The show gets a lot of buzz but dismal ratings!

Gossip Girl delivered a distant 1.4/ 2 rating from 8-9 p.m. last night, Monday.

Translation: viewership is down 26% from one year earlier.

What can be done to save Gossip Girl??????

This season, GG started off weird, peaked early, and descended into a total WTF mess.

If they want to fix the show, they need to stop trying to make Vanessa relevant by shoving her in storylines where she has no business being.

They need to stabilize the couples: Chuck/Blair (obviously), Dan/Serena, and they desperately need to return back to the Nate/Jenny romance/friendship. They are seriously misusing Chace and Taylor's chemistry. (I still can't believe they sacrificed their storyline for Vanessa which in turn was sacrificed for Nate/Blair?!?! I guess stealing mail makes you awesome.) If they want to take all of Season 3 to build them back up, that's fine (because Nate does need to be alone for a while to find some kind of character growth)…but they need to put them in scenes together.

Also, they need to stop marginalizing Jenny's character in favor of random guest stars and Vanessa. There needs to be more group interaction and if they're gonna bring in new characters let them actually be awesome like Georgina, not total failures like Gabriel and Poppy.

The bottom line is the show needs to spend more time on nurturing characters and relationships and less time on OMFG moments. It's seriously hurting the show.

maybe they could consistently show it. i lose interest in a show that's on a couple weeks then off for a month. come on, it's not like there's another writer's strike.

Gossip Girl has lots of things working against it. First of all, its on a small station. I don't get CW where I live so I watch it online. Second of all, its target audience (teens) don't really watch TV. Even my friends who do get CW watch it online. Third of all, its gone on hiatus so often (and frequently) this season that lots of people either gave up or aren't even aware it came back on. And lastly, it has a pretty bad time slot. Its on at the same time as big network shows that GG just can't compete with (like How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Dancing With the Stars, House).

um i'm obsessed with the show it's definitely my fave show on tv right now, but it's so unpredictable as far as scheduling goes. they will have like 3 new episodes and then play repeats for the next three weeks..it's confusing and i never know when it's going to be new.

SHOW CONSECUTIVE ESPISODES. I am sooo sick of the two weeks of new episodes, then reruns, then more new….it's soooo hard to get into the routine!

i still love it… its an awesome show. i just don't typically get to watch it when it comes on… i watch it online… but not on cw.. so i guess thats not really helping ratings… do watching shows on cw still help ratings?

this is because chuck and blair are boring and annoying, serena is too good, nate hasn't got a good SL, i have no problem with Dan. Nobody cares with Jenny… Tha last episode was the woorst in this year i think.

There are SOOOO many things that they could do. First of all they could move the show to a time slot where it doesn't have to compete with HOUSE. It's quite obvious what the better show is…and I would love to not have to pick. Secondly they could stop butchering the characters that people originally fell in love with in the book.
1. Blair was more neurotic and bulimic than manipulating
2. Nate was a pot head looser not some goody goody saint boy
3. Chuck was more gay/silly than evil
4. Vanessa was a bald punk rock kind of chick
5. Jenny had CURLY HAIR AND LARGE BREASTS
6. Blair was supposed to loose her virginity to NATE
7. Jenny should have been away at boarding school at this point
I could go on and on about the "subtle" ways this show is NOTHING like the books. I have to constantly tell myself…this is a completely different show…the books are NOT the same.

I love the show…but I wish it had been more true to some of the main plot twists and character descriptions.

I can't follow this show anymore. The storyline jumps around too much. Blake Lively mumbles and I always have to turn it up because I can't understand her.
