Bill Gates, The Billionaire Man's Role Model?
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is quite the noble guy!
Gates, who is the world's richest man, had a few words of advice for the wealthy folks of this world at a recent public debate.
Said Gates: "I think all billionaires should give away the vast majority of their fortune. I'm not saying they shouldn't leave anything for their kids or to have a little bit for themselves but yes, I think they would enjoy it, I think their kids would be better off, and I think the world would be better off."
Bravo!
Gates has donated a large chunk of his $40 billion fortune to various organizations over the years to "fight poverty and disease."
If only more people shared his mindset, this world would truly be a better place.
Doubt many other billionaires will follow suit, though!

First? Gates is full of SHIT!! He did NOT feel this way before he got married. He was selfish and stingy. He always said he wouldn't give a dime to his kids BUT he also refused to give any $$$ to charity !! His wife is the social activist and the charity goes through her.

Through his philanthropy now, I believe Bill Gates is attempting to atone for all of the evil he has done to the world. I DON'T mean here that Windows is bad/evil/whatever. I am referring to Bill Gates himself. He has always been completely ruthless in his business dealing, taking great pleasure in having "infinite greed" and putting competitors out of business. He has purposefully stifled software innovation with his "embrace, extend,extinguish" philosophy. He has blackmailed all of the PC makers into charging their customers for Windows whether or not Windows is actually installed (e.g. if someone buys a PC with Linux). Bill Gates is a perfect example of the parable that it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven, but he's still trying his damnest to see if he can buy his way in after all.

And without him, computing technology would not be as advanced as it is. I do think he has stifled competition to a certain extent, but that doesn't undo all the good he has done. People exaggerate about his stifling of competition. Bill Gates is a smart, innovative guy and I don't get why some people hate him so much!

You're wrong, Perez. In this country, at least, the wealthy, give a larger PERCENTAGE of their income to charity than any other group. That's why Congress is so against taking away the tax reduction for charitable contributions for the wealthy. Because they're the biggest givers.
Also, conservatives, at all income levels, give more to charity than liberals. Ironic, isn't it, since the liberals supposedly care so much about the poor.
People are more than their past and even the best of us have done and said things we are not proud of and have moved forward to be a better person. Like him or not millions benefit from his money and foundation and in the end that's what counts.

Bill Gates was definitely accused of exercising a monopoly a few times.

However, Microsoft products are some of the greatest inventions of our generation. He built his empire from ground up and shares his tremendous wealth in ways that many others should be duplicating.
He is right.
There is nothing you can't buy or do with $100 billion that you couldn't with $1 billion.

Like in the dry western states where water has to be brought in to support the population. Or in any city where stuff has to be brought in to support the population in the city. If it is wrong for Bill to enable overpopulation in the third world, then it is also wrong to provide water an food to people in LA and other US cities. You sound like a typical spoiled rich brat who thinks that poor people outside the US should live how you want, while you keep living a relatively good life here. Bill Gates is a good guy. I know him and he has done a lot to help people all over the world.

I stand by my points-
-instead of simply feeding all these 3rd world babies, how about spending some of that $$$ to teach them about birth control, so there aren't as many hungry mouths to feed to begin with
-Gates has monopolized the software industry with brutal business methods. The result is unstable, virus prone operating systems that are practically forced upon the consumer. Microsoft would snuff out any competition building better product(s). I did my computer science thesis on this subject fyi.

i think he's probably found something that actually makes him happier than any amount of money ever could. I would never put down someone who is giving their time, energy, and money to help others. most of us with nothing else to do still don't do anything that benefits anyone other than ourselves. he stepped down as ceo of microsoft to spend more time working on his charity foundation. that's pretty big and obviously probably not something that he did because his wife wanted him to.
However his fortunes was obtained is irrelevant now, he is currently doing so much for others. He paid for both my kids college education, no other rich person in this world would have done that. He is fantastic! I love Bill!!!!!!!

Hey Bill, I could use some serious bailout money. My firm just "downsized" and with some good cash backing me up I could start my own company and hire my other co-workers that got "downsized".
Even though I'm not a huge fan, Brad and Angelina have given a heck of a lot of cash to charity and weren't afraid to go "get their hands dirty" by helping in person.
