The National Enquirer Takes Advantage Of Brooke Shield's Mother!!

The National Enquirer have never been known for being the most reputable tabloid, but the stunt they pulled on Thursday was downright disgusting!
According to Brooke Shields, two reporters from the Enquirer checked her mentally ill mother out of an assisted living facility in Old Tappan, New Jersey - without her permission, obviously!!!
Explained Shields:
My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me. Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer… who falsely claimed they were friends of hers.
Taking advantage of the mentally ill, fellas???

Brooke continued:
They then drove my 75-year-old mother around looking for a tabloid story. As anyone knows who has a parent who suffers from dementia or Alzheimer's, it is one of the most difficult experiences you can go through as a son or daughter. The idea that the National Enquirer took advantage of her state is reprehensible and disgusting.
We couldn't have said it any better ourselves.
Shields is planning on taking "every lawful action against all who were involved or who authorized this despicable act," and rightfully so!
Police are currently investigating who at the facility allowed Brooke's mother to be signed out by the Enquirer.

So Sheilds is now saying that her mother has dementia to explain her behavior? She used to just admit that her mother was a loudmouthed drunk.
Wow that's absolutely sick. I would definitely send all of my lawyers after them if I were there. This is definitely punishable with jail time– can you say kidnapping charges?! Ick it makes me sick and disgusted; this is wayyyy too far, even for a piece of trash like the Enquirer.

Wow, I don't think I could even make a statement that coherent if I found out my old helpless mother was kidnapped by strangers from a facility that's supposed to look after her (which definitely includes keeping psychos away from her). What is horrible is that her mother is in a nursing home AT ALL!! With Brooks money she could very well afford to have her mom live with her and hire a full time nurse….. Nice, that is the way you repay your mom that took care of you all of your life.
Believe me if she did not have the resources I would see nothing wrong with putting someone in a nursing home but if I had her money I would never do that AND THEN AGAIN IF I DID NOT HAVE HER MONEY I PROBABLY WOULDN'T.

As a woman who's own mother is in a nursing home in the ending stages of alzheimers I can imagine how mad Brooke must be. It's devastating to watch a parent going through this but to have them taken advantage of in such a disgusting way is reprehensible.

Re: Tinalouise – having work with people with dementia and alzhiemers-it is better that they are in an environment with others to keep their minds active than closed up in an apartment or house. People with dementia can end up being like 100 lb babies, and Brooke has 2 young daughters to think of. Brooke is doing the best for her by keeping her in an assisted living facility. Unfortunately, someone there is not doing their job right if they just let people go off with anyone. sue the facility and the national enquirer.

My grandfather had dementia as well. My great aunt has Alzhemiers and lives with her husband. It has been awful for him to watch his wife fade away and he does not have the resources to take care of her. I doubt any of those people saying that nursing homes are evil have had a relative with alzhemiers or severe dementia. Having money doesn't neceesarily make a persoon with Alzhemier's or dementia able to live on their own. At least with a nursing home (the majority of the time) people are educated on how to help the patient. There are also more resources available to the person with dementia or alzhemiers.

My grandmother passed several years ago bu she lived in a nursing home in her final months. It was like a school…there was a list of those of us who could leave the premises with her and we had to show i.d. This was a state-run medical facility; nowhere fancy like where I imagine Brooke Shield's mom to be. I think the National Enquirer as well as anyone else involved should have legal action taken against them. This is horrifying!

I would immediately move my mother into another facility. Patients with dimentia and alzheimer's should never be allowed to be checked out of a facility by someone that is not listed on the patient release form. If I were Ms. Shield I would be suing the facility!

Teri asked the reporter to take her out to lunch and to run some errands. The freelance reporter then got permission from the facility to do so.
Teri wanted to go to her old house, so the reporter took her there.
She also asked if they could stop at her bank.
Afterward they went to a restaurant next to the assisted living facility and spent time together catching up. Teri ate a cheeseburger.
Teri has long considered this reporter a friend.
Teri returned to the facility in the afternoon.
At no point did the facility, which had given its permission for the outing, contend that there had been any wrongdoing in a situation where two people who had known each for more than a decade.
Even when police were wrongly called in, they confirmed that Teri had left the facility with permission and that no wrongdoing had been committed.
Kind of boring, but those are the simple facts.
Kidnapping is a felony. I hope they have the book thrown at them.
