The 1986 sci fi adventure, Flight of the Navigator, is set for a remake!

The film, which will be penned by Wild Hogs and Arrested Development alum Brad Copeland, tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft and reappears eight years later not phased by time and with no memory of what happened. When NASA scientists discovers the spacecraft and the boy's origins, they try to exploit him. All the while, he attempts to escape and reunite with his family.

Flight only grossed $17 million during its initial release but became a cult hit when released on now-extinct VHS.

We can't wait!

  2. 2

AHHH!! Leave our 80's movies alone! It was great the first time.

  3. 3

this was one of my favs as a kid. they don't need to remake this! though i'm sure they'll do much more with visual effects now.

  4. 4

This is an absolute classic..please leave it alone. God I had an absolute crush on Joey Cramer in this..also don't forget SJP was in this too with her purple hair!

  5. 5

why does that alien have Nadia Suleman's lips?

  6. 6

I seem to have supressed memories of being absolutely terrified of this movie when it came out lol

  7. 7

    i have this movie bitches!

  8. 8

I LOVE that movie! I don't know if I want them to remake it… Will PEE-WEE HERMAN still do the voice of the spaceship creature thingy (Max)? My 6-year-old kids love the 80's version already!

IM SOOO HAPPY this is being remade.. ive been thinkin about it for the last month, about what it was called… granted i was only 1 when it came out, but i loved this movie, i used to watch over and over.. along with land before time… haha.

  10. 10

Awesome. I loved this movie as a kid. Hope that don't screw up this classic

  11. 11

    SHHHHUUUUUTTTT UP!!!

    my flipping favorite movie…. ahhhhhhhhh

  12. 12

I LOVED this movie!!! Why are they making a re-make? All they do now is re-makes. How ’bout an original script and leave the originals as they are.

  13. 13

Ugh. Why must they always mess with the good ones. Next thing we know they'll be remaking Goonies or something. If they're going to redo it, could they at least update the CGI while leaving the innocent quality of the film?

  14. 14

That movie was awesome, oh Hollywood please don't ruin it. Don't they make original movies anymore.

  15. 15

I love love LOVE this movie. Brings back childhood memories. "Max" was the best… "COMPLIANCE!" And twisted-sister loving 80's SJP is the best in this. I wish they would leave the classics alone though, u cant beat the originals!

  16. 16

Nooooo!!! I love this movie. They're just going to f*** it up!!!

  17. 17

    HU? NEVER SEEN IT.

Can we please have original content for once, stop with the remakes and reinventing undead franchises. Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator or whatever. After about 20 years any long running franchise just gets stale. Especiall something like Star Wars which debuted when people still had pet rocks, listened to disco on their 8 tracks while driving their AMC pacer.

This is a perfect analogy of that what Hollywood is doing…. reinventing the PACER.

I am really dreading the possibility that they might remake STAR WARS, but Lucas is kind of doing that by photo shopping the originals to death.

    omfg

  20. 20

I love Flight - I hope they don't screw this one up!!

  21. 21

I am getting sick of them remaking classics because no one can think of anything original. Maybe they should stop making movies then.

And you KNOW someday, maybe not in my lifetime, they ARE going to redo 'The Wizard of Oz'. That will be the worst thing ever.

  22. 22

Does anybody know who is casting this? I would love for my son to audition

  23. 23

Flight of the Navigator is fucking awesome!!! One of my all time fav movies as a child.
Hope they don't screw up the remake.

  24. 24

WTF is wrong with Hollywood? Every movie I loved from my childhood has been redone…why can they not come up with an original thought. What next the remake of The Dark Crystal or Midnight Madness? Fuck hollywood I'm going to write them a movie they can make that hasn't been done before!!

This movie was flippin amazing. I wish they wouldn't touch it!

  26. 26

one of my all time favorite movies….the remake is gonna be uber-dramatic and lose it's original charm

    27

No… NOOOOOOO… leave good things alone. They're usually destroyed when remade. Don't ruin my childhood further!

  28. 28

NO!!! They'll most likely ruin it!!

  29. 29

Love that movie, watched it just a couple weeks ago on ('VHS)! Always been in my collection of favorites. Don't know where their going to go with a remake, but who knows? Reminds me of another old classic 'The Last Starfighter; about a teenager growing up in a trailer-park, wasting away the evenings playing the only arcade game in the park (The Last Starfighter). Then one night whilst distracted and feeling sorry for himself thinking he'd never break out of that crummy place, playing the game and moaning and groaning to his younger brother, they both realize he's scoring higher than anyone has ever scored before. A couple more points, and he beats the machine. What he didn't know; was that the machine had been put there by aliens, trying to find/train/inlist anyone in the universe who might be able to fight evil forces in distant worlds to save the universe. To be a "REAL STARFIGHTER". The late great Robert Preston is gone, but they might find someone who could do the role justice? Just a thought…

  30. 30

Just like Hollywood…to take a classic movie and most likely ruin it just because they're running out of ideas.

BTW, vhs is hardly dead. Stop by some yard sale or a family-owned shop some time Perez. Oh wait, i forget that you probably too good for places like that with you're snobbish arrogance and all like every celeb err…*cough* *cough* symbol of a cultural wasteland.

This was my movie! Didn't everyone want to have a silver nut ufo like that? Going to Tokyo and scaring the crap out of punk teens in a convertible when asking for directions… the greatest.

  32. 32

Surprised it was not more of a hit on its initial release…this should be a huge hit if they cast it correctly …it is an awesome story…and the special effects of the original are surprisingly cool…for 1986 technology..

  33. 33

Oh man..come on, leave it alone! Unless your getting Pee Wee to voice it and you bring back the original kid in a cameo…you know what, no, just leave it alone :(

  34. 34

motherfucker!!!!! why can't they leave these great movies alone!!!!!!!!!!!! apparently there are no writers with original skills anymore. really bums me out.

  35. 35

I cant believe so many people love this movie lol. I've always hated it. Its so stupid! Although, I do get a kick out of teenage Sarah Jessica Parker in it lol.

  36. 36

    i loved this one! :)

  37. 37

    this makes me incredibly happy.

  38. 38

Re: MusingLen – Oh yeah, if they ever touch Goonies I will be mega pissed. Flight of the Navigator DOES NOT need to be redone. Re-relaese with updated CGI like they did with ET, sure; remake the movie, no. So disappointed.

  39. 39

I frickin' LOVED this movie as a kid. It was my top favorite movie for a long time, and it's still in the top three, not for quality, but for sentimental value. I hope they don't butcher it by using some kid like Jayden Smith. :-/

That kid's a little too snobby for my tastes.

    P.S.
I killed my feet at the Supreme Court/Prop 8 protest yesterday here in Long Beach.

Best 2 hours of my life.

  40. 40

That is too friggen awesome!!!!! I can barely control my excitement! That movie just reminds me of my childhood….. AWESOME!!

  41. 41

    Nooo! I love this movie!

  42. 42

Damn Hollywood. COME UP WITH SOMETHING ORIGINAL FOR ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. 43

YAAAYYYYY!!! SO AWESOME!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!

  44. 44

    Stop destroying my childhood Hollywood!

  45. 45

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK NO!! It's the best movie ever. NO

  46. 46

DAMN just another one that was done perfect the first time. Member SJPeepee in it? They need to just re release the old one on DVD for us 80s kids. Get some new ideas and STOP ruining our classics!!

  47. 47

i freakin LOVE this movie!! and i think a remake will deff not be close to as good. hope they get the cast right and dont distroy a classic
