A new poll from The New Times and CBS News finds that 42% of Americans nationwide now say same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry. That's up nine points from last month, when 33% supported legalizing same sex marriage.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Why such a huge jump in one month????
Support for same sex marriage is now at its highest point since CBS News starting asking about it in 2004.
28% percent say same sex couples should have no legal recognition – down from 35% in March – while 25% support civil unions, but not marriage, for gay couples.
Progress. Progress. Progress.
Civil marriage is not about religion. It is about full equality under the law.
It will happen - and on a federal level. The question is not if it will happen but how soon?

Read the Constitution. Or perhaps learn how to properly interpret both it and Supreme Court jurisprudence. Just because something is considered by the Court to be a "fundamental right" does not mean that states or the federal government are required to protect it or to extend that "right" to their citizens…it must first pass a scrutizing test. Further, you will not find any of these "fundamental rights" actually enumerated in the Constitution…it is up to judicial interpretation, and the Supreme Court has the final say on what that is. So before you start citing the Constitution and the Supreme Court, take some time to learn what it actually is that they say (and not just what you would like for them to say), and stop taking things out of context.
Perhaps the die-hard conservatives have finally noticed they have the same mind-set as extremist muslims?

I think gay marriage should be legal everywhere. Who are we to tell two human beings they can't love each other? I'm not gay but I support this equality….we are too quick to judge people who are different whether they are gay, straight, tall, skinny, fat, short, black, white, etc….we need to allow people to live their lives happily.
