Soap Star Quits Because Of Gay Kiss

Young & the Restless newcomer Chris Engen has up and left the series due to a shift in his character's orientation.
According to reports, the actor quit the soap this week because he allegedly did not want to kiss a male co-star.
Sources confirm that the actor has been absent from the tapings, calling in sick very frequently, and has been having meetings with the head honchos of the show. And they aren't too happy with him.
Since he is still under contract with the show, they might take legal action against him.
Seriously, you're an actor for crying out loud. You're not a writer. This is your job!

Well..first I must say that I am all for equality, and all that good shit. My mother was lesbian for many many years, and I am bi and my brother is bi, so I am DEFINITELY all for gays & lesbians, however, I do believe still that EVERYONE born in this country has a right to do what they want to do or NOT do what they want to do. Yes, he may not be very open-minded, and he may actually be a little homophobic and he's not willing to kiss a male co-star for WHATEVER reason. It's his prerogative. Just because he's an actor does not mean he should compromise his own personal beliefs/morals just for the sake of television or his job or to make anyone happy. Not everyone thinks like you, Perez, and you should really rethink yours a little bit.

Perez everyone has a right to say no to things they do not want to do it would be like forceing someone to pretend they are not gay. that is the kind of thing that has to be disclosed in the audition. there are plenty of break downs that actors pass on and don't audition for many reasons. that is a choice all actors can make. or anyone for that matter… if you get hired for a job and the description of the job changes and it isn't what you signed on for you can quit.
we audition in good faith.. and of course when u accept a job.. you create within the boundaries set for you. that holds true… if he KNEW at the audition he was going to play a gay character. he might feel playing one will ruin his career because he won't be believable and appear to be talentless. every actor has limits (besides streep) i wouldn't audition for a scottish character because i can not master the accent. however if i were playing irish and they switched me to scottish… oooooh they better hire me a dialect coach… perhaps this kid just needs u to coach him on gay! get in there offer your services. try and be of help for once

I have rarely seen so much failure to understand the issue in a comments section. Refusing to kiss another man isn't what makes him a homophobe. Straight guys do not have to kiss other men to prove they are healthy! The issue here though is that the guy's an actor, and for him to quit his job in this bad economy because he's afraid to do a role like many many straight men before him have done (Jake G, Heath Ledger, etc.), then he has issues. If I was making loads of money and getting national exposure as part of an acting career, I'd have no problem kissing someone I wasn't attracted to. From the pictures, he looks like a very conceited and bitchy gay male and is probably afraid the camera will hit too close to home. Stick a fork in him.
