More Lecter!

| Filed under: Film FlickersJodie Foster

Another The Silence of the Lambs sequel is a go!

Almost 20 years after the film won Best Picture, Anthony Hopkins has agreed to reprise his infamous role as Hannibal Lecter. Unfortunately, Clarice Sterling is a no show. Jodie Foster has opted out to direct Claire Danes in a new film. Terrible idea!

Universal's take on the situation? She's replaceable!

Variety announced that Cate Blanchett is in talks for the role and Ridley Scott is set to direct.

Sounds impressive…but doesn't anyone have ideas for new films?!

  8. 8

Sequel? Hello…does no one remember that there was a sequel already? It was called Hannibal?

  9. 9

Yes, I heard High School Musical was in the works, that should appease your small mind.

  10. 10

Whoops, that was High School Musical 10!!

  11. 11

    Sounds like a snooze fest….

  12. 12

HERE'S A QUESTION FOR EVERYBODY: WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE ACTUAL MISS AMERICA!? CAUSE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD ONLY KNOWS WHO CARRIE PREJAN IS - SHE WINS!!!!!!!!!

  13. 13

All of the sequels so far sucked ass - I can't believe they keep doing this. Hollywood is dead

  14. 14

The other 2 movies related to the first movie suck big time. Jodie Foster knows how to pic movies, she rather go to something … Anthony Hopkins, on the other hand, seems to be stuck with the "Silence of the lambs", he should try doing something else… " Silence…" has been a classic since it's release in the movies, they should just leave the story alone.

  15. 15

    Re: Jasper13 – Agreed!

  16. 16

Once again you didn't do your research. Jodie Foster is an amazing director and has worked with Claire Danes in the past. Danes was in Foster's HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS - a GREAT movie.

  17. 17

    NOOOOOOOO!!

  18. 18

I just don't know what the big deal is about Cate Blanchet … she is just a skinny bonerack who is tall

  19. 19

Hey people there are still original movies being made all the time. A lot of them are very good but they still need to make movies that will make money. So do not blame the studios. Remakes and sequels have had a long history in Hollywood and they make a lot of money. So they will continue to be made. This new Star Trek movie proves it is worth the wait for a good remake, sequel or prequel.

IM ON THE VERGE OF SHOOTING SOMEONE.

  21. 21

till this day that movie still scares the shit out of me. the scene of buffalo bill at the end with his mangina is just fucking freaky. isn't it amazing that hopkins won an award for his performance in the movie even though he was only there for 20 minutes or so?

  22. 22

They screwed this shit up a long time ago: the one with Julianne Moore, then the one with Edward whatshisname…altho that one was better than the second. Hopkins was in all of them I believe, so it's really no surprise that he would do this one; need work much?

  23. 23

Hollywood has truly run out of new ideas. Is anyone really intriged by these Hannibal movies anymore? We get it: He's scary smart and evil! BORING!!

    again a Lecter movie!the first moviereally was a great movie,after it's over!

  26. 26

@ Kittencaboodle - He's the master villain. He's quite amazing. But a sequel is shit.

  27. 27

Cate Blanchett can act ANYTHING .. she's amazing

  28. 28

Just finished up the series today- Hannibal Rising. It was so bad. I hope it can be as good as the original, or Red Dragon. Julianne Moore was boring as Clarice.

  29. 29

Why can't Hollywood leave things alone??? Why?
Sir Anthony is great and Cate is awesome, but damn.
The movie is a CLASSIC! Can't we honor them by leaving them ALONE?!?!?!!?

  30. 30

Cate Blanchett was supposed to be Clarice in Hannibal. She will be fine.

I just hope they do something actually interesting with Hannibal.

  31. 31

Foster proves once again that he's Brain Dead. Julianne Moore or Cate Blanchett are much better choices for any movie role than the overrated, over-the-hill Foster.

  32. 32

Well…. there's already been a sequel. First, Silence of the Lambs, then Hannibal, then they made Red Dragon, and then Hannibal Rising. That's the complete Hannibal Lecter film and book series.

So, either Thomas Harris is in the works with a fifth book or helping out with the fifth installment in the film series. If neither's happening, I bet this movie will be shitty as hell.

  33. 33

Ok since no one in Hollywood can come up with ideas. How about having Lindsey Lohan play Clarice daughter 20 odd years later. If she can clean
up nicely! Lins would be perfect! Let her be in the same field as her mother
Jodie Foster!!! Think how that would look. Lins can pull it off! Just sayin…

  34. 34

Cate blanchett is a totally hot choice. If it is not Jodie herself then it should be Cate, if not Cate then shut down this remake.

    35

If Jodie Foster isn't in it there's no point.

  36. 36

Though I think Jodie Foster was of course incredible in the role of Clarice and the film deserved it 5 Oscars (which is a record.. it's only the second film in history to win this many Oscars. the first being One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest) I saw Hannibal and I love Julianne Moore and thought she did a great job. But the movie wasn't very good itself. I don't like the idea of Cat Blanchett. She's an OK actress but she's not tough enough or good enough to play Clarice. I also don't think they need to do a fourth movie. This movie was amazing, but the ones that followed weren't very good and they need to stop while they are… where they are instead of making it worse.

  37. 37

There is no new Hannibal movie… An old article from 2000 surfaced somehow and that is what this is. Notice it mentions nothing about Julianne Moore and it talks about it as the sequel to Silence of the Lambs and not Hannibal. No new movie people… which actually bums me out because I am one of the very few that actually LOVED Hannibal.

  38. 38

This rumour has been debunked several times over. The story is actually in reference to the original Hannibal sequel that was already made…8 years ago. If the Ridley Scott + no Jodie Foster beats sounded familiar it's because that's exactly what happened the first time. The sad thing is that if they didn't learn anything then, they probably never will and this film wouldn't have been much better than "Hannibal."

  39. 39

Re: Charlotte54 – FYI, Charlollete - Many films have actually won more than 5 Oscars. The current record holders are "Ben-Hur", "Titanic", and "Return of the King", each of whom took home 11.

The Silence of the Lambs is notable, however, for sweeping all 5 major oscar categories (Actor, Actress, Director, Writer, and Best Picture), becoming only the 3rd film in Oscar history to do so. (The others were "It Happened One Night" in 1935 and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" in 1975.) Actually, I think that's really a much better judge of quality in the end.
