Doing It For His Brother

"I couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now," an emotional David Cook told a crowd of supporters at the Race For Hope in D.C.

Just 24 hours earlier, the American Idol winner's older brother, Adam, passed away from a brain tumor, the very same thing they were raising money for yesterday.

Watch David's emotional speech (above).

Our thoughts are with him and his family!

Aww. Love you David. It's amazing he was there to support the cause the day after he lost his brother. I guess by raising awareness something good comes out of it.

So sad. He's such a great person for doing this so soon after he lost his brother. He's so awesome. I'm praying for him and his family.

Besides his big ole beautiful voice, David Cook's heart is the thing we fell for. I'm not a bit surprised that, in the wake of his brother's death, he opted to carry on the fight instead of retreating with his family. He sees the big picture and feels for other's suffering as well as his families. His momma raised him right.

my thought and prayer are with the entire Cook family. I cried watching the video. David shows his integrity as a wonderful young man that supports a good cause. Bless him in his time of need.

Class act, good kharma. So sad to lose a loved one, especially so young.

David Cook is a class act. no lie.

The brother is in a better place… David is not the only one to lost member of the family.

David Cook is one of the kindest and most sincere people I have ever met. He worked ridiculously hard before even appearing on idol to become a professional musician, and now that he has made it, he constantly talks about how important it is for him to be able to use his "celebrity" to make a difference for causes he supports (like the Race for Hope). This video shows just how clearly, the man knows how to walk the walk…

I'll be praying for you David!

So sad…he was pretty funny at first, actually…good guy. :)

That was heartbreaking, but at the same time it's actually beautiful that he showed up there and run for the cause, giving hope to those still fighting.

I'm sure his brother would be proud of him. Very nice of David to do that.

Wow. Kudos to David Cook for working so tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for such an important cause, even in the shadow of such a personal loss. Since he first appeared on Idol, he has always come across like a genuinely great guy, and it's wonderful to see that instant fame and money has not changed his commitment to the things he believes in. Talk about an American Idol….

Wow. How wonderful that he would be there! I will definitely be praying for his family though. Rough times. But being there had to be, in a way, cathardic for him. To continue to fight the very cancer that took his brother. Class act, man.

that's wonderful. you can tell what a loving and gentle spirit he has. i'm sure his brother is proud of him.

david is an incredible man and i love how much of his life he has devoted to this cause. i'm so very sad for him and his family, but wish them all strong resolve and that they keep giving to this fight. this had to have been so difficult for him, but he put on a strong face and was still so gracious to everyone there and his fans. kudos to him for being as remarkable as he is.
