Access Hollywood spoke with the potential new Miss California and Tami said that "I would be honored to represent the state of California if they need me for my responsibilities as first runner-up."
Ever the diplomat, Tami said that she "commends" Prejean for "taking a stance in something she believes in," but that "the problem is that it’s not just about what she believes, she has signed on for a position as Miss California and she cannot represent the entire state based upon her own beliefs. She can go for that cause as Carrie, but not as Miss California."
When the inevitable gay marriage question came up, Tami said "I would think let the people of each state decide and let the laws be made on that sense," but also added that "I’m just a simple beauty queen."

Fifty-four percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday say marriages between gay or lesbian couples should not be recognized as valid, with 44 percent suggesting they should be considered legal.
But among those 18 to 34 years old, 58 percent said same-sex marriages should be legal. That number drops to 42 percent among respondents aged 35 to 49, and to 41 percent for those aged 50 to 64. Only 24 percent of Americans 65 and older support recognizing same-sex marriages, according to the poll.

It absolutely breaks my heart to live in a society that discriminates against verbalizing what you belief in when it contradicts what has become the new fad and glorified way of thinking. The fact of the matter is the issue of gay marriage, just like any controversial issue, may cause a heated debate where different views and opinions may arise. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, warranted that these beliefs do not discriminate on a persons race, etc. For example, there are several different religions in this world that encompass many opposing beliefs, true humbleness lies in individuals who can respect and accept conflicting views from their own. In comparison, opposing view points on gay marriage are comparable to that of abortion and religious debates which will never have agreeable ends and will always have opposing beliefs.. Many would like to say the gay marriage debate is discriminating against gays but in reality the issue is at the heart of the definition of marriage rather than sexual orientation. Marriage has been a fundamental institution in society for centuries and in a traditional sense has been primarily sacred for religious and spiritual commitment. Marriage has therefore been separate from ,civil union and legal bonds, and more of a sacrament in the church.
By all means, gay couples should be entitled to the same rights and benefits of a heterosexual couple but to impose ideas on religious institutions that will change centuries of traditions and beliefs is attacking the autonomy of the church. Just like many will say not providing benefits to a homosexual partner is unjust so is expecting to force a priest who has devoted his life in believing the teachings of a religion that believes the sacrament of marriage is consecrated between a man and a woman. As society changes, it should grow an open mind to change but should never allow itself to deteriorate traditions and practices that have been in place for decades. As we become a fast pace selfish society, we forget the real problems that plaque our world (such as violence, starvation,war) and focus and devote time into trivial issues (ex-Has brad pitt cheated on angie) that have no bearing on making our world a better place. Instead, we move further away from building a world founded on faith and peace. But then again, this is just all my opinion and nothing more and nothing less AND I think I was more than entitled to state it… just like Perez may voice his very opinionated and offensive ideas.
I believe you should stand up for what you believe is right and wrong as long as it has moral fiber to back it up.
