And The Winner Is….

The underdog took the crown!

Congrats, Norway!

CLICK HERE to watch this year's Eurovision winner, Alexander Rybak singing Fairtyle.

He himself was stunned by the win! After the competition in Moscow on Saturday night, Alexander confessed that he thinks he is far from the best singer in this year's contest - he just had a story he wanted to tell "and I guess people liked my story. And I also play the violin - that always helps!"

He's cute and he's got a gimmick!

I'm happy for him but he definitely did not deserve to win. If you look at the way countries vote, its all political and not based on whose performance was the best. People have known for a while that for some reason Norway was going to be this years winner. Iceland should've won, her performance was phenomenal. and my Greece did well too. Sakis Rouvas is definitely getting a little older but this was his second time at Eurovision and he was incredible! Agapaw ton Saki!

  2. 2

oh and while Norway's performer seems very sweet it was basically Frodo singing Norway's equivalent of "Devil Went Down to Georgia"

  3. 3

I love Alexander, I'm sooo happy for him and Norway!!! :D

  4. 4

He was hardly the underdog, he's ben favourite for weeks now. Germany were never in with a chance, sorry, Perez.

There was nothing political about this years voting, it was half decided by a jury, so that excuse doesn't fly. Every country gave him a score over 6, not just Scandinavian countries. Besides - Norway only has, what, 4 or 5 other countries to get 'political' with.

He deserved to win, he's a gorgeous little kid with a great song. I did like Turkey and Armenia too, though.

  5. 5

SAKIS ROUVAS SHOULD HAVE WON! i mean cmon this Alexander guy is annoying, keep playing it cute and coy for the camera, keep smiling and keep acting like a sweet and innocent kid…. Sakis was by far the best. It was SO unfair he didnt win, or that he wasnt in the top3!

  6. 6

    Iceland should've won!
    She was amazing :)

  7. 7

Meh, I'l stick with Sondre Lerche as my Norwegian singing cutie.

  8. 8

Norway did so deserve to win! The coolest thing is: Alexander won at the national day, and it was the 50th anniversary of Norway in Eurovision. Greece was okay, but not good enough. people hate it when Norway win anything. Like World Idol. They never threw another world idol after Kurt Nilsen:) I'm proud to be a Norwegian, we're wicked! Alexander vant fordi han er best, sĂ¥ det sĂ¥!

  9. 9

Estonia should have won, comparing all of the songs - only Iceland and Estonia
had songs that sounded something that you would actually keep listening if heard on the radio and not just change the channel quickly

Urban Symphony - Rändajad (Estoania's song 6th place)

  10. 10

Underdog? He has been the favorite for some time now. Last couple of days his odds on betting sites have been at 3ish while Germany for example was at 140.

  11. 11

    aww this was cute!
    he gives a great performance!:)

  12. 12

    Re: Fridriksdottir
hahah islendingur? ja hun hefdi att að vinna

  13. 13

Wow, that was an awesome performance..

  14. 14

I'm from spain and his performance was awful!!!!!!!!!!! He did not deserve to win!!!!!!!!…… Maybe germany or my country but not him!!!!!!!. Obviously the vote its political!!!!. It is the first time that a country get too many votes!…

  15. 15

Is he really playing the Violin? I don't know much about the Violin but he has a broken cord.

  16. 16

    cute song
in euro-vision if u sing in english you get better points
    never understood that !

  17. 17

I liked Norway's performance, but I was rooting for Iceland and Portugal… Especially Iceland.

  18. 18

BLAHHH, LAME AND SUCK ASS! DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL THEM POLKA MUSIC WENT OUT 20 FREAKIN YEARS AGO?? SMDH.

  19. Faux says – reply to this

    19

    Re: indierock

    Haha so true, so true!
And none of this political bullshit please.. He got top votes even from countries politically "allied" with some of the russin countries more or whatever so, stfu please

  20. 20

If they made a dance remix of this song it'd be played in EVERY club. Or even a freestyle mix. But he can't sing it. The violin has to be replaced by computer made music, etc. etc. etc.

  21. Kylyn says – reply to this

    21

Perez, it feels like your juice is getting weak. This is the news you feel is fit for us to read about? I feel the celeb juice less and less the more I visit.

  22. 22

    I love it!
    lisagreen77777@yahoo.com

  23. 23

Lame as usual Mario - you are not a serious journalist. Nite Piggy face!

  24. 24

Re: emsley05 – you're totally right, his bow hairs broke…it's pre-recorded. I mean I'm not saying he doesn't actually play, but what we hear was pre-recorded.

  25. 25

I'm sooo proud :) Thank U Alexaner :) It was a joy hearing your fairtyle …. :) I thought that it was just the media who where over their heads, but no…. not this time…. :) Congrats :)

  26. 26

    uuuhmmm…. he wasn't good….. at allllllllll. and i'm open minded….

it just was reeally… not what i hoped it would be.

  27. 27

you know why he won? it was understated and one of the most sincere songs at the competition (if you can believe it). Eurovision is not for the lactose intolerant… if you catch my drift…

  28. 28

Alexander is so cute, I voted for him. We love him (:

  29. 29

Norway was not the underdog at all! Everyone was betting weeks ago that either Norway or Turkey would win. After a bad performance by Turkey, Norway was the clear winner and Iceland had an amazing performance and came in second place! Congratulations to Norway and to Iceland (where I am from). 2nd Place is fantastic as we can't afford to host Eurovision next year anyways!

  30. 30

Also, the vote was only a small portion political. They set it up so people's votes only counted for 50% and a jury decided the other 50%… that way a country couldnt just vote for who it was friends with unless they actually had good songs.

  31. 31

aww I liked Turkey and Israel. But yay for Norway!!! ^_^

  32. 32

BTW, he is not underdog PEREZ, he was favourite singer from the begining. It was not a surprise that he won. And it's the first time in looooooooooooong Eurovisin history when a participant gets so many votes from all the countries (:

  33. 33

The underdog?! Oh please. . .Favorite from the moment he landed in Moscow.
Never in the media did we ever hear about this Oscar swings sings or what his name is. Alexander Rybak won with a great song, and his violin. And no his cord is not broken , it's obvious that you've never seen this type of instrument 'live' . Maby he's not a very good singer , but the song is good.

  34. 34

He reminds me of Johnny Depp.

  35. 35

    NORWAY FREAKING ROCKS!!!

And perez, alex was never the underdog! We had the best performance and the most catching song!!! I can agree that some votes are a bit political, but not all of them in favor of Norway!
    Your all just jealous anyways….

HEIA NORGE OG HIPP HIPP HURRA FOR 17 MAI!!!!!!

  36. 36

Re: SiljeRosa – Heia heia norge, og hipp hipp hurra gor 17 mai !!!! :) Independence day :)

  37. 37

he wasnt the underdog. he was pegged to winn from the start. and also he's half belarussian, that helped get the eastern european vote!!!!! cant wait for next years party!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. 38

I soooo didn't liked him. He was one of the worst from all of them! Looks stupid, smiles like an idiot. The best were Great Britain - for voice, Ukraine - for performance. And they both haven't made even first 3. :( (((

  39. 39

I guess im the on of the few norwegians who missed this, i fall a sleep before the contest started :(
But i congratulate Alexander wth his victory, he may not be the greatest singer as mentioned here before, but he sure is a good entertainer, and he plays with passion.

The only flipside to the story
The norwegian radiostations have been overplaying this song for 3 months already, now they will play it even more !!!

  40. 40

Eurovision is such a joke… music today is dedicated to the idiots all over the world. sad, isnt it?

  41. 41

You fucking jerk! Why didn't you hide it! I wanted to watch it tonight blissfully unaware of who won you great big idiot and now I can't!!!!!!!! ARGH!

  42. 42

    ARMENIA SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I LOVED THEIR PERFORMANCE

  43. 43

    Yay! Congrats Norway and Alexander!

  44. 44

    Iceland was the best

  45. 45

I vote Urban Symphony - Rändajad for Estonia. I've been playing it over and over. Iceland was good also… but Norway kinda stunk overall.

I always prefer a song in the country's native tongue.

  46. 46

Well, my favourite was England! I think Jade sang her song sooo wonderful.
    France was also stunning.
but i liked Norway too. It had something i really liked but i cant put my finger on it.
But I believe the votes r a bit political. cos most countries vote for their political friends. So it was clear right from the start that Germany wouldnt win (even with Dita- who looked fab).
I am a German, I thought or song was ok and expected at least a little higher ranking…but nope.

  47. 47

Perez , you should learn how to spell FAIRYTALE first. lol

  48. 48

    HE WAS NOT THE UNDERDOG!!

Geeeez! If you're not sure of something, DONT write it!!
    unprofessional!

  49. 49

he definitely deserved it. I can't stop listening.

  50. 50

Well as usual Perez don't know squat… Alexander was NOT the underdog…. he was predicted to win since he won the final in Norway…. so as usual Perez get FACTS and get them straight b4 you do stupied things like hmmm, write them?!??

  51. 51

but there were other great songs also like Iceland.
And I agree that he's not the best singer but i loved the song

  52. 52

Heia Norge! NĂ¥ er vi pĂ¥ perezhilton igjen dere!!

  53. 53

The song won because it was very different from the rest and very catchy. But you will very fast get tired of hearing this song.

  54. 54

He was not the underdog… he was number one in the bookmarks ;)

  55. 55

OK, he won. But the song is fucking tiresome!

  56. 56

Congrats. I honestly diden't like it that much tho.

  57. 57

happy independence day Norway, and congratulations for winning! Definitely the best performance this year (although this year was complete crap anyway), he was charming :]

  58. 58

HE IS CUTER THAN ZAC EFRON!!!!!
And makes his own music too!

  59. 59

    Ewww

  60. 60

He was so cute! I voted for him, and I never vote for these things, and his music wasn't the best. But he had the all mighty cute factor.

  61. 61

    Re: harrington
Yeah, I agree. Everything's based on politics/historical events like UdSSR & Hitler Germany. I didn't like Iceland that much, but I enjoyed the UK and Greece very much. They should have made it to 1st or 2nd place, but … oh well.
I did like Norway's SONG but sadly not the voice of alex. it's a shame really. The song was great the singer was just not doing it for me.

  62. 62

    Re: LuiscgSpain

    BULLSHIT.
    Political?? HOW?
The ony one who vote political is the countries who used to be in the eastern bloc! U are just mad spaind dint win! The spanish song was soo boring! And sounded just like all the other ones!

  63. 63

    Re: dazzlingdynamite

Same here, I never vote in this contest, I barely ever watch it, it's a biggest piece of crap, but this Alexander guy is really great. I like him and I voted for him, go Norway!

  64. 64

    He is great!!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. 65

at first, when i heard this song on cd, i was no fan. but when i saw him perform Thursday (second semi-finals) it left a big impression. The way he performs and use the camera is just amazing. and his smile is just adorable.
i think he deserved it to win. and his victory has nothing in common with political voting. he has received from almost every country the highest points!

p.s.: just his date of birth made him special: 13th of May, 1986. exact the same day (and year) as Robert Pattinson!!

  66. 66

I'm so happy with this result! Not only did my favorite song win but my country Iceland, placed second:) Happy day for this Eurovision fan.

  67. 67

he was never the underdog!!! Alexander was the favorite since the night he won the Norwegian Eurovision Song contest - it was an instant hit and it was obvious this was a spectacular performance. In the final Alexander received the most points for a country ever with some 367 points. It was a sincere performance based on previous relationship. The ex has been out in the media just wishing Alexander well and being just sweet since the win. How cool is that !?! Today is Independence Day in Norway and the win is the best b-day gift ever! Hipp-hurra for 17 mai! Gratulrerer med dagen Norge!

  68. 68

    he is cute!!
    (L)

  69. 69

Re: Linda81 – are you blind def and stupid? sakis was the absolute performer!!!!!!!~
    SAKIS FOREVER!!!

  70. 70

Re: harrington – Sakis ftw!!!!!!!!!Eprepe na kerdisoume!

  71. 71

Re: SuKi – YOU'RE DEAF AND STUPID TOO

  72. 72

SAKIS SAKIS SAKIS SAKIS HE IS THE GREATEST EUROPEAN PERFORMER!! HE IS THE WINNER!!! I DON'T CARE WHAT THE FUCKING VOTING SAYS

  73. 73

I loved this song, and his performance in Eurovision last night was awesome, I really hoped he would win! I was so glad when he did, sure it was sad that my own country, Sweden, did so poorly. But Alexander really deserved to win

  74. 74

Norway was alright… but there were definitely others that deserved to win other than them…
    Iceland and Sweden were phenominal.

  75. 75

He was not the best, but i'm happy for him… Turkey did a really bad performance, Hadise sang really bad!!! Romania surprised me…

It's curious, the most voted songs were in english…it's clear that if you wanna win in eurovision you have to sing a song in english, and that's not fine, I think that everyone should sing in their lenguage

    sorry for my english

  76. 76

un-freaking-believable!!! cmon! people only voted for him because they became all symathic when he broke his violin.. (sure.. great for our neighburs Norway, and I agree the Swedish song…sucked!). And germany, TOO LITTLE DITA!

  77. 77

Aaaahww, he can't sing, but he is cute!! And he plays the violin very well!

  78. 78

perez maybe its time to do some research! he was always tipped off to win, and was the bookies favorite. so he wasnt shocked at all.

  79. 79

It's so wierd that my neighbor won the whole damn contest!!!! :D He's so nice and thoughtful. He has a really good heart!

    Gratulerer med dagen, Norge!:)

  80. 80

Well the thing is Eurovision song contast allways had countrys send songs that are typical Eurovision song contast wich makes all songs sound the same, in other words most songs sucked the preveious years. This year most countrys went for winning, but they done the classic misstake of sending songs that sounded so much alike. I mean sweden estonia iceland bosnien croatia. all they had this strong singers singing and all of them sounded great but none was really sticking out. Norway song was only song in this contast that was fresh and new and something we havent seen before in this contast. People allways want something new, so Norway defenitly gave them something new. I Think song was AMAZING It was fun, new, fresh, and performance was awesome. U could really see that he was there to "tell his story" and let people enjoy it… 12 Points to norway!!! god job!

  81. 81

    Eurovision is so 70s!

  82. 82

Re: emsley05 – Nothing unnormal about some hair of the bow breaking (it has like 80-100 hairs).
The violin is pre-recorded because of some rule, only thing live and not playback there is his voice(albeit he is really playing the violin you just can't hear anything).

  83. 83

i like this song, but my favorit is ICELAND and ESTONIA

  84. 84

Re: commitment – No, but I guess you are if you liked that performance. Besides it's spelled deaf, not def..

  85. 85

OHMYGOSH what has become of this eurovision. This song is awful and really weird, like he is just being cute well.. thats all.
And sorry perez but Germany was really bad haha that just sucked. Dita was amazing but anyways, ppl just voted for this stupid guy because his violin broke

  86. 86

HE WAS BORN ON THE SAME DAY AND YEAR AS ROBERT PATTINSON :)

  87. 87

Eurovision is fab. Last night there was a big proportion of countries going back to their roots and using traditional music and costumes and that's what it's all about IMO.

The UK did not too bad considering the whole of Europe hated us over the wars we've stirred up with the USA.

Germany did crap even though they had Dita Von Tease stripping for them.

  88. 88

this song was lame and old fashioned imo.Sakis was much better but the eastern and the scandinavian blogs did their "job" again as always.sakis was much better.anyway we all know that most of the winners of the Eurovision never have an internationally succesful carreer ,except celine dion and ABBA.
P.S. Norway had ALREADY arranged the stadium where Eurovision will take place in 2010 2 days before the finals (THURSDAY THE 14TH). NOW that says it all.

  89. 89

Eurovision was great this yr really happy for Jade Ewen getting in the top 5 is such a great achievement for britiain :) im glad a western euro country won this year and the political voting has kinda stopped

  90. 90

Cmon Perez "underdog" he has been the favourite for ages,i liked it but for me the best singer and perfomers were Iceland and the UK, i thought Iceland was really cool and could easily see it being a hit record, but the UK and the singer Jade Ewen was outstanding that girl has soo much class, and it makes me wonder how a small country can produce soo many great singers and bands,i suspect Jade Ewen will be assaulting our billboard chart very soon.
Dita was a little lame and pointless and also made her self look cheap.

  91. 91

This kid is the son of two Russian emigrants from Minsk (clever politically for the east). I thought his song was perfect for a European wide style audience (considering Azerbaijan is part of Europe now????) That said, I absolutely love him, talented cute sweet, I don't think anyone heard the song they just watched him and dreamt of pulling his pants down.

  92. 92

Re: emsley05 – he is a world class fiddler…. the horse hair always comes off the bows, it's just the lighting

  93. 93

We have to stop saying there is political voting!
    That's not true anymore!
Norway's act just had the X-factor: nice song, good dancers, backing vocals and a nice singer. He's probabaly not the best singer but he has the x-factor!
    Love Alexander!!

  94. 94

I loved the icelandic song, and hoped they would win, but even if they had won they would not afford to host it next year.. :) But the biggest surprise I think was how few point denmark got.. It was a great song and he gave a great performance.. :)

  95. 95

    Re: merka

I felt sorry for Saki too, his 15 minutes was over 20 years back. His song sucked and his performance was hilarious. Alexander did a great job, even Balcan countries (who always vote for each other) gave him the highest points. Norway WIN.

  96. 96

Moldova should have won. But Norway was also good so I won't complain. Germany and Greece were both crap.

  97. 97

how was he the underdog? everyone's known for weeks norway was going to win. i wanted Greece or Croatia to win. but we did well! (uk) 5th, not bad :)

  98. Wippy says – reply to this

    98

AHH! Did you have to reveal the winner??!! I was just watching Eurovision (prime time in Australia is right now, and it's being played on a delay) and I have avoided finding out all day! I took a break from seeing the voting and now I've totally missed the suspense!
Next year can you perhaps hide the result, you know, like click here to find out who won EV.

Norway and Portugal were my faves though.

  99. 99

Underdog? Norway were the favourites from the off!

The voting system was better this year as it alleviated much of the politics. In recent years, big western European countries like Britain and France have had absolutely no chance of winning, but they both did quite well this time around.

  100. 100

he was sweet. im still in shock we came fifth this year!! go uk!! maybe we can win it next year, coz it seems eurovision is finally about the music and not block voting
