Guy To Work With Dolls

Filed under: Anglophilia > Film Flickers > Guy Ritchie

gdolls.jpg

Get ready for another remake, this time with gangster cinema director and former Mr. Madonna, Guy Ritchie at the wheel.

And he is feeling musical!

Guy is reportedly in Hollywood working on a script for a remake of Guys and Dolls. Sources say the idea of the film "tickled him" and he has already contacted Jason Statham to be involved.

Details are still unknown, but it is speculated that the Englishman will move the film locale to more familiar settings: "He is torn between keeping the script true to the original in New York and taking it to familiar surroundings in London."

It'll be hard to watch without Sinatra or Brando, but perhaps the change in city might make it easier.

We think it has potential.

What do U think?

i was in this play in college!!! love it, it's sooo much fun!!! not sure how i feel about it being a movie, though. and as much as i am MADLY in love with jason statham, i couldn't imagine how he would be good for any of the roles.

Why the hell would you take Damon Runyon's characters and setting and put them in London or anywhere that's not New York?! He must be insane!

Reserving judgement unless they try to touch Singin' in the Rain!
    They are getting too close.

Great songs but a verrrrrry long musical.

  12. 12

I think the Sinatra/Brando movie is a classic, and should be left alone. But God knows no one has any new ideas in Hollywood.

  17. 17

I heart guys and dolls. Like most people that will post, I was in it in high school. Some of the best musical songs ever!

  18. 18

If they fuck this movie up I am going to be sooo beyond pissed. It better be fucking amazing.

  19. 19

This is one classic that shouldn't be touched- it couldn't be improved by the likes of modern day Hollywood. Marlon Brando is Sky Masterson and Frank is Nathan Detroit- always- it's perfection, they couldn't make it any better

  20. 20

I have a feeling he's going to destroy it…. can he come up with an original idea anyways?

  21. 21

um no! this is a classic and you should not remake it! it will NEVER be good enough! btw does anyone think that robert pattinson resembles the young marlon brando??

  22. 22

    Only if he cast Madonna.

  23. 23

great idea but lazy choice for jason Stathom in the film. YES he can play Brando's part but singing? no. Statham is Guy RITchie's best friends. so easy choice. Hugh Jackman should be in it. HUgh jacksman, kevin SPacey, James Marsden. for girls. anne hathaway, emme Rossom

  24. 24

    oh and course AMy adams

  25. 25

yay guy! now that the hags gone you can do what you do best!!! and… i lurve jason statham! *slurp*

  26. 26

Jason Statham in a musical? WTF!

  27. 27

uh… shouldn't we leave this sort of material to baz luhrmann?
    i smell a disaster coming.
    jussayin

  28. 28

This makes me nervous. If he fucks up my favorite musical, i'll be pissed.

    London? No, Ritchie. Think again.

  29. 29

Guy Ritchie must be the most relieved man in the world to be rid of that crazy selfish ballbuster. OK, maybe he shres the title with Paul McCartney….

  30. 30

    Noooooo!!! Leave it alone!

  31. 31

I'm glad he waited until after he got rid of the hag/whore wife before he joined this project……she would have forced him to let her worthless, roided up ass star in it!

  32. 32

Re: mynameis? – then it would definitely fail….at least if her acting abililities (I can't even type that without laughing) have nothing to do with the film, it stands a chance or success…..at least her stink won't be on it!

  33. 33

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN!!!! LOL
