We mentioned yesterday about the douchebag actor on the Young and the Restless who refused to do a man-on-man kiss. He thought the shift was uncharacteristic and he held meetings with the heads of the program to get it changed.
When they didn't, Chris Engen up and quit.

It's his choice to quit if he doesn't want to do a gay scene, I don't really see why he would quit over a kiss, especially since he's an actor and they are paid to act out things that aren't real, but still his choice.
Y&R hasn't really given a reason why he quit, but they replaced him in a nanosecond, which points to the probability that Engen and the show were not seeing eye to eye for a while.
I don't know how smart it is to leave the number one rated soap, but I wish him luck.

That he didn't want to kiss another man, himself, does not necessarily imply that he hates homosexuals. Without more information, I personally could not judge the man based on what I know of this situation. Yes, I hope for a day when there is true equality, and where people don't act based on hate. However, my hating this man would be no different from him hating someone else. Hate is hate. It's important that we not be hipocrites when throwing stones.

The shift in the character is uncharacteristic and they writers are just trying to bring in ratings like every other struggling soap. Maybe if you watched the show Perez instead of just talking shit about the actor and other people you'd know that this is coming out of left field.

Okay, he should have stuck with the job. BUT a genuinely heterosexual man who has apparently no conflicted feelings, becoming gay out of the blue IS uncharacteristic. That being said stranger things happen to characters on soap. They get possessed, become kidnapping psychos, etc. So he was scared to kiss men, that doesn't mean he is a gay bashing homophobe, it just means he hates kissing dudes, I don't think you slandering him for being grossed out by kissing guys is fair, AT ALL. Actors walk away from parts that they are not comfortable with all the time. Some women walk off a picture because they're asked to do nudity. Others, like Dakota Fanning, don't want to do a role that requires a shaved head or other physical demand. So what? Why is this guy now a homophobe for exercising the same choice over his role?!? Ben Stiller signs on for another fart comedy, the director hands him a script for a military thriller… that's not only not the part he signed on for, but a breech of contract. Let me give you a little background on his character, Adam Wilson.
When he first came on the show, he had a little crush on his brother's wife Phylis, and then he met Heather and they've had many scenes where they're having sex! He showed NO indication of being a homosexual and suddenly they're going to change him? Up until this week even, he's been obviously straight!
He probably quit because he's a GOOD actor (For a soap opera at least) and thinks it's a terrible story line.
It's Y&R's desperation for a gay character that did it. I'm disappointed to see such a good actor being let go.

As a gay man and an avid fan of Y&R, I am in total opposition to your claim that Chris Engen is a homophobe. That is utterly ridiculous! If you were to do your research, you would know that the character Chris Engen plays (Adam Wilson AKA Victor Newman, Jr.) has been straight throughout his appearance the show. As a matter of fact, his character has been sleeping with the same girl throughout his stint on the show. It makes absolutely no sense that the writers of this show would now try to make his character gay. That is not an accurate representation of how we as homosexuals come to be gay. As a matter of fact, it further leads the general public to believe that we are choosing to be gay and that we can turn it on and off like a light switch. At least for me and probably the vast majority of homosexuals, being gay is something that I have been since birth or at least as young as I can remember having feelings of attraction toward another person in a sexual manner. I am all for having a gay couple on Y&R, but for God's sake have them come on the show as gay, not being straight at one time and then deciding to become gay. I applaud Chris for having the balls to stand up against the show for what is right for his character even if it means losing his job. Re: **Me**Luv**Gaga** – but they have the right not to do it and not be called a hetereophobe. if it is uncomfortable and nauseating for a gay man or woman to kiss a member of the opposite sex, then don't do it. but don't do it then be passive aggressive when a strait person doesn't want to kiss a member of the same sex. the level of anger that perez spewed out and you have spewed out does not seem to logically relate to the situation at hand. nothing that egregious, in fact, nothing egregious at all, seems to have taken place. maybe you're angry because you felt like you had to kiss a member of the opposite sex once, or maybe you're angry at the mistreatment you've received in your life for simply being who you are. and that is totally valid and you have a right to be angry. but it doesn't seem rational or reasonable to be so angry because somebody chooses not to kiss a member of the same sex. that is a perfectly reasonable choice for any individual to make and i think both you and perez are displacing your anger, and in effect, actually hurting the cause for gay equality and gay rights by unnecessarily alienating people.
