Natalie Cole Is Recovering From Kidney Transplant Surgery

Natalie Cole underwent a kidney transplant on Tuesday at a hospital in Los Angeles. The organ came from a deceased donor.
The singer had been diagnosed with Hepatitis C.
According to her rep, she is now resting up.
We're glad the surgery went well!
We wish her a speedy recovery!

I work for an organ procurement organization, and celebs DO NOT jump to the top of the list. Natalie Cole has been on the list for quite some time. She had to wait for a donor who matched her DNA the best, just like anyone else on the UNOS list.

that's awesome…i just had surgery and donated my kidney to my tia last month in az in mayo clinic..it's hard on both the donor and recpient…but a def rewarding experince! if it's from someone dead or alive, is a beauiful thing, its give the new chance of life…wish her the best! not to mention i grew up on her dads music coz of my padres!

I wish Natalie all the best!! I know what she is going through…I had a kidney transplant Nov. 13 2007 and the recovery is extremely painful..They cut you open usually on the right side about 8 inches and place the kidney in….After your surgery its about a 3 month recovery to build your immune system up due to the rejection meds making your immune system weak..Althought its a long healing process and getting used to taking many pills a day..Anything is bette than Dialysis.. Wish you all the best!!!
Re: Emobacca – Actually I had a kidney transplant…Trust me taking the meds everyday is a walk in the park to me than being on dialysis…Dialysis is harder on your body than the meds you take after a transplant…

this is bullshit. her hepatitis c was self induced from her extensive drug use. i thought it was not okay to give transplants to those with drug conditions.
re: sweetleaf, you are sadly misinformed. What an ignorant comment. Should all recovering addicts just be thrown in a ditch to rot away? Natalie is one of the few celebs to be up front about her struggles. A transplant is no walk in the park.

Re: fayne – I totally agree! She had to jump to the top of the list because she is famous because she has only been on dialysis since September. Unless a living donor gives you one the average wait is like two years. I know because my dad is currently on dialysis.
i think being a celebrity definately has to do with your position on the list my moms been on a transplant list for a kidney for over 6 years and natalie gets one in less than a year if i'm correct!?!?..thats just fucked up..
