Pageant People Say Miss Cali Should "Give Up The Crown"
Carrie Prejean has been busy.
Too busy to even involve herself with projects such as a poignant PSA California state pageant officials put together on the beauty of their state. When asked to appear, her rep replied that she had a "prior personal commitment otherwise she would have been glad to participate."
While talks about dethroning Prejean are still in the works, the state pageant officials think it might be better for her to just give up her title, especially because of her new activities.
In a new interview, state pageant director Keith Lewis commented:
"Carrie is still Miss California USA, but right now she is not acting in the capacity of Miss California USA. She is acting as Carrie Prejean and working on things that are important to Carrie Prejean."
Even other beauty queens are suggesting she resign:
"I think it's awesome that she’s found something that she’s very passionate about and found this voice, but if she wants to pursue that and emphasize those opinions she should do it as Carrie not as Miss California so therefore I do think she should step down," Miss USA 2004 Shandi Finnessey said.
Clearly, she isn't taking the hint.

On Tuesday's "Today" show, Al Roker asked Kristen Dalton, this year's crowned Miss USA, how she would have answered the controversial question posed to runner-up Miss North Carolina Carrie Prejean. Dalton responded with a seemingly pro-gay marriage stance. Miss California says she stands by her anti-gay-marriage comments even if they may have cost her the Miss USA crown.
Hilton, who also appeared on the "Today" show with the beauty queens, said his question was relevant and that Prejean should have "left her politics and her religion out because Miss USA represents all Americans." Cube is wondering… if you want Miss USA to leave her politics at home, than why ask her a hot-button political questions? Cube is also wondering if he asked Miss California the question because he thought he would get the response he wanted… is he just angry because he feels burnt?
This is ridiculous, she is Ms. California, nothing she say or does will stop her from being Ms. California, she won that stupid pageant and she deserves that crown! I'm sick of political correctness!

When you win a pageant like that, you are under a lot of restrictions and demands. I don't think her speaking her mind during the pageant was a big deal, her joining up with the nom group is - I said this elsewhere too but I don't see how anyone that has seen their storm is coming ad could think that it was remotely based on rational objections to gay marriage and in general becoming a spokesperson during her reign is something that would be problematic maybe. The slutty photos are iffy too, but they have overlooked those in the past. But all of it combined just might be too much of a PR nightmare.

She is being asked to do it because HER beliefs are not supposed to be what the role of Ms. California is all about. Do you remember any other pageant winner taking on a controversial political/religious issue and using their public title to promote it? No, because it violates the contract she signed with the pageant and it is just plain inappropriate. She can believe what she wants. She can't use her non-denominational, non-political crown to promote her personal religious/political beliefs. She represents the state of California right now, not 'Carrie Prejean and her church.' However now I think she crossed the line and has given up her duties as Miss California in favor of being a spokesperson for groups who are against gays. Her contract does state that she can not make ANY public apperances without permission and she broke that rule. I don't give rat's ass about nude photos - I think it's a dumb rule and her business. But again when she ran she answered a question that she has never poised nude or partially nude and signed her name. It seems she doesn't like to honor contracts and her signature means nada. I think she should lose her crown not because of her answer, but that she doesn't respect the rules and has broken most of them.
