This is why MSNBC has no viewers. perez has more viewers than MSNBC. Olbermann starts off with Steele's position that gay marriage will cost small businesses too much in the way of extended benefits but tries to counter it with the possibility of more revenue from weddings. He doesn't address the additional cost for employers. Liberals just naturally lack reasoning and logic.

Yes, adding a spouse to an insurance plan will cost money, but theoretically, it would cost the same amount of money as if these people were to enter a heterosexual marriage. I think the only issue with Olbermann's research is that the 16 Billion dollars would probably be a burst of stimulus that would eventually die down; however, isn't that what the american - excuse me, North American economy needs right now? If you have moral qualms, you are completely entitled to your opinion, but if you have a seemingly sound plan to increase stimulus, without government funding, during an economic recession, it may be advised to enact that plan. But hey, since the regulations on the market were removed, the economy has just been fluctuating, right? Think about your 'free market' ideals and who they really help, because I doubt it's anyone who reads this website.

So many of these comments prove how ignorant the American populace truly is.

For starters, there is far too much emphasis placed on political parties. Pitting liberals and conservatives against one another is a massive waste of time. This is not to mention that such a large portion of our country believes so strongly in the two party system that all that they need to see is the (D) or the (R) next to a politicians name in order to agree or disagree with said person and their policies.

That being said, this is not about whether you are a republican or a democrat – this is about further alienating an entire population of people. I would like to remind all of you that aside from their struggles in today’s society, homosexuals have also been subject to genocide. The death rate of homosexuals in the holocaust was 60% - higher than any other non-jewish group of prisoners. This is also not to mention the fact that for a long time, there was little to no action at the start of the AIDS epidemic because it was considered to be a “gay disease.”

What makes you all think that, although we have the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, etc., that we should deny two people that love each other the right to say their vows and have the same rights as a straight couple? Black or white, gay or straight, republican or democrat, we are all people and we all deserve equal rights. That is what our country was founded upon.

Again, this is not about economics or politics! Its about doing the right thing and treating everyone as our equals. Turns out that we have been in a recession since December of 2007, and since then, things have obviously just continued to get worse. There is talk of another depression, and the possibility that it could be worse than ever before. This is scary, and as we all know, fear is a very powerful tool. So, of course a politician that is anti-gay marriage will use the economy to strike further fright into the hearts of their simple-minded, God-fearing citizens. This is a silly argument.

Pedophilia is something that is due to some sort of mental illness - so, according to your argument, "most" gays are mentally ill. Again, I hate to break it to you, but homosexuality was stricken from the list of mental illnesses by the American Psychiatric Association (in 1973).

Also, last time I checked, I don't think anyone truly cares if its called "marriage" or "civil unions" as long as they can have the same rights given to married heterosexuals.

You cited the promiscuity of homosexuals. This may or may not be the case, but if you consider a situation in which you had no possibility of marriage, would you submit to settling down at a young age? Doubtful.
