Boo! Peru Bans Gay Cops

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Etc.

peru-police-emblem.jpg

In Peru, Interior Minister Mercedes Cabanillas has banned gays from the police force.

The new law states that anyone who has sexual relations with someone of the same gender will be indefinitely suspended from the police force.

But the law doesn't stop there!

The same goes for people who cheat on their spouses, and people who organize and participate in strikes or protests.

So basically, if you're a cop in Peru, you've given up a lot of your basic rights…even as you're supposed to be protecting the rights of others.

When can we finally evolve and learn to see people as…well, people.

      Mucho sucko!

    3. 3

      THIS SUCKS!

    4. 4

In all jobs where your life can possibly be in jeopardy the rule is to try to keep any kind of sex anything away. They feel that it can and will interfere with concentration. One second look away at the one you desire could end you dead. This is learned from the Army. It is kind of the same everywhere. You cannot be gettin' your groove on when you must concentrate. That is the only reason these things are done.

It makes sense in some way don't you agree?

    5. 5

So the Peruvian government is a homophobic regime that sucks ass.
And the Italian girl in Angels & Demons is an Israeli actress.
There's no many things in this fucking world that don't make sense.

    6. 6

      cuz they're so0o0o0o intimidating!

      Re: LaLaLams

I'm sorry but while you're at work, you're not having sex. Gay men and gay women think about sex. Heterosexual men and women do to. If thinking about sex stops you from getting a job done, then we should all go home and masturbate constantly.

    8. 8

Being a cop is a macho job. Just like the military. Do we really need gays being beaten up over their sexuallity in such a macho occupation? Hazing has been known to go too far with these situations under the best of circumstances. Sometimes it is for the safety of others. Sad but true, it may be for the best.

Is there any logic for the ban? how do any of those qualities affect their police work? This will lead to all sort of problems in Peru, a police body with a moral complex is a ticking bomb.

Re: LaLaLams – No not really, I know I could not get aroused under stress, besides sexuality is selective, you don't just get it up for everything that walks, as evidence look at don't ask don't tell. Most gays are outed when they are out of danger, not in the line of fire, not because they are seen with a tent (aroused) lol or because they were distracted when in danger.

    12. 12

So what Perez? Each country is independant and deserves to have their own constitution and rights… what about reporting what they do to Cuban gays in Cuba??? No? Peru is a nice country, I was lucky enough to visit it and it was wonderful, peruvians are really nice and kind ppl and knowing how you LOVE to twist stories I'm pretty sure you got lost in translation and your a-nal side made a big buzz about a simple story!

    13. 13

What I said is what I learned in the Army. It is a set standard and it is what they teach you. I found that despite all the rules and discipline that they impose that sex things went on anyway.

I am not in the military anymore, nor am I a cop. I work a regular job and I don't think about sex all day. My life is not in jeopardy.

No one has to agree with me. I'm just relaying how it is when you're in. Go be "in"… they'll teach you too - or try to.

    14. 14

Peru is a gross and smelly nation.

    15. 15

Oh yes and ps… ALOT of people get aroused by dangerous situations.

    16. 16

Puffin, you have no right to talk about Peru like that, it is not a shit hole, first straight up tell me you're from there and understand what's going on before you go on talking like that because I bet you have no clue wtf you're talking about.

    17. 17

      Evolve or dissolve.

    18. 18

Sounds like a corrupt government to me.. They're well on their way to becoming North Korea!

    19. 19

Re: peppergrl – Australia Britan Canada New Zealand and Isreal have had gay cops and Gays in the military for years and your coments are stupid!

    21. 21

I mean who wants cops that fuck guys up the butt?

    22. 22

      WTF PEREZ.
I'm half peruvian and you obviously don't know the culture there or morals.
YES they are all very macho.
I have a dad and too many uncles that don't deal with gay shit.
Don't talk shit about other countries.
      Just stick to the US…shit.

    23. 23

Re: Puffin – You are an ignorant, I've been to Peru and it's a beautiful place, as a matter of fact southamerican countries are far from what we are taught, they are beautiful nice places filled with history. There's nothing shitty about Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile or any other southamerican country, the issue here is that everytime ppl talks about southamerica most of us relate it to mexico a country that IS a real shit hole.

    24. 24

      wtf.

      follow me at twitter.com/cinaaadoll

    25. 25

OK, to all of those people who are saying shit about my country I give them a straight up FUCK YOU! I am from Peru, and I've been in the U.S. since I was 6, I love both countries, though I don't agree in same sex marriage. I think Peru is heading on the right track, people no longer have a sense of morality anymore. Cops represent law and enforcement, and in Peru being gay is not representative of the wonderful and rich country that Peru is. Think about it…if gay was the natural, and the right way to go, how the hell will we evolve, and please leave artificial insemination aside, because that's not an option in this case. Everyone is entitled to do whatever they want in their private lives, but when it comes to representing your country it's a different story. Also, why do you think the U.S military has the same policy?? Hmm…something to think about.

    26. 26

The first point is that same-sex marriage is not a civil rights issue. Without exception, every adult in Maryland already has a right to marry. But everyone also has restrictions on whom they may marry–again, without exception. No one is permitted to marry a child, a close blood relative, a person who is already married, or a person of the same sex. These restrictions apply equally to everyone–there is no discrimination involved.

    27. 27

Re: Peruvian1985 – . I like your country but think the have it wrong I support equality for everyone

PS Uruguay Today Lifted its Ban On Gays In The Military :)

    28. 28

      hmm…..

so all this really means, is that there will
be a lot more closeted policeman in Peru

which for me is 2 things
      an unfair policy - and a wet dream cum true ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

      ah well…

      Re: aaabbbccc

I call BS on your statement!

      I dont agree with you…

Is it equal if we call it Marriage for Whites and Civil Unions for Blacks ?

      No!!!

The same but different isnt equal ! !

Being banned from a job due to your sexuality is a civil rights issue!!!

    31. 31

Well, what else can you expect from peruvians? They still live in the Inca era

    32. 32

      YES!!

    33. 33

Re: Kate27_is_a_Moron:-) thank you, I appreciate the heads up…no need to read anymore from her, I can see the accuracy of your screen name already.

    34. 34

Uhm, you live in America. BIG difference. Not all countries have our freedoms.

    35. 35

Re: Puffin – Lol Peru is a place filled with culture, same happens with other southamerican countries but i guess you never read a book about any of them or even take the time to visit at least one of those countries… I feel sorry for your ignorance, Peru is not only beautiful, it's a rich country, rich in culture and in ppl, did you care enough to read my whole statement? obviously not! You are one of the ones who still think that southamerica is the same as mexico!
No one is threatening their human rights, they are a democracy, they are just trying to make a point on moral values, police officers are volunteers so if they agree on those codes then good for them. Of course there are human rights duh! it's not guantanamo!

    36. 36

LOL!!!!! Seeing this issue from my very own country posted here in PerezHilton.com is kinda, well… priceless… LMAO! Well yeah, I'm Peruvian and I live in Peru and yeah this sucks… I mean, seriously, this is a huge step backwards to the military regime ages back in the 70s. And this makes us look like some sort of communist country to the eyes of the world, which really ashames me. However, most of the opposite parties to the government have raised their voices against this, what we consider, a serious offense against basic human rights.

According to the government, these measures were taken due to some scandals that became of public knowledge when some nasty videos were revealed… female police officers stripping, male police officers drunk and 'having fun' with prostitutes and so on. And when the media started criticizing and mocking their lack of morality, the Minister said that actions needed to be taken… But we didn't see that coming, and according to some reliable sources, the Minister herself belongs to an ultra-conservative religious party.

So, for us, this is just a poor attempt to clean the already damaged reputation from the Police… bringing back some dictatorial measures with a controversial law that puts our country "in the eye of the storm."

    37. 37

Re: Puffin – Lol you are really funny!

    38. 38

I don't think it's good to ban all gays from the police force. I don't agree with that new law. But i do think that they shouldn't allow gay males that are too femenine to be in the police force. In that kind of jobs you need to be cold, senseless, sometimes hostile. Gay men that are femenine are the opposite. They don't match the profile. They should let gay men that are masculine to be in the police force.

    40. 40

every country has their good and bad circumstances so stop bashing on Peru like it's the only country in the world that restricts homosexual rights. I'm an American citizen but my parents are Peruvian. You can be such a dick sometimes Perez but whateverz you are the way you are…..

    41. 41

you are soooooo obsessed with sex, you must not be getting much…,nothing else going on in your life. Look fatty, leave Peru alone. Not everybody is obsessed with sexuality like you are. go get a good fuck and quit whining, and no i hace Nothing against Homos, but I'm peruvian and if you want respect don't disrespect others, then again, you are nothing more than a fat gossipy looser…

Re: Puffin – you're a pathetic pig, a bigot, and HIGHLY ignorant (just like the average northamerican, "no ofense" :D ) AT LEAST TRY TO THINK BEFORE MAKING SUPID COMMENTS. I KNOW IT'S HARD FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU TO ACTUALLY THINK, BUT TRY PLEASE…

    45. 45

Re: KateT – Kate many countries have more rights then you have in America! :)

    46. 46

FUCK. MY. LIFE. I'M PERUVIAN!!! And I'm a huge gay rights' person!!
Though I do agree with the cheating on your wife thing, a respectable man or woman doesn't do that and police officers should be respected. I completely disagree with the strikes and gay thing though.

    47. 47

      Re: peppergrl

Yeah because machoism is the fundamental principle which guides our rights and freedoms…

    48. 48

I think this is outrageous but yet, I'm not surprised. I'm half Peruvian and most of my family is from Peru and I've spent countless summer there as a kid and their police force is a tad unjust. However, I disagree with the people calling it a "shithole" for it is not a shithole. It's a country filled immensely with culture. Obviously, there are some dangers there because of the country's past but there are very nice places as well. I am deeply disappointed with the Peruvian minister and I hope that this ban is overturned. By the way, I'm sure when Perez says basic rights, he means basic human rights which EVERY human being is born with.

"Being a cop is a macho job. Just like the military. Do we really need gays being beaten up over their sexuallity in such a macho occupation?"

Being a cop is no longer just a "macho" job, as you can see, many women have joined the police force. Same goes for the military. Are you insinuating women shouldn't be allowed to work as a cop or join the military? Idiot.

I DON'T AGREE WITH THEM ON BANNING GAYS FROM THE POLICE FORCE THOUGH…

Re: Jack_XRe: Puffin – Hey you! do not speak like that please! have you ever been here, in Peru? You cannot trust in all the information the media gives you! I don't think the real problem it's going to disappear creating another law( there are just too many). It's not about gays, it's about having a suitable behaviour while you're performing such an important role. It doesn't have to do with gays or lesbians, but with the scandals many Police members have been involved.

    51. 51

Re: Nonbreeder – It is true that there are prejudice and stuff like that but in your whole statement you dindn't mention anything extraordinary. Discrimination, poverty, STARVING DOGS? That happens anywhere, NOT only in Peru. Take a look in the US, teenagers go to their schools and KILL their classmates with a gun because they are tired of all the agressions . Haven't you notice?

    52. 52

Re: clocita – dummy! Peruvians are doing better than Americans! freaking Jonas brothers are going there and have two shows..and they are selling freaking tickets for $400 dollars each and tickets are sold out! of course Peru is doing better!! people cannot even afford to go to a $20 dollar show here because we are in recession… and I read all the newspapers from Peru online and I do not see that article relate to this news..now Perez need to look for reliable news!

    53. 53

Re: Nonbreeder – well I am from Peru. I live in Lima. Yes, Peru is a classified as a 3rd World Country. Yes there are zones in Lima where the traffic is mad and yes there are but the fact that you say that there's an incredible prejudice againts people that look "indian" seems pretty irrational to me, since more than 90% of the population on Peru are native descendant. In terms of big clubs I guess your guide didn't show you well, next time you're in Lima gimme a call, I'll make sure u have a blast. I'll even drive you to a beach boulevard 30 minutes away from Lima where there is nothing but clubs, clubs, and well… more clubs. And well, I have never seen Cuzco as a tourist trap. I think once you arrive in Cuzco all you can breathe is culture, history and now it is infested with art. I'm terribly sorry than we didn't even meet up to your beauty standards…. So who's got THAT terrible prejudice against native descendant people? That's All

    54. 54

Re: perezito_is_an_asshole – give it up and go back to your regular perez hilton name! moron! LOLZ

    55. 55

I do believe in equality for everyone. But I don't believe in people on here saying mean things about a country, any country. Hey Perez if you are gonna put up thing about equality which is completely fine.. maybe also put up a post about how ignorant some of the people on here are making uneducated comments about a country and rude comments about the people that live in it.

    56. 56

Re: Puffin – So are you going to say America is also a shithole? Death Penalty? Juveniles sentenced to death without parole? Katrina survivors still homeless? Racial Profiling? These are also huge human rights issues!! Many many countries need to fix a lot of things, but it is ignorant of you to say such things of a country and it's people.

    57. 57

I say send all of those boys here! Peruvian men are HOT HOT HOT.

    58. 58

      an italian poet once wrote…
"Peru is a homeless person sleeping on a parkbench made of gold". The curios things about shit holes is …..they usually have the happiest people in the world. To all you pretentious fucks….all we are is "dust in the wind". Arriba Peru carajo! :)

Re: Nonbreeder – You make no sense at all! Let me tell ya, I've been to Peru and I stayed at the Double tree hotel, it was a luxurious hotel and I was close to EVERYTHING in Lima, it was safe to walk around and let me tell ya there was a small park nearby and I saw dog walkers with pretty clean dogs around. It's true that traffic is a chaos, we were thinking about renting a car to drive around but we had to desist on that idea and get a driver, driving there was scary!
As far as I read Yma Sumac was known for being really picky or a DIVA, it really calls my attention that she didn't care to program an A tour, seems like you and her went for the cheapest option and ended up having a bad experience. I also think that Yma Sumac had to leave the country due to some scandal I think she was someone's lover but I'm not that sure about that…
How come in the land of Incas there's a lot of prejudice? That makes no sense at all! True most of the ppl in Peru are dark skin ppl but I swear I never met ppl so warm and so nice in my life, they helped us a LOT! I was lucky enough to meet lots of peruvians who are still my friends, really well educated people with good manners and who spoke english almost as good as we do.
It sounds to me like you were the one having a hard time dealing with "dark" ppl, well I'm pretty sure you booked a third-class trip.

    60. 60

Re: XicAmUyBoNitA – Its really sad to read that coming from a peruvian person, if you dislike your country that much then your life must be really miserable… tell me how can you stand living in what you called a "shithole"???
I had the great opportunity to be in your country recently and I found it adorable, ppl are so caring and so proactive, they were so hopeful to get into new ventures and get out of the terrible crisis they experienced years ago with that same president. I was there with Bill Clinton comittee and had the chance to meet your president and let me tell you he didn't seem bipolar at all!
It was really glad to see a country struggling hard to compete against first world countries and able to do anything to be a high power country, I was delighted to hear the president and his entourage talking about the opportunities of investment and the statistics on previous investors, your country will soon experience a big change and become a powerful nation for sure, when that happens you will be regretting all your words.

    62. 62

Re: dustinthewind – Lol that's true! I fell in love with Peru and other southamerican countries… I have to be honest I loved Cuzco more than Lima but it was just because of the traffic. Peruvian food is one of the bests too! I'm so glad my job allows me to travel a lot and know a lot about different cultures!

    63. 63

Re: Rich_86 – very well stated, my guess is that she booked for a third class tour and got scammed, being cheap in southamerica is a sin!

    64. 64

Whats wrong with u Perez? Dont talk shit about other countries… just stick to the US. U JUST CANT TALK ABOUT A COUNTRY U DONT EVEN KNOW

    65. 65

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU KATE27

    66. 66

First off Peru is NOT america. They don't really believe in the basic rights stuff like America does. And if you have ever been there you know damn well that a lot of south america is corrupt and yet religious at the same time. Just because someone doesn't have the same beliefs as you doesn't make them ignorant. I support gay marriage but I am understanding why people are against it. It shows ignorance on your part that you don't acknowledge opposing arguments in a neutral light and just immediately bash them and call them names like you are some kind of overgrown child. Oh wait, look who I'm talking to, I guess that view matches.

    67. 67

Re: Puffin – You are a total idiot, Peru is a fantastic country it's amazing. From Machu Pichu to the magic Lima, to the beautiful Ica desert, the country is beautiful. And I don't know why are you so happy because the police detainned some protesters, people have the right to show their dislike. I remember how many times protesters against Bush were detained, now is Obama's turn.- Politic as ususal. And you are a total moron, sorry to say.

    68. 68

WOW!!! Who would of thought Peru wouldn't be sweet about Gay Rights. Do you live under a rock?

    69. 69

For the record, I don't agree with the gay discrimination, I think that Peru has bigger issues right now than caring about gay rights, as far as my understanding about Peru goes it's a religious country where catholicism & goverment go hand by hand so I think that it will take a long long time to get Peru into gay rights and same sex marriage.
I really get upset at all the racist comments and all the hate over peruvians, as I said before I had a pleasant surprise while I was in Peru, it's a really beautiful country where you can breathe and eat culture. Too bad Perez is missinforming on this whole situation and once more blowing this thing up.
Thanks for everyone supporting my statements ;)

AND THEY BELIEVE IN THE BASIC RIGHTS OF HUMAN BEINGS LIKE YOU DO. CORRUPT AND YET RELIGIOUS AT THE SAME TIME, UH?? WHAT ABOUT YOU, YOU HIPOCRITE??? YOU GUYS HAVE THE "OH, I'M A CHRISTIAN CAUSE I'M AN AMERICAN" HIPOCRITYCAL MENTALITY. JEEZ, YOU GUYS ARE DUMB

    72. 72

maybe they don't want their force dressing like luitenent dangle and pulling people over with a disco ball that's mounted where the standard "blue lights" would be.

    73. 73

Re: XicAmUyBoNitA – I agree with you.

I was born and raised in Peru, just moved to the US 5 years ago and until then it was a shithole, that's why I moved. I had great friends but no, not all people are nice and "warm" like some say. The food is good too, but besides that, there's not much else to compliment.

Values and ideas are different there, gays are accepted in show business but that's about it. I do believe everybody should have the same rights and there should be no discrimination based on gender or sexual preference, but that's not the way the majority in Peru thinks, it's a very conservative country, mostly catholic, so what do you expect? Like others have mentioned, if other more basic human rights are not respected (even if they are laws), why would they care about gay rights? It is not correct but it's not a big deal over there, maybe one day things will change, but it's not their time yet.

    74. 74

Re: perezito_is_an_asshole – south america, central america, north america. continents do not share the same rules because all of these places within these "continents" are not parts of the same nation. peru is not part of the united states. i think you must have failed geography.

We should legalize gay marriage as soon as we legalize pedophilia…..I guess Pedophiles have the right to marry children too. We should be able to have sex with our sisters, moms…anybody…Hell, lets legalize Rape, Murder, Drugs..We should be able to marry our pet turtles, dogs, hippos too.

…Its all a question of Morality and Homosexuality is not moral.
