Prop 8 Reactions: Married Star Trek Alum On Marriage And H8

George Takei, who wed longtime partner Brad Altman last September, is extremely dissatisfied with the Supreme Court's decision to uphold Prop 8 on Tuesday..
"They decided to be indecisive," says Takei. "It was a ruling that doesn't resolve anything because there is still inequality. It's like [George Orwell's Animal Farm] — some pigs are more equal than other pigs. We're more equal than some of the other gays and lesbians."
The Court even changed sides on the issue!
"This Supreme Court, which only 12 months ago — last year in May — ruled that it is a fundamental constitutional right that marriage equality extend to gays and lesbians, did a flip-flop. This so-called ruling by the California Supreme Court will ultimately be condemned by history," he continued.
Although happy that his marriage has maintained its legality, Takei will continue to fight until the vote is changed!

The Consitution of the United States clearly says that the majority can not legally take away civil rights of the minority. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled in Loving v. Virginia that marriage is a FUNAMENTAL CIVIL RIGHT!
So we now have the opinion of a spare part on a television show from the 1960s (over 40 years ago). So?

People have the right to change the Constitution. What Gays want is not equal rights, they want to redefine marriage to accomidate their sexual prefernces.
I think the militant gay /Hollywood approach to this is alienating a lot of moderate Americans. Most Americans either don't care about gay marriage or are opposed for religious reasons. To win the gay rights advocates have to stop offending people to the point they actually do care– and don't want it.
California voted and they didn't want equality for ALL. A couple of judges are not going to change that for fear of MASSIVE back lash. COME ON NOW!! Just like America didn't want a gay IDOL.

I support gay rights and was shocked by the November vote. However, it would be ridiculous for CA to overturn the vote. Totally unconstitutional! I think we should all be thankful we live in a country where one CAN be gay in public. That is not the case for much of the world. Full, equal rights are coming. And they should be implemented in a constitutional way.

The problem is that it was a referendum. No court will overturn a statewide referendum UNLESS that referendum is in direct violation of the United States Constitution which (as yet) does not make that provision. Did you really think the court would or could? The best thing gays could do in California is a) move out of California to New England and take their money with them, b) move out of California to New England and take their money with them, or c) move out of California to New England and take their money with them.

Before there was organized government there were religious ceremonies that united two people (or 3 or 4, etc) in "Holy Matrimony". If you allow the government to define and "own" marriage then you are basically saying that our First Amendment rights to "free exercise" of religion is crap. Judges should not legislate from the bench. Their ruling was today was correct. The people voted, whoever doesn't agree with the outcome needs to get another question about gay marriage on the ballot.
