Dutch Festivities End In Bizarre Tragedy
Today, Thursday, the Dutch media is reporting 2 dead and dozens injured after a car inexplicably plowed through police barriers erected to allow the passage of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife, Princess Maxima.
The royal family was on their way in an open-topped bus to Het Loo palace on the Queen's Day national holiday when the car breached the barriers, sending people "flying through the air," before crashing.
A man was removed from the vehicle and sent to the hospital. Authorities first inspected the crash for explosives, and after clearing it, they sawed the top off for further investigation.
The bus was not hit and none of its passengers were injured. Authorities will not confirm the exact death toll but place it at somewhere between 2 to 4 people. As of yet, they don't know why the driver acted as he did.
The scene has caused Apeldoorn Mayor Fred de Graaf to cancel the rest of the festivities, saying, "The scare and the images that the family has seen are reason to break off the official program."

i am from the city where the accident happened and it's so bizar at first everybody was happy an partying and now it seems like nobody can laugh anymore..

I live there myself and was just planning to go into town to celebrate when I saw it happen on live television.
Everyone was devastated: we love this holiday!
The Mayor just confirmed four deaths, eight heavily injured and four others injured.
Also, the Queen was in that bus, as well as Willem-Alexander's brothers and cousins. Luckily enough, his daughters and the other children were not present.
They confirmed 4 death and 17 injured, 5 are critically injured
The driver was a 38 year old dutchman.
And he ruined Queensday not only today but also in the future.
The queen was almost crying when she was on tv :'(

April 30th is the official celebration of the Queen's birthday, so this day is pretty much about her and not about the crown prince and his wife, although they are very popupar. A big part of the royal family was sitting on that bus and the whole thing is now being treated as an attack on the royal family and the suspect has admitted that it was an deliberate attack. Really sad.

To Misscat2008, I've followed the news all day and it is actually a girl on a bike! And she has one big angel on her shoulder!
OMG! That was horrible! I'm not sure but it kinda looked like someone was on the hood when he crashed! The hood was already messed up & I watched the slow motion it looked like a person! I hope not! That is horrific! My heart goes out to everyone there & the families of the injured & the deceased! It's truly tragic & horrible & when they showed the shot of the people on the bus you could see how upset they were. SO Sad!
Fortunately, it wasn't a muslim, nor has it been linked to a terrorist act. I think it is a BIG mistake and frankly a bit frightening, to instantly, without any further information, assume that the attack has been made by a muslim. People should think before they judge.
All the news channels are saying that it has something to do with terrorism o_o
This is sooo weird, never expected this to happen in my county. One of the most awfull things i saw is a little kid from aprox 4 y/o lying on the ground.

I live near Apeldoorn and a lot of my friends were there. Queensday is always such a lovely day but today everybody I know is very sad and don't want to party anymore…. me included.

It's really terrible, the day begon so good and happy (im from holland) and when we came back from the freemarket and turned the tv on we saw it happen.
In het nl: Ik vind het echt vreselijk, de dag begon echt zo leuk, iedereen deed gezellig mee met de activiteiten. Dit was de eerste keer dat ik een heus Defilee zou gaan zien, maar helaas.

Yeah more people died. I'm Dutch so I was in a party mood today because today is the national day in the Netherlands. I was in Amsterdam and I had a great time until I heard this news. This is just horrible. I have seriously no words for this…. How can someone do this? That guy ruined this day for everyone in the Netherlands. Wow… I live on the other side of Holland and even here they stopped celebrating Queen's Day since this afternoon…
It was supposed to be a huge party with a very well known Dutch band but they decided to quit the celebration out of respect……
Amsterdam quit early as well I heard.

Apparently it might be he is this dutch dude that got revoked to see his kids and other issues.
In the Netherlands, when you are not allowed to see your kids, you get a letter saying pretty much in the name of the queen you are not allowed to see your kids.
It is also possible that he has died after the accident, there are rumors that after he has brain damage or bleeding and he migth be dead now (a fifth person just died and they wont confirm who he is)

Thanks Perez for your support. This terrible tragedy has a huge impact on my country The Netherlands. Each year we have a day off because of our Queens birthday and we celebrate in the streets, like a carnival. Today everybody saw an idiot driving his car directly into a lot of people and kill four, he wanted to hurt our Queen. It's like JFK.
It's because people nowdays can't seem to deal with their emotional distress themselves, they always have to annoy others! It turned out that this guy had severe problems regarding his loss of job and house, therefore he supposedly committed this act. All I wanted to say is: If you think your life sucks, go kill yourself, don't try nd hurt others!

The suspect is a dutch guy, that probably did it singlehandedly. Rumors say that he did this after losing his job and not being able to pay the rent. He was supposed to be evicted tomorrow. So stop bashing muslims.

But then a man in a black Sizuki Swift made a terrible decision,
by driving on on the crowd at high speed.
People were flying threw the air like puppets.
In contrast to what the media is reporting
the man who did it it wasn't a muslim at all.
He is a 38 year old dutch male.
He tried to hit the bus with the royal family in it,
but instead he hit 17 people watching that were just watching the parade.
They had no idea he was coming because the car came from behind, and as you can see in the footage ecerything happened so fast.
5 people are already dead.
3 men and 2 women.
still in the hospital are 3 children 4 women and 5 men.
As you can see on the footage there is a police officer
that narrowly could escape the car by jumping of the bike.
The police officew is in fact a woman, and not a man as the media claims.
That same woman is the one sitting in the car trying to keep the man
who did this alive !
The man who did it, is still in critical condition in the hospital.
Let's hope he makes it, so he can suffer in jail for what he did to the people that were just watching the parade and the royal family!

Although the man is a white person, this doesn't mean he is or isn't a muslim. And even if he is a muslim it doesn't mean that had anything to do with it. All this speculation is part of the problem. Investigations are still being done, so how about just waiting for information before making stuff up on our own? There is enough hate in the world without us jumping to conclusions.

It was just reported that there are now 7 people who died.
2 children are still in the hospital, but stable.
1 woman who is in critical condition, 1 woman who's condition is severe.
1 man and 2 women are stable.
Luckily 2 people were signed out of the hospital today.
