Perez, President Obama made his sentiments very clear numerous times during the election. If I could link I would in particular to his interview with Rick Warren. I'm not saying his stand is right or wrong, but his message was crystal clear and he runs the risk of appearing disingenuous and dishonest if he should change his mind at this juncture. He will only do this when it is politically safe and given the current climate supporting the opposition to same sex marriage, he will not change his opposition.

Uh … "heat"?? what heat? besides, he's said explicitly that marriage should be between a man and women (whether or not he believes that or said it to quiet christian anti-obama sentiment is another issue). he can't go back on it now because everyone, CNN included will dig up the footage. besides, not only does he have more impt issues to deal with, but I guarantee you that FNC and other conservative outlets will be VERY loud (much louder than gay rights activists) with their "obama is a muslim terrorist" comments again if he says anything against common christian beliefs. that's not a hit in public image he can take right now.

the problem with this issue, Perez, is that if Barack openly advocates for same-sex marriage, then he's going to upset one half of the population. If he does nothing or opposes, then he will upset the other half. As a president, I think he's doing a great job handling this situation. Obama is no different that any other politician, he won't do anything to jepoardize re-election and numbers wise, gays are a small minority, meaning he will pay lip service because wealthy ones donate etc but ultimately not enough to really matter. You're barking up the wrong tree federally anyway. Focus on specific states, a few at a time, and you could steamroll the issue later over a 10 year period probably. Besides, the actual number of people with strong views on this topic is very low. Most of us don't care one way or another, and he knows it.
