Another Slumdog Kid Put Out On The Streets

Yet another of the Slumdog Millionare child stars is watching their home be torn down by the Railway authorities in Mumbai. Rubina Ali played the younger version of the character Latika in the movie and her one room shack was illegally built along the new path for the expanding railway. Therefore, it was just demolished by men with sledgehammers, much like fellow star Azharuddin Ismail's shack was last week.
Photographers captured the young girl watching her home be destroyed and scraping through the rubble of her home with her mother, looking for their belongings.
What's even worse is that both children were promised a new home last February by the housing authority of Maharashtra state.
Someone should light a fire under these people and keep these kids off the street.
And hello, someone get that Jai Ho trust into effect, huh?
Clearly, these kids need help…NOW!

Didn't these kids (and their families) make any money from their roles in the movie? It is truly a shame that this is happening…but a reality that this kinds of stuff happens on a daily basis in many underdeveloped countries. I hope and pray that they have a home very soon.
yes lets give these 2 kids homes and fuck all the others
this is HORRIBLE! why hasn't more been done to help these children?
this really makes me cry
Hi there Perez very sad to see this part of the world and how kids are treated there with no hope if America would stop dealing with idia and giving them money untill they help innocent kids there. Where is the united nations when you need them they are not doing there job to protect and serve the world here we really need some change this breaks my heart they are really cute and talented kids.
That's sad, even though they have a trust fund they aren't getting nearly enough of what they deserve. Pay the kids dammit, they weren't just cheap labor you take advantage of to put in your movie.
It's so sad, talk is cheap… Maybe you should do something???? hold a benefit???
Re: ModeMistress – he there that was very nice things to say i hope they have a home real soon as well.
cnn reported that her 'home' was saved. i would like to know why the producers/owners of the slumdog can't dip into their $200mill profit and give up another $30k for a house for each. better yet, this this movie had the 'slums' in it, donate like $500k to a mill to build housing for a group of them. and challenge others to donate more. getting it started and going. It is really sad what they did to these children-show them hollywood, disney, fans, the parties, etc and then throw them back into the slums. it is not like here where you can say, if you work hard, someday you can attain this-not in India. it was like-here is something people like you are never going to see again bye bye
Where did all the money go? Someone should adopt those kids.
How come you never wrote about Jack White beating up Alison Mosshart?
When Rhianna gets beat up it's big news.
When Jack White hits one of his band members you don't care.
You're too caught up in dance & hiphop.
There's not enough rock & metal posts at your site Perez!!!!
There are millions living in the slums. I don't want to see any footage of that shit. Their country is fucked. Why don't their countrymen take care of them. Americans should stay the fuck out of it. Be thankful for what you have and worry about your own countrymen.
All you're posting now is stuff from other news sources. Do you break exclusives anymore?
what makes you all think these children are unhappy. They are all smiles. I went to Thailand were there are some of the poorest people. They are happy. They love their God, they have enough to eat, they love their King. They feel blessed.
:( too sad
So go help Perez… you look a lot like Sally Struthers go feed the children
Stuff like this happens there ALL the time.. It's horrible. It's just sad it that it took a oscar winning movie about a game show for us to take notice..
how do people know this?
are the paparazzi in the slums watching them or something?!
Ok so I'm going to sound like an ass for saying this but the bit** has some good press reps!!! I mean, wow isn't this just an awesome staged shot!!!
Re: Aimee999 – He steals the info from real sites!
I LOVE INDIA!! +D
Where did all the money go? Check the parents pockets. They were hired to do a movie, which they did and were paid for. Just because it won an oscar doesn't mean anything. What if it would have flopped? The kids would still be where they are, and nobody would be talking about them. This part of the world is an utter shit hole, and no amount of money the producers throw at would even be able to make a dent. This is a fact of life not just in India, but in most 3rd world hell holes. Nobody can help countries that do not want to help themselves. I have an idea? If you are searching through landfills for food and crapping in the gutter, perhaps having children is not such a good idea. I don't care what your religion says about abortion, pro creation, abstinence, birth control, or whatever……use your effing head.
Typical liberal comments on this story…..you made how much off of this movie? You should be paying more than you contracted then because a few kids are eating dirt. What about the risk the movie makers took on making it in the first place. It could have bombed. Would the same people be calling for the dirt eaters to give their cash back to the small film guys because they lost all of theirs and others money? Remember Darwin? I think maybe he was right.
Ah shit!
heres a though, perez you could set up a charity to help the homeless children of india or wherver you heart desires and you could start it off by donating all of the income you recieve from the sponsors and advertisers on this blog! even if its not alot it would get the ball rolling right?
awww thats so sad
and i agree with Sezzy, why are they only giving these two kids homes and none of the other kids new homes? thats seems unfair. :\
Re: justtfax – i agree, they definitely should do that.
the parents of these children are complete money grubbing self serving crooks!!!!!!!!!!!!! its one thing to be poor and live in the slums but these childrens parents are totally messed up. it was reported that one child was trying to be sold by her father!!!!!!! and that some of the children that were paid for there appearance in the film..there parents went back and demanded more money.
i feel sooo sorry for any child living in the slums. there are many parents there that exploit there own kids for money. im not saying that those children dont deserve more than what they were given. but with parents like those they will take what ever money they get and not even put it toward the best interest of the child. basically this was and indie film…not expected to make that much money. and just like some other movies out there (Twilight) for one was not expected to do good at all. and come to find out both blew everyone away with what they made at the box office. im sorry for whatever situation these kids are in. but believe me the parents of those children who were paid had something to do with this.
poor kids, if i had the fame id help kids like this that have asbsolutely nothing:(
we need to make these poor countries a better place for people to live in
This is frigged up. Why weren't these kids paid for their roles? What were they paid in, sunflower seeds? Give them their money!
What the hell!? Seriously how were these kids even helped!? It looks to me nothing is getting done.
This is sooo wrong! India is such a beautiful & peaceful place, can't understand how they let this ppl live under those circumstances! Hopefully the producers of the flick will do something soon!
There is not much difference between the Slumdog team and the character 'Maman' in the movie. Both used the kids as objects to make money. Only difference being 'Maman' used to maim these kids, Slumdog team discarded them. These people make movies so beautifully as they are great souls touched by these slum kids' lives, etc. If that is true why do we keep hearing one bad news after another about the 'Slumdog' kids. These people are shamelessly selfish. Cant they contribute a very small percentage of the millions they made for the welfare of these kids? The kids did contribute to the success of the movie!
