thing. And yet people always find some way to attack and destroy anything remotely different.
:(
you are constantly plugging the miss california incident shut up about it please perez
I'm really glad that you posted this to bring awareness - that's one of the truly positives that come from your site, being able to provide people with awareness on issues of substance from the site's popularity on fluff/(entertaining) bullshit. This story really is heartbreaking. I really wish that someone had just made this up, that it weren't real.
BUT, I do think that maybe you are kind of using this against Miss California's answer, when she never said that she had a problem with gay people, just that she was for the old school definition (as we know it) of marriage - between only one man and one woman. I'm for gay marriage. But, I think that you are kind of straw-manning California - which she does not deserve… You lose credibility when you take things out of context and blow up like that, osito.
On the flip-side, though, I can see how her not wanting gays to have the right to marry could come off as belittling, which is similar to bullying…
awww so sad
But theres no bad kids, only bad parenting.
i agree with you ….not including the gay community as simple as miss California did shows what a dividing community can do…gay people are human..we didnt choose to be this way its just the way we are.
This is beyond sad. If you are a parent and hear anything vile come out of your child that is homophobic or racist, put your foot down.
I can't stop thinking about how horrible this is. Something really needs to be done to stop this, because of someone else's IGNORANCE and and CLOSE MINDEDNESS a boy will never get to experience some of lifes great pleasures. I really wonder what this little boys class is going through right now. THIS NEEDS TO COME TO AN END.. Ms.California needs to be asked what she thinks about this.
Re: AuberonV – Sweetie, first of all homosexuality is not ok. It's a sin. It's wrong. No child needs to be taught that is right because it's not. You're stupid to believe that it is right to be gay. Oh I get it, you're gay. No wonder you're so confused, and you're pretty pathetic too. Have a nice day.
Re: SWEETPIECE! – 20 And by choice, I do not want to infer there is a choice involved. Straight, gay, black, brown, white, yellow, whatever, a person is born that way.
.
What! people are bullyed by other people based on sexuality? no way! (sarcasm). People are bullyed for all kinds of reasons speech impediments, financial class, way people dress etc., anyone who is shocked must be living under a rock. P.S. It's strange that a celebrity blogger who uses the influence of his website to cyber bully people he doesn't agree with or for whatever reason/excuse uses hatred to tear other people down, alĂ Avril Lavigne, lilly allan, denise richards, jessica alba, jessica simpson etc.
1) Homosexuality is a choice. I do not hate gays (and in fact have a few friends who have made that choice), and I accept the fact that they made that decision, but I do not accept that it is a good or perfectly natural/moral thing.
2) Disqualifying people for any contest or position because they don't agree with homosexual marriage is discrimination, Mr. Hilton.
You claim they're discriminating against you for being gay, yet you're being hypocritical and discriminating against people who don't see things your way. So in essence, you are no better than they. Whether you agree or not, it's the truth. The truth hurts, and getting angry with me over it just proves me correct.
that is so sad
(( the principal of that school should be put in jail for not doing enough to help this poor boy
I just cried my eyes out…how terrible. I'm a teacher and I can't imagine letting this happen to anyone in my classroom.
Re: goinggreene – 38 Bully.
People really need to sit down with their kids and talk to them about the risks of bullying. I can almost guarantee that the kids that are doing this to other children, their parents are the ones who ignore the fact that their kids are terrorizing other students, and they don't bother doing anything about it. In a way they don't care, because themselves as children were bully's as well. This whole thing needs to stop, and it's a shame it's coming to a conclusion that children are killing themselves over these acts…
Re: goinggreene – wow, are you kidding me? you win for being the most ignorant loser on the site tonight. good job.
Re: rabidflee –
ya, i agree! perez has been bullying miss cali. but i guess that's ok.
This is so heartbreaking. When will we stop punishing our kids with stupid outdated religious beliefs? LOOK AT WHAT WE ARE DOING TO OUR OWN SOCIETY. Is this how we want to be remembered in the history books? I am ashamed to be apart of a generation that allows things like this to happen.
EQUAL RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE.
Just horrible, reading that made me cry. Keep on preaching you religious hypocrites….his blood among many others is on your hands.
I just posted this link along with this note on Facebook…
You know this is so heartbreaking and it takes me back to a time when I was in a very similar position. I was bullied horribly as a kid through both grammar and high school and even though I got through it, it was total hell. In fact some of you who are "friends" on facebook were either involved in it directly or watched it happen. Not posting this to point fingers … but a lot of you now have children and I hope they never have to go through anything like this. Especially when it can end so horribly. Please take the time to read this…
Bullies should be permanently expelled from schools. I remember going to the library often in elementary to hide from a bully at lunch.
HOMOPHOBIA is a HUGE problem in America. Thank you perez.
This is tragic and I wish that kid would know that once he grows up things like that can get easier and look back at you school days and laugh about how dumb things were and how closed minded people can be…I hated all school until college and I wish this child (my goodness) could have made it through or found hope in something. Bullying by children has a lot to do with mimicking parents…it starts at home and parents need to teach the kids acceptance.
Comments like that from Miss California conrtibute to HOMOPHOBIA. Thank you Perez.
This is so sad. Younger and younger kids are taking their own lives these days. The boy's poor mother must be so heartbroken. It's also sad that being called gay or queer is such an insult- calling people names like these just intensifies the prejudice towards GLBT people and cements the idea that gay people are less of a person that straight people.
Why does Perez like to label lots of postings with "Gay Gay Gay". Just part of the problem Perez, not part of the solution…..
I want to have equal rights so bad! I am ANGRY and SADDENED by what is going on in America! We are all EQUAL! If I could I would be marching day and night. Telling two people who love one another NO you can't get married is HEARTBREAKING and CRUEL!
My nephew was your poster child for gay murdered children last year. You make me so angy. Gay, gay, gay. Miss Califronia lost because of your seriously dumb ass question. You take her belief to the inth degree….just to kick her ass for your own publicity. Now, today, it's about gay children? Really….Seriously?
You are all over the place. Gay marriage is a ridiculous platform when gay children are murdered regurlarly. How about we make sure these kids live.
I think educators in CA are messing with these kids. You will see that soon. Please REMEMBER LARRY KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU are self obsorbed. I used to adore you, but you have become too full of yourself.
You want to get married? How about you remember how it was to grow up gay. You should be ashamed. I am ashamed of you. Turn it around……please. Of not, this visitor is GONE. I can't believe what you did at the pageant. If they have you back…..I'll be shocked.
the amount of homophobia in this culture is SICKENING and it needs to END!
rest in peace Jaheem Herrera. you didn't deserve anything that happened to you. i hope your in a better place now. xoxo
Marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN… if the person your "with" cannot create a baby with you, then it's wrong.
Think about to make a baby lesbian couples need a donor…. which comes from a MAN….. gay couples need a WOMAN to carry the baby.
I am proud of her for standing up for what she believes in!
Re: goinggreene –
You 'Sweetie', are a vile, disgusting sack of shit who should be the poster boy for abortion rights. There truly are no words to describe how horrible and useless you are. I'm a pacifist, but after reading the article and then your callous, imbecilic response I wouldn't have a problem torturing you to within an inch of your pathetic life.
As much as I am saddened by this story, I think you are being extremely hypocritical Perez. Aren't you the king of cyber-bullying? I believe a lot of your readers would agree judging from the comments above. I know, I know - you will probably come up with some lame excuse such as "well..the celebrities signed up for this life style" or "if they act stupid in public I am going to call them on it". Really? Jessica Alba, Avril Lavigne, Jesse Metcalfe, Joss Stone, Lilly Allen (to name a few) just ooze out obnoxiousness, don't they? And what about you consistently trying to out certain celebrities? I hope you think twice about shattering a life of another person who really did not ask for it. Bullying them does not make you the little boy from the story. It makes you equal to the kids who made him kill himself.
Re: redsx88 – Marriage is all about making babies? So should infertile couples be BANNED. Should single moms and dads be BANNED? And actually in 4 states and 10 more on the way it isn't just between a man and a woman. Whether you like it or not.
4 STATES HAVE LEGALIZED GAY RIGHTS AND 10 MORE ON THE WAY!!!
I hope I'm wrong. Did you sensor my post? Very hypocritical…..since you used my nepher last year. How about you care about the little boys and girls who are tortured and murdered, before your precious need to marry? You should be ashame, and I'm sure your are not. Wonder the outcome if you had asked Miss California about her opinion on the torture, murder and suicide rate among gay youngsters in the US. You chose to make it personal. I, for one, applaud her answer. You are the idiot here. All but your crazies see you for what you are. I dare you to post this. I know you won't.
Hypocrite. You make your living off of bullying. Somehow, I get the strange feeling you don't even read your comments section.
Re: goinggreene – You're a sad excuse for a human being.
.
You make a mockery of Christ and his message of tolerance.
.
Read Proverbs Chapter Six. Especially 6:19
the lord hates…he that soweth discord among brethren
.
Re: AuberonV –
That's terrible, thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm very glad to see you had the strength to get beyond such ignorant cruelty. You should really look into volunteering for an organisation that assists children suffering with similar issues. You never know, you could be the one who makes a difference and saves someone else's life.

Re: redsx88 – you're replying to the wrong bloody thread. This isn't about miss california. It is about the climate of hate towards homosexuality that is effecting the lives of young, innocent children.
Do you think that the kid would have been effected by the 'gay' word if the 'gay' word wasn't used as a hallmark of shame in America?
Don't be so damned shortsighted.
I see that you (your minions) didn't include either of my posts. I knew you wouldn't.
So sad. I was once one of your biggest fans. I loved what you used to be. Once you used my nephew AND YOU USED HIM, JUST LIKE YOU ARE USING THIS LITTLE BOY IN ATLANTA…..Cannot have it both ways, doll. I became suspicous of your real motive. Done. You are pathetic and too full of yourself.
Remember being a young, gay boy? Would it not be a better use of your time, talent and "celebrity" to protect these children?
Re: redsx88 –
Ahhh, you're another rocket scientist on this site. Your amazing logic is truly deep and mind boggling.
In nature, homosexuality is common among many mammals. Scientists have come to the conclusion that homosexuality among mammals is natures way of population control. But people such as yourself are probably too busy picking bits out of the bible to support your discriminatory arguments than to actually learn something of interest and importance.
FOUR STATES NOW HAVE GAY MARRIAGE AND TEN MORE ON THE WAY!!!
Re: Mr.Sense –
1) If homosexuality isn't natural, then why does it occur naturally all over the animal kingdom? Just because it doesn't result in offspring doesn't make it unnatural, only pointless in terms of the growth of the species.
1a)whether or not offspring happens as a result isn't relevant anymore. There are more people on earth then there is food to feed them, or water to hydrate them. The last thing we need is for everyone to jump on the procreation bandwagon
1b)Since we don't need people to be procreating like whoa, there is no pressing need to surpress homosexuality. The only even half-valid arguments against homosexuality are religious ones. But Church and state are meant to be separate, so those arguments are invalidated also.
2)They did not discriminate against miss California, as the position of USA is one that should be always politically correct, especially when Gay unions are recognized in four states. Miss USA doesn't represent all but four states, she represents all of them
2b)She got runner up. That's pretty damned good. If they were discriminating against her for her answer, she wouldn't have been in the top five.
How cute Perez would have a story about bullies…..maybe you should think about your actions all the way around. Good try trying to take the lime light off of yourself. There is no excuse for how rude and crude you were. It doesn't matter how many "heart warming" stories you post…..people don't forget. Furthermore, try not to forget, you are only important in your mind. People will leave you by the waste side in a second.
The Bible says that humans are made of dirt.
And that snakes and donkeys talk.
And that insects have 4 legs.
And that bats are birds.
And that the earth is flat.
And that the sun revolves around the earth.
And that Pi = 3 (rather than 3.1416…)
And that animals appeared AFTER man but BEFORE woman.
And people are using this book as a moral authority?
Using this to strip their fellow citizens of basic human rights?
There definitely needs to be more posts like this..
you have such power Perez with this website, and by posting things like this instead of who's vagina is hanging out this week, you can really spread the word and become an advocate for gay rights.
thanks perez
ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL!!!
Re: Lorna138 –
Could not agree more. Cannot have it both ways. Who the hell cares about which celebrity agrees with Perez. IMO….most are just trying to make nice with him.
Me? I wonder why he, and his friends are not more concerned about kids killing themselves. Or about kids who are murdered. PLEASE REMEMBER LARRY KING. They are babies. TIA.
Re: ObstinateBitch –
The entire post is silly…..and you know it. I'm sure you won't admit that you know it. Reality check?
Re: Beethoven –
Agree. Doubt he reads it. Someone does. For sure.
1) If homosexuality is not natural, then why does it occur naturally all over the animal kingdom?
Words hurt. Watch yourself Perez. You can damage if you want to. Is that fair? Please think about it.
you fuckin fairy trying to take the heat off yourself, even tho you are the fucking retard that directed it all on you and your homo community. Have you called out Johnny Sack yet??? man oh man would i like to see you blogging about that….lol
This story is so sad, and saddens me. My condolences go to his family.
Also. I hope all the kids, to do with this bullying live with the fucken regret for the rest of their lives, and that it gives a reality check to all those bullies out thar. ):
Bullies don't only hurt in school. Think about what you put into the world. IT MATTERS. All of us beyond grade school have a job.
Re: jayzee – Here…Here! One of these days people will focus on treating others like human beings….instead of speaking like they do. Actions speak louder than words my friend. I'm sorry, Perez, we are speaking of you. Apparently you have forgotten who you are. You're getting a bit too big for your britches. Look away from the light.
Re: Jake The Shiznit –
you twat…wtf does this have to do with 'gay rights'?? he was in fifth grade you fucking moron, he wasnt gay or normal………..he was 11 fucking years old!! the kids were picking on him, thats a sad part of our society…..the mother is sobbing and sobbing saying she didnt know what was going on, well guess what?? she goddamn should have. she says he didnt wanna talk about it, so she didnt ask. Stupid bitch was busy making a run for the border……parents need to ask no matter what the fuck they think their children want….because thats their fucking job.
i feel terrible for the kid, for the mother, not so much….peace
Well said Mario! However, do not forget it is people like Carrie Prejean whose words and homophobia contribute to the horrible bullying in schools that lead to suicide by these young children who most likely were not even gay.
Re: Office Drone – AMEN!
Re: sticky_and_sweet – you can't expect all people to abandon belief that have been ingrained in them for hundreds of years. Especially not through ridicule.
.
If they shouldn't be allowed to poke and make fun of you, then it shouldn't be alright for you to do it to them.
.
In elementary school I was made fun of because i was the only practicing catholic in grade three. On bad days i would carry my rosary to school and pray at the back of the yard for acceptance. It was a terrible time.
In high school, i was called a lesbian for the way i played defense in basketball, and that was a terrible time too.
.
Treat people the way you'd like them to treat you.
Re: sticky_and_sweet –
Kids are different. Shouldn't we be more concerned with the children? Get that under control….then marriage? I, personally, have not a care about civil marriage. Works for me. I'd state my real concern, but yall have all the talking points. Let's just say….seperation of Church and State. K? Civil marriage would be good.
Re: Lorna138 – It's called damage control for Perez. His head got bigger than his fame did! Sorry Perez, this could be the downward spiral of your career. As you can see, people are not taking your B.S. right now. Good luck!
Re: jayzee – Of course Perez cares. This is a bullying issue and a gay rights issue. This kid was TORTURED every day because the kids thought he was gay. You should be ashamed of yourself. You cannot justify hatred.
Re: goinggreene – How could you say that after reading this? You call yourself a Christian? Woooow.
thats devastating! stupid bullies, lets hang them!
Thats terrible kids can be fucked up…i guess it starts with the parents of these bullies though…or lack of parents
RIP little guy
Re: jayzee – Actually, I know it isn't silly.
Why to know why I know it isn't silly?
.
.
Because you're not telling me why it's silly, you're just saying it is because you don't like it.
.
If your going to respond to something i said, respond intelligently. Not for my sake, but for yours. You look foolish.
.
As Mr. Chester rush says in Four Rooms: 'the less a man makes declarative statements, the less apt he is to look foolish in retrospect"
Re: ObstinateBitch –
1) Homosexuality doesn't occur naturally. Just because something occurs, doesn't mean it is natural. I don't think nuclear bombs are natural despite the fact that they exist.
1a) "whether or not offspring happens as a result isn't relevant anymore" Based on your statement, it then can logically be concluded that at one point it was relevant. Therefore human will and thinking changed, not the concept itself. Humans will always be stubborn and do what is wrong. Why do you think murder and theft still exist?
1b) Homosexuality is not a means of population control. Everyone misinterprets the "separation of church and state" part. It means that the government cannot create a "state religion" or "federal religion". Brush up on your history a bit before pulling that out.
2) Because we are a Democracy, the majority opinion outweighs that of the minority. The four states are in the minority, and so Miss USA represents the US overall. Not every single individual right down to every individual belief.
2b) She got runner up because the question wasn't posed until she was in the final two.
I suggest reading up on John Locke and Thomas Hobbes. Take a Philosophy 101 course. Then your arguments might not be proven invalid.
This is just so sad and unnecessary. My sister was bullied in school, and when I think of losing her in such a tragic way, my heart breaks. It is difficult to point fingers, but I know in our case, the school administration turned the other way. By doing this, they condone bullying, empower children who bully and marginalize and alienate vulnerable children. This is an issue that transcends sexuality or perceived sexuality. This case should be of concern to anyone who has ever been bullied or had someone close to them bullied. Teachers and school administrators must take a stand. Parents must be empowered and not felt like they are outcasts.
In my experience, the school tries to blame the victim. This is not right. As if to say because your child is bullied, there is something wrong with them. School must be a safe and happy place for all children. Kids who do not fit in will get through it, find their own niche and a way to be happy. This does not need to be cut short when they feel like they will never get out of this.
