Even MORE Progress!!!!!
Such an amazing day!!!!
The Senate in New Hampshire voted on Wednesday to legalize gay marriage.
The legislation will go into effect on January 1st, 2010, unless it is vetoed by Governor John Lynch, a Democrat.
Lynch has said publicly that he opposes same-sex marriage, but has not commented as to whether he would veto legislation legalizing gay marriage.
If Lynch declines to take any action to block the legislation, the bill will automatically pass into law. The New Hampshire House of Representatives approved the bill on March 26th.
New Hampshire would be the fifth state in the U.S. to allow same-sex marriage if the legislation is passed into law.
Hopefully Governor Lynch will do the right thing.
The people of America are speaking.
Equality for all!!!!!!

North Carolina Should Be Ashamed!

House will rejected it the same! Yeaaa
HELL YEA! EQUALITY FOR ALL MOTHERFUCKERS!
WHAT CAN WE DO TO MAKE SURE THIS BILL PASSES? ANY REPRESENTATIVES WE CAN CALL?
yaaaay
WHO CARES?! So sick of these updates!
This should have been done a long time ago!
x
this ISNT entertainment news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! next.
so if it is legalized, does that mean you will finally pay someone to marry you perez?
That's amazing the progress that's being made this year after such a set back with Prop 8
next thing we know, it will be tried to make marraige between family members legal.
mmm, hearing that makes me proud to live in new hampshire. :]
woot! this is exciting.
NAMBLA is for gay marriage.
Uhhhh say yes PLEASE…DO IT DO IT DO IT!
Wow!
.
.
.
KISSES NEW HAMPSHIRE!!!
.
.
I am going to make calls and ask him NOT to Veto it!
This is just the beginning! I am so happy and excited for everyone out there who is in love and wants to share their life with their soul mate.
it was about time
yay, still means me and GF will have to move to Iowa , Vermont or now NH.. that blows! HAHA
Perez—still waiting for your expert explanation, what's the difference between a "Civil Union" and marriage? Aren't they the exact same thing except marriage is what they call it when men and women go through the ceremony and Civil Union is when two same sex partners go through the ceremony?
For terms you might better understand Perez, when someone has anal sex versus vaginal sexual intercourse…they are both "sex" but very different.
IMO, Gay marriage isn't "wrong", its not "immoral", its none of the negative things that you assume straight people are suggesting. Its just different so why is it so wrong to give it a different name?
Perez…it's time for YOU to find a beau so you can get married!!!!
That's great
Yay!
good! that's how it should be. we all have the right to love. =]
New Hampshire needs a Miss California to lend a voice to the 70% majority
I have mixed feelings about gay marriage/unions.
*yawn* Where is the Celebrity gossip in this?
Wait until divorce, custody issues, separation of income….most people have been mocking marriage as "just a piece of paper" and people are choosing to live together instead. Here comes the drama….
Re: Pieperoni – If you were gay for one, you'd care
What you get is all the crap that comes with marriage. It doesn't last, causes drama and costs money. You make a mockery of those getting married yet you're dying for some. Look out! Take the licks!
Re: chunkaroo527 – are you retarded?
As a New Hampshirite, I'm so proud! There is no way John Lynch will veto it. He's a fan of democracy…he's a fair guy. It's only a matter of time before this is official! Mark my words…
What about bi-sexuals marrying two people?
why is it fair though, that we have to suffer and I can't get own my partners health insurance?? That our kids don't get the same rights as hetero' couples do?? We just want equality.. that is all!
YAY NH!
Re: AlexReager – Yeah, that different but equal thing worked out really well during the Jim Crow laws too. This is about FULL equality. Semantics are important.
One more sector of the population to drive up the divorce rate! Yippy Skippy!
YA NH!
If: "The people of America are speaking. " then why aren't they allowed to vote on this matter??????????
Same with Iowa. The people weren't given an oportunity to 'speak'
Just judges and legislators dictating to the people.
When 'the people' spoke TWICE in California, you didn't like the outcome.
A rabbit can call itself a duck, but that doesn't make it so.
What's next? Triads.. Polygamy..Animal love.. all getting married? Gotta include them too.
Civil Unions are in place so that everyone has the same rights under the law.
And I agree with that.
Sorry, Mario!
it's not looking good for you, perez.
There is a separation of the Church and the state that exist in the United States.Taken from President Obama,"The constitution has not defined marriage".Religions all over the world may consider only that marriage is between man and a woman but in this country, where religious freedom exists, marriage can always be redefined to accommodate the needs of the gay community.
Thank you New Hampshire Senate!
=
Gov Lynch please support marriage equality in New Hampshire.
Where's the CELEBRITY JUICE NOT FROM CONCENTRATE?
Live Free or Die! I love NH!
Re: lanibelle19 – I understand. I think its you that misunderstand. I think its just dandy to have EQUAL RIGHTS–every fucking thing your heart desires—JUST DONT CALL IT MARRIAGE. WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT HAVING 2 DIFFERENT NAMES FOR TWO DIFFERENT THINGS?
TAKE ALL THE LIFE INSURANCE MONEY, HOSPITAL VISITATION PRIVILEGES AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT. I WOULDN'T WITHHOLD A DAMN THING.
But YOU have to agree that it IS a different thing and therefore should have a different "title." The separate but equal of the 50s want's equal, just separate. That isnt what I'm suggesting so pls dont make assumptions. If gay people get all the same rights and privileges as straight people, why do you care that it's called a Civil Union and not "marriage" per se?
Gay marriage is going to happen whether you like it or not
Let them marry..it hurts no one and helps the economy.
Yes. The people of America are speaking. And they say no over and over and over. But liberal legislators go against the majority and shove their agenda down everyone's throats. The closed minded, hateful gay community will not rest until they force by threats and violence the majority to do their bidding. And all it does is turn the undecided more and more against you. Keep it up. You think it is bad now. Alienate the rest of the population with your hate, and see what happens Perez.
Re: Mikey Hunt – You cannot vote on civil rights issues. You cannot put the fate of 10 percent of the population up to the vote of 90 percent of the population. That makes NO sense
Re: buck – You mean 52 percent. Do some research.
WOO HOO!
As for you haters, you're childish and have no life. Why would you frequent a site when your only goal is to complain and spread hatred? You're obviously miserable people and I pity you!
You are an idiot PErez, you think that that's what makes a state cool and fabooooshhhh???? IDIOT! I think we need to priorize in things like mmm let's say ECONOMY!!! Tons keep on losing their jobs day by day I think that the legalization of gay marriage should be the second or third thing in everyone's agenda… let's keep our economy as our priority and take the US out of this shitty crisis!
Fattty if you think all this same sex marriage crusading is going to get you a man, you are sadly mustaken. You could always buy one of course and be his sugar daddy, but when the money runs out so will he.
YES!!!
I voted, like I've said for redefining marriage and had my husband and mother-in-law do the same. If you continue these witch trials of running around trying to find people you think are anit-gay that aren't you're hurting your cause. Let these people speak. None of them appear to be anti-gay!
Why didn't you mention Gv Rell of CT signing it into law in CT a while back too?
Pieporoni - god forbid you are forced to take in a teensy-bit of real news with your celeb gossip, huh?
Let's hope the Governor does the right thing and passes this law.
I so hope my Governor just hangs back and recognizes the majority has voted!
Re: Rationella – teensy-weensy little bit is not what Perez has been putting up on his site. It's been 4 or 5 stories a day for the past 2 weeks. It's gotten to be annoying. I'm all for civil unions, but if I wanted to read stories about furthering homosexuality, I'd visit a website designed for that. Political news and celebrity news have no place together unless the website was created for that. This one is designed for celebrity news(as evidenced by the tagline at the top of the page).
I live in New Hampshire and this is one of the few times that I'm proud of my state! I fully believe that everyone has the right to marry and I hope that Gov. Lynch does the right thing and signs this into law already!!!
Re: buck – 13 BUCK FUCK, I'm curious how you know so much about NMBLA?
Re: aaabbbccc – It does not matter anymore if you "voted" the majority should never vote on the rights of a 10 percent minority. that is not the way a democracy works.
Re: AlexReager – I think that peoples' lack of understanding of this is a HUGE problem. We learned in the civil rights movement that separate but equal is NEVER equal… in this case, it is totally NOT equal.
Civil unions are recognized in tax situations, but not other situations. It doesn't extend to situations such as hospitals, whether or not to turn off life support, upholding wills. Civil unions do NOT cover all the same things as a marriage. Therefore, they are not equal.
It is my personal opinion that this is an issue of semantics. The problem is that we have a religious word in a secular environment. We are supposed to have separation of church and state, but the religious right can't seem to detach themselves from the "religious" meaning of the word, even though it's in the context of the government. It seems to me that the correct solution here would be to have the government STOP issuing marriage licenses, and only issue domestic partnership licenses to ALL couples, and ensure that they cover the same rights that were previously covered under "marriage". Then the issue of "marriage" as a religious word goes back to the church.
Now we just have to find you a good man!!!
Civil Unions are missing 1,300 rights and protections that a traditional marriage has.
New Hampshire! Yea!
wow, you're an awful person for saying this…oh a BTW - my crazy cousins in florida did marry each other. they are about as close to bro. and sis. as you can get. and they did it legally…
=]]
I'm so proud of my state because of this!! I'm so so happy to be from NH today.
Re: dancingnut83090 – That has what to do with gay marriage?
Also, for people who say "Well what about polygamy? Slippery slope blah blah blah…."………what about polygamy? Honestly? If a man wants to have two wives, and the women are okay with it, and the arrangement works, who the hell cares? How does someone else's living arrangement or choice of significant other effect your life AT ALL? Guess what? It doesn't. Schools are not teaching "gay marriage." Being gay isn't contagious. Being a polygamist isn't contagious. You might not agree with it, but it has nothing to do with your day to day life, and EVERYONE on God's green earth has the FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Right now, the majority of states are denying people one of these fundamental rights, which is unconstitutional. When you die, and arrive at the pearly gates, is God going to welcome the people who crusaded for their fellow man to be accepted and loved, or the people who crusaded for their fellow man to be outcast and derided? Think about it.
I truely hope that Gov Lynch does make the right thing and veto the bill. I agree with what Miss California said, marriage is between a man and a woman anything otherwise is against the very fundemental basics that the Bible was written on. Genesis 2:24 "For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh."
Seriously……..Stop using a gossip site for your gay platform. Gay marriage is WRONGO!
For or against, contact Governor John Lynch. His signature will make or break this bill. If he vetoes it, it's all but dead.
I love my state for getting this far, but I am skeptical about it becoming law. At least it almost made it to the governor. If it passes, I will be extra proud of my home state.
Re: ssgmoe – While I appreciate your concern, the NH government - which was a significant influence on the US government - was not based on the whole of the Bible. There were parts of the Bible that it referred to, but under no circumstances does law in NH refer to that as the supreme word. For that reason, your suggestion is not legitimate.
Re: buffymybasset – Nope I still wouldn't care because I live in California and would never move.
dont say the people of america are speaking, because not all the people are wanting this. and you're crazy if you think every state will pass a bill that allows same sex marriage.
it's good to hear that the country is starting to pull it's head out of it's ass and step into the 21st century.
The people aren't speaking. Where's the vote? Legislators and judges are voting, the people aren't. I think every state's voters should vote on the issue.
As a resident of New Hamsphire this makes me extremely happy.
New England always shows the rest of the country how it should be done!
Alright… I personally do believe that people of all sexual preferences should be treated as equals. The reality, however, is that this country has lost the separation of "church & state" long ago. I wish people could remind themselves that this country was founded on the idea that all citizens are created equal- and many of this countries first settlers came to America due to political persecution.
Now, as far as the "Miss California issue"- she was asked a question regarding personal beliefs. Isn't she entitled to hers? Not that I agree with her opinion, but she is very entitled to it because of our wonderful rights of freedom of religion & freedom of speech!
I hope John Lynch vetoes it.
having old men sit around and vote on things isn't speaking for america.
Re: QueenHater – Luv your avatar!
Re: sticky_and_sweet – the last time i checked. no. why would i be? because i have a different opinion than you? grow up.
48% of all polls are made up ;]
YYAAYYAYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY
The people of California also spoke
"The people of America are speaking."
If the people of the state of New Hampshire want this than allow it, but the rest of America should have no say in New Hampshire's right, under the 10th amendment, to enact this law or not enact this law.
Re: AlexReager – Well for starters the republican southern taliban party fights against both,it doesnt want civil unions or marriage right,so lets not try to give the gop scum credit where they dont deserve it.
Re: Mikey Hunt – When bigoted scum like you talk about the Ca vote it was 52- 48 percent so almost half the state wants gay marriage, when you factor in that the gop led supreme court voted for gay marriage and our gop gov is for gay marriage as are our two dem senators I would say that a bare majority for bigotry deserve to lose, And I'm sorry if cancer ridden diseases like you dont like it,move to some trailer park kkk republican southern state where lots of uneducated people like you live shoot guns in your backyard inbred.
Re: BennyScrap – You dont need to comment on political posts, its really that easy, isn't it,just pass the ones up about gay rights and its that easy, jerk.
Re: Mikey Hunt – First of all moron, civil unions are in place in a few liberal ,educated upscale states, the republican fascists and evil-gelicals fight any right for gays, including just basic non-discrimination laws. So while its nice that every fcking republican asshole here says they are for civil unions,i tend not to belive them because the republlican party fights against civil unions everywhere including the cult state of utah.
hopefully it will not pass. this is a non issue. why does the gay community want to force gay marriage down everyones throat? who cares what you do in your home. its not my business. if you want to veer from the status quo, i dont have to accept it.
most of us hetero women arent out there with a sign saying "i suck dick and you have to change the laws so that everyone who doesnt suck dick accepts it!"
y r u?
Re: LizzieBorden – Back in 1620 the Pilgrims started a colony in a little place called Plymouth. A mear three years later several members of this colony moved north and formed a small colony today known as Portsmouth, NH (which is were a good portion of my family is from and still currently reside). The Pilgrims left Europe in hopes of finding RELIGIOUS freedom. One of these Pilgrims was a man named Stephen Hopkins whom I am directly related. I think that these Pilgrims have to be turning in their graves at the idea that a colony that they established is now even thinking about the legality of Gay marriage. And I understand all to well that there is a seperation of church and State but when we give up the basic family values that our country was founded on where do we stop. What is next marriage between humans and horses.
LIVE FREE OR DIE!!! Unfortunately, the state where I am raising my family, Florida, will likely never be as progressive as the state where I'm from, New Hampshire. I'm so glad that my young nieces and nephews will grow up in a place where equality for all is recognized and practiced!
fucking nice
