Billy Bob's Ex-Wife Compares Daughter's Child Neglect To Natasha Richardson's Accident!

Billy Bob Thornton's ex-wife is comparing the death of the 1-year-old her daughter was babysitting to the accident that took the life of Natasha Richardson earlier this year.

Melissa Gatlin doesn't believe her daughter should be charged with child neglect because there was no way she could have known the child was injured.

Thornton's daughter, Amanda Brumfield, witnessed the baby fall from her playpen and hit her head, but she made the unfortunate decision to not call 911 because there were "no signs of distress."

Brumfield reportedly noticed that the young child's tongue was bleeding, but thought nothing of it because she was "happy and playful."

Major mistake!

Amanda took a nap and when she awoke, the child's body was limp. The baby had passed away due to a subdural hematoma.

Gatlin compared the tragic incident to the late Natasha Richardson's skiing accident earlier this year, explaining, "When you have a situation that does not indicate distress… There are no signs of distress, then there is no reason to immediately call police."

Here's the major difference: Richardson refused medical treatment, which a one-year-old doesn't have the capability of doing.

It was Thornton's daughter's responsibility - as the babysitter - for the child's well being!

What do U think??

Do you believe Brumfield should be held responsible?

Re: elizabeth84 – Thank you for that. This is what I learned also and that is how I know that this woman purposely did something to this child which caused the baby's death.

Kids bump their heads all the time. if I called 911 every time my daughter hurt herself, they would block my number. They can even have accidents when you're watching them; two days ago i was a foot away from my daughter's crib when she made a flying leap off the side and hit the floor on her neck. These things happen. This particular incident sounds like a freak accident.

the daughter's "nap" seems a little too convenient for my taste. the chick fucked up and is trying to cover her ass. pathetic. put her in jail.

if the kid really was laughing and playing like everything was ok, the NO, i don't think she should be held responsible. its just a terrible, horrible tragedy.

Re: Snuggies keep me snug and happy
First of all, everyone on this forum is privy to post-accident information i.e. fractured skull, and passing judgement based on a fact that neither sitter, or parent could have known.

My son has fallen and bit his tongue…and therefore was bleeding from his tongue. Why do we assume the worst and ascertain that it must have been spewing out the little one's mouth and this neglectful monster did nothing?!

I agree that she should not have slept, this is indeed neglectful, however, there is no way anyone save a medical professional could have known the child had a fracture. Also, it is a given that the little girl cried! What moron would think she didn't?! She obviously hurt herself, but again, these situations are judgement calls…she settled down and seemed fine. The point made about the age of sitter is poignant: Expecting children to make adult decisions…likely not the wisest choice on the part of all of us parents who've had a young teen watch our children. It is an accident that has really made me think about the choices I've made concerning who watches my child. Being an adult and having those "maternal" instincts concerning my child, might I have done something different? Perhaps, but I cannot say for certain, so I cannot, nor have right to judge.

I think she is retarded for going taking a fucking nap. what kind of shit is that?!?!?!?!!?!?!!??!!!?!?!!!!?! But she didnt know the baby was injured. Had she known she would have done something about it obv. I think she should get something for taking a nap on the job. The idea of babysitting is that you are there to watch the child so shit like this doesnt happen. Had she been awake, she might have noticed the baby acting strangely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Signs of brain injury aren't always apparent right after the accident. I don't think she should be charged with anything. Even the best medical professionals could have missed the signs. Terrible accident.
