Celebs Speak Out About Prop 8
Opinions were meant to be voiced and many female celebrities voiced their strong opinions concerning the issue of Prop 8 at the recent L.A Gay & Lesbian Center’s "An Evening With Women" celebration in Beverly Hills.
Cybill Shepard was quoted speaking out against Catholic and Mormons, stating that they had a big hand in the law being passed.
"Most of the money came from Utah, it’s very unfortunate," she says.
Shepard, a self procalimed hybrid of faith and values, continued on to speak about the ineqaulity that truly faces those with different rights:
"What is the most recent excuse to deny people rights under the law? To treat them as less than human and once you get that kind of right thinking you realize how important it is to stand up for the gay and lesbian kids who are at greater risk because they don't have community support and sometimes their parents kick them out. Particularly in L.A we have more runaways then anywhere in the world."
Other celebrities contributed their opinions. While Shepard stands behind the efforts of our current president, Sharon Osbourne blames the former for the passing of Prop 8. "Bush, blame everything on Bush," she said.
But perhaps it was the words of actress Jane Lynch, who really put in pespective the real problem with this important issue.
"I don’t blame. People voted with their own hearts and a lot of people are afraid of it because they've been told to be afraid of it and that’s too bad. I wish they would think for themselves and not do what their Church tells them to do. Alot of people use the church as an excuse, and I don't like it and I don't buy it."

I'm president of the Gay-Straight Alliance in my high school. I clearly don't support Prop 8, and on that note, I disagree with Prejean's ideals. However, Perez, I also highly disagree with your attitude toward her ideals. Giving the gay community a bad rap with name calling and a scandalous controversy only undermines the progress of the gay agenda.
Anyone who hinders the gay agenda greatly upsets me. And yet, Perez is posting yet another blog entry on "promoting" the gay agenda with supporting 'No on Prop 8'.

Gay marriage has not beed discussed until the recent past because science made it possible for homosexuals to be in a loving relationship and bear a child–that is not the couples biological child. Marriage came about because a man and a woman eons ago could produce a child thus a family. We're in new horizons because of science. There are at least two types of loving relationships, heterosexual and homosexual. They can have EQUAL rights without belonging to the exact same institution people. Boys Scout and Girl Scout are different institutions with equal rights. Simple.

Being married is NOT THE ONLY WAY to have EQUAL rights. Study what it is you're saying. Civil unions can have rights EQUAL to marriage and alread do some places. No two people, besides a man and a woman, without doctors or fertility or man made instruments can NATURALLY create a baby like a man and a woman can. Period. If you want to get your point across it's best not to use people that have lawsuits against them for assault and battery. It's just not wise. Also, if they're studied on the issue and don't use words like "hate" randomly to try to bolster their case. Hate isn't used in return when saying you want to redefine something someone else has.

Women are petitioning on bias to be part of men's leagues (though men can't be part of women's), gays (despite huge financial undertaking, while complaining about how much the government spends) wanting in the military, people demanding from private business entities the same rights as a federal employee (forcing business owners to either shut down altogether, and all this to be "equal". Now this is a better depiction of how one can affect change and hopefully disspell stereotypes. After hearing all of the media reports suggesting how violence was erupting at many of these protests, I was a bit fearful to even show up to show support. Again, the message was lost amidst the chaos. However, I showed my support for tolerance at the voting booths and will continue to do so. We all have the free will to identify a suitable partner for ourselves, here in America.

What is a right is "life". Why is it that an unborn child has United States citizenship rights if his mother is an American and he is then born on foreign soil, but he doesn't get those fundamental rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" because he is not considered a person? Explain THAT one.

I feel it is very unfortunate the way this whole debate has played out, with name calling and hateful comments from both sides. As a gay man, I do not agree with the way Perez handled himself, or the way he attacked Carrie Prejean with hateful comments, and it saddens me that he is seen as a spokesperson for gay people. But what is interesting is that this situation has opened up an new can of bigotry and hatred from both sides, and has only served as a reminder of the misinformation and scare tactics used when debating this topic. I understand if you have a different opinion to me, and I'm always open to hearing it and understanding it. I personally choose to live my life the best way I can, to accept all points of views, and my partner and I try to live a life of example. We are honest, caring, charitable individuals, and we are accepted by many people, whether they be straight, christian, whatever, because they have come to know us as moral, upstanding human beings. I work as a contractor, and work for many married, christian conservatives. They appreciate who I am, and treat me with respect and many of them believe that I should be able to be married to my partner, simply because I am a good human being. My point is, it is always better to lead by good examples and good behaviours, and not to resort to scare tactics, slander, hateful words, smear campaigns and negative behaviours. This applies to both sides of the argument.
Now can we please get one thing straight - as it stands right now, civil unions are not equal to marriage. Please google it to see the differences between civil unions and marriage, and understand that civil unions do not give the same benefits and protections as marriage. I personally don't care what you call it, as long as we get equal benefits and protections. But please understand the differences before you use this as an argument.

Last time I checked, I didn't give money, & neither did anyone I know. Most of the people of Utah were concerned about Utah, & not about California. If Utah sucks so badly, why do so many Californians move here? For as much emphasis that they put on the LDS church, there sure aren't the numbers to back them up…..
