More than 60 people staged a sit-in at the San Diego County clerk's office on Wednesday "in support of Michael and Brian, a couple who have twice been denied today a marriage license."
One of the protesters reached out to The Advocate, reporting that even though authorities threatened to arrest the group, they only escorted them outside of the building.
The protesters, however, had been prepared to be arrested, and as they sat they sang songs and exchanged Stonewall recollections.
As the protesters emerged from the building escorted by police, they were greeted with cheers.
Big ups to them!
Civil disobedience doesn't happen without the DISOBEDIENCE.

As I've always said, this is the next major movement following the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. It took African Americans over 100 years to achieve equal rights, even though they endured years of violence, tension, and outright murder. They staged sit-ins as well, which everyone dismissed and never paid too much attention to, but it was the beginning of the inevitable. THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF THE INEVITABLE. It is time for equal rights for all.

They did nothing to educate anyone and the office was following the law. They walked out to cheers - which could mean TWO. Very few young people were there - that's because they KNOW it's not the time to go overboard and dramatic with "singing sit ins", and instead use EDUCATION as their weapon of choice - not hatred, fighting intolerance with intolerance and general bullying. It only makes people push back harder. Where's the news stories where kids on the street were handing out INFO pamphlets. That's right, they weren't IN YOUR FACE and were helping change people's minds properly. Not whining like a child when you don't get your way.

1) There is more news about the fight for gay rights than celebrity news, Perez. It's an important fight, but really? Your tagline is celebrity juice, not gay rights juice.
2) The sit in was stupid in itself if there goal was to get the couple a marriage liscence. They CAN'T GET the couple a marriage license in California. It's not legal! They should have held the protest somewhere else. There's nothing the county clerk could have done for them.

i hope to see more and more of this kind of nonviolent civil disobedience rather than protests and parades that just make the issue look silly. standing up and making these kind of statements are saying we won't stand for injustice no matter what the intolerant majority has said. i would do this for any of my gay friends who are being refused marriage rights. equal rights for all!!
