The Biblically correct Carrie Prejean appeared on Fox News last night, not to talk about her Special Olympics platform as Miss California, but in her new role as "traditional marriage" crusader.
While she's made her views on "marriage" clear, how did Miss Cali respond to pundit Greta Van Susteren when asked about civil unions????
VAN SUSTEREN: What is your thought on civil unions?
PREJEAN: My thought on civil unions? You know what, Greta? I don't have the answers to everything. I'm not running for political office. I don't have the answers to everything, you know, in the world out there.
But I think that there should be rights for people, you know, especially in California. I think that people that are homosexual should have some rights, you know, hospital rights, and things like that.
But I would like to be more educated on that, so when I do have a better answer for you, I will get back to you on that one.
But so far I just support traditional marriage, and that's my main focus.

Look, Ms. Prejean's answers are predictably about as informed as her age and her experience with this subject would warrant. Tarring and feathering her is unecessary, slower, and unproductive if you want her enlightened. She appears to be making every effort to educate herself about this topic. It's also apparent that she's on a quick learning curve. She's nowhere near dumb; and as she lost the crown, she now probably needs to appear on T.V. when asked, because she's undoubtedly attempting to build an alternate career for herself. I believe she'll inevitably come to more just conclusions as most do when enough proper information goes into her head. She is a product of her upbringing and surroundings, as is everyone else. Communicate enough, and people get it. Communicate to and with people in a positive way, and it happens quickly.

As both a lesbian and an avid Perez fan, this might sound odd, but I say let her have her opinion. She is clearly far from articulate, but she has her convictions. I am happy for all the states passing gay marriage laws (including mine!), but I also believe states can have the right to choose. She isn't running for office, she answered a question in a beauty pageant (are we really expecting geniuses here?), stated her opinion (based on gross misinterpretations of biblical text), and expected to go about her day. It cost her the win, made her a star, but is ultimately now the only thing she will ever be known for. I don't want someone telling me I couldn't speak in favor of gay marriage, so I can't tell her not to speak against it. To be honest, I may be the minority, but I accept civil unions as long as they give me the rights I deserve. Of course I want gay marriage to pass, and it will in time, but I see no point in pushing people beyond their limits so quickly. Give my my rights and you can keep the word marriage if you want it so badly. Let her have an opinion, even if it isn't yours. At least this statement proves she wasn't trying to be the moral authority and that she does recognize the need for equality, even if we achieve it first through the term "civil union".
