Actress Kelly McGillis - who is most notable for her role as Tom Cruise's love interest in Top Gun - is gay!
Duh!
Though rumors regarding her orientation have surrounded McGillis for years, in an interview with SheWired.com, when asked what the gender of her next partner would be, Kelly answered that her partner would "definitely be a woman. I’m done with the man thing. I did that, I need to move on in life."
But it wasn't always easy. McGillis said that learning to accept herself was "an ongoing process from the time I was probably 12. It was a long arduous journey for me. I had a lot of bad things happen to me that made me think God was punishing me for being gay. Life is a freaking journey about coming to terms with who and what you are."
And now that her kids from her two marriages have all grown up, 51-year-old Kelly said she wants to begin "a whole different phase" and return to acting, although not to the "point of losing who I really am."
We wish her the best of luck with her newfound acceptance!

It's interesting that it took her this long to "come out". Back in the late '80s when she was filming the Accused in Vancouver, she was having a fairly open relationship with her co-star, Jody Foster. I worked at the hotel they were both staying at and they didn't really hide their affection for each other. I'm kinda glad there weren't any of these gossip sites back then or I'm sure people would have felt compelled to "out" them. It's nobody's business but their own.
It's too bad she didn't feel comfortable enough to come out sooner, but I'm not gay so it's none of my business. I wish her much love and happiness in life!
