Dad pleads not guilty to holding his kid down so he could be tattooed with gang symbol
A Fresno man who police said forced his 7-year-old son to get a gang tattoo pleaded not guilty today in Fresno County Superior Court to felony charges of aggravated mayhem and street terrorism.
Enrique Gonzalez, 26, wore a red jail jumpsuit and shackles around his wrist and leg in Judge James Quaschnick's courtroom. After the plea, Gonzalez was ordered to be held in jail without bail.
His next hearing will be June 16 — the same day co-defendant Travis Dewayne Gorman, 21, is scheduled to appear in court. Prosecutors want to try them together.
Gonzales had been a fugitive since April, when police accused him of holding his 7-year-old son while Gorman tattooed the dog paw on the boy's right hip. The paw is a symbol for the Bulldogs street gang, police said.
He was arrested Wednesday at a motel near Coarsegold in Madera County. After his arrest, police discovered a photograph of Gonzalez, his son and a third child. The two children had gang graffiti on their bodies, police said.
Gorman has been in jail since his arrest April 21. His bail is listed as $700,000, according to Fresno County Jail records. Gorman is not a licensed tattoo artist but does tattoos for Bulldog gang members, police said. It is illegal in California for a child younger than 18 to get a tattoo, officials said.
Gorman also has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of aggravated mayhem and street terrorism.
If convicted, Gonzalez and Gorman could face life in prison, lawyers said.
Court records says the crime occurred April 10.
According to police, Gonzalez and the boy's mother are separated, and the boy was staying with his father during the Easter break. The boy told his father he didn't want the tattoo, but his father forced him to have it, police said. The boy later complained to his mother, who alerted police. Gonzales pleaded not guilty today to charges in connection with his son's tattoo. He also pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of theft in November, and not guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving without a license in July and September last year.
Gonzales and Gorman both have prior criminal records.
Court records show Gonzalez pleaded no contest to felony theft in July 2007 and was sentenced to a year in jail and two years of probation. Gorman pleaded no contest to felony burglaries in December 2007 and in February 2008. He was later sentenced to two years in prison for the two burglaries.

Tattoo's are a form of expression, and yes it is art. Yes, we all will age, but I will age with grace, and friends, and look back on my life and recall all the memories with each tat.
